Your Best Meal

I'm looking for some inspiration! I seem to do the same meal plan over and over again. Steak and roasted potatos first night, pita pizza the 2nd night then into the boring dried noodles etc.

My wife and I are heading out again in sept for a 6 day trip and I was hoping to surprise her with a new meal plan. Spice it up a bit if you know what I mean. So I thought what better then to use your best meal suggestions.

So any help out there would be great. (I may need instruction or what you put in if it's not evident)

Here's my wifes fav.

that's your ticket to good meals happy.gif

I think her outdooradventurescanada site has some recipes, particularly in the forums, and of course there is her book too which is found at MEC, chapters, probably other places too.

i have to admit i'm a pretty drab meal planner, and my girlfriend does not appreciate it. interested in hearing some new ideas, too

Hi Bryce... thanks (I could tell someone was talking about me... my ears were itching) actually the recipes are at my newer sites www.wildernesscooking.com and www.aforkinthetrail.com. I totally love cooking and sometimes I think we eat better in the backcountry than we do at home.

Best meal? You mean I have to choose just one? Yikes... can't do it.

Here are some favs though...

Pizza

We hate to have to lug a cooler now but we as well as if we had. I dry many of our foods prior to the trip (can even do this 6 months before) and then a lot of the time I merely have to rehydrate the meal at camp. Makes the camp end of things much easier. Of course, I love to bake and the Outback Oven is my favorite piece of gear.

If you want to try this and if you are new to food dehydration... here is a primer that I wrote for the Washington Trails Association's magazine (complete with photos) and it also has a few recipes...

and (sorry for the multiple posts - I'm bad when you get me chatting about food)... if she likes chocolate....... these fry brownines are simple and amazing and they have an Algonquin connection... first time I had them was when the author and her family came up from Georgia to do a 7 day trip in the Barron Canyon area with us... we were camped across from the cascades on the Barron River... it was miserable and raining... and Christine walked over with a steaming plate of these (what a way to lift everyone's spirits!)

Barry is going to clobber me... lol (and I probably deserve it). I have some recipes in my blog toohttp://www.wildernesscooking.com/blog/?cat=4 including one for pulled pork. When I get a chance (probably early this coming week) I'll post a few recipes here too.

I keep it simple, dried potatoes with spices and cut up pepperettes or fresh fish, pita bread with peanut butter and jam, hard boiled eggs, frozen vegetables, dried fruits, nuts, granola bars, oatmeal and cheeze.

Laurie Ann thanks for the imput. I'll search the links you provided. Any other info you can ad will be great. I'm sure goning to try that crab dip one. Looks awesome. Isn't it funny how good we can eat on a canoe trip, the rest of the world has no idea. Sometimes I think it's the hard work during the day that makes the food taste soooo good.

Anything that goes with a side of
French Fries or for that matter Poutine
Once one portages in the makings for FF
the upgrade to poutine is hardly anything extra
