How was Lake Louisa when you were there a few weeks ago?
Where about did you stay (if you do not mind me asking)?
Are the Island sites on the West end decent? I heard that some Northern sites on the main land from the Islands are nice? Someone told me a huge rock table was set up a one campsite.
I'm going to be on Louisa next week and was going to camp my first few days on the West end for some day loop side trips. My last few nights I will go back near the portage to Rock Lake for a easy exit.
This is my first Algonquin canoe trip this year, so I am very excited, more then ever to go.
I'll be visiting Sean and his family at Pog before my trip in. Mr. Sean is joing me for the first night and then taking off to make a loop back to Pog Lake.
We changed our reservation at the last minute and merely stayed at Welcome. That said, I know Louisa well enough.
We always stay on the western island (the one closest to the portage that takes you to Lawrence). That is the one with the stone table and it is a very nice site. I do have a trip report from a few years ago... there are some shots with the views from thathttp://www.outdooradventurecanada.com/triplogs/louisa2006.htm (warning - don't look if you don't want spoilers - it's a little photo heavy).
Many of the island sites are nice as are many of the shore sites. Nice sized lakes - lots of sites.
Mike I know this message is for Laurie, but I would like to add my two cents worth.
Having traveled thru Louisa for the past two years we have stayed at the last site on the southwest both times. This site is situated at a point. The northend of the site is smooth rock that is low to the water, great for pulling out you canoe and to watch the fantastic Algonquin sunsets! The west end of the site has a rock cliff, awesome for lounging in the afternoon sun and great for jumping off into the lake. The firepit area has large, squared off timbers for comfortable seating.
Lake Louisa is a beautiful lake and I know you'll enjoy yourself regardless the site you choose.
Have fun!

That's like what happened to us Mike... you'll see pictures here...
I don't know why people are intimidated by the portages into Sunbeam... it wasn't all that bad. No wait, it was horrible, all uphill and really steep, brutally rough portages! Don't go there - lol.

Bitten by the hammock bug
August 21 2009, 8:46 AM
Hey, Mike
I would have to agree that Markus' picture shows ample hammock-hanging opportunities. What brand of hammock do you have? My buddies each bought ENO nylon hammocks for our recent trip, and spent at least an hour each day napping in them. Even though we all had air mattresses to sleep on, it was agreed that spending the night in a hammock would be an even better option. Now we're looking into hammocks with mosquito netting and rain flys.
Sorry to hijack this thread and send it in another direction. I, too, have stayed on Sunbeam a few times and found it to be a beautiful lake.

I am so jealous - you'll have to let me know how you like the hammock.
Will do Laurie...will take pics to post as well.
I am a belly sleeper...so, will see what happens...
I might have to sleep under my canoe!

And if you pick the right time of the year it
will offer cool temperatures
Not sure these photos will help
Same site looking from land out to the lake in early May
P.S. Watch the footing when walking to the canoe or
you end up in the brink when there snow on the ground
And a photo of fire pit area with tarps installed for inclement weather!
