Astronomy weekend at Mew Lake

from IP address 70.29.30.86

Hi everyone,

Just a reminder of the Algonquin Star Party at Mew Lake Sept. 19-20.
If you're in the park just head to the public beach at dusk. That's where we set up the telescopes.
I'm camping at Mew (87).
Raccoon, I know you'll be at LOTR (88). I'll try and drop by.

Hope to see some of you there.

Clear skies,
Stainless

We likely will not be at 88 LOTR much as others with
us need to be exposed to some trails and museums
in the HWY 60 area

so
we'll plan to drop by and see you at 87 MEWS

But if you are in the area you can always take a chance
as the brewski's or white wine likely will be handy happy.gif

Astronomy report

September 21 2009, 9:39 AM

The weather was perfect for the weekend of astronomy at Mew Lake.
Sunny cloudless days followed by clear dark nights.
I saw some deep sky objects that I had never seen before and I revisited some of my favourite
objects that always look impressive.

Here are a few pics.

Mews Lake star gazing

September 21 2009, 9:02 PM

Hi Stainless

I am sure I saw all 3000 stars that can be seen by the naked eye
at Mews that night. Also aided by some monsterly large telescopes
we saw cluster in the milky way ( it had oddles of stars) as well
as the rings of Jupiter

We saw the Space shuttle pass and those green lasers were not a must but certainly made it easier happy.gif

But those green lasers are neato for pointing out the small
dipper. Yes we could find the North star!! but even thoug it is part
of the LD.. it sure is hard to locate until somebody green lasered it happy.gif

As for meeting Stainless sad.gif

We went to the Bear talk at 7 ( daylight still) and I figured
that since the talk was susposed to be about a half hour that we
would arrive at Mews and be able to locate you.
What a mistake that was sad.gif... Left VC at 7:45 and it was dark!
By the time we swung by our campsite and then went directly to
Mews Lake, It was pitch Black and only with aid of flashlight did we find entrance to beach ( greeted by TURN OFF THE WHITE LIGHT happy.gif )

Anyways, lots of folks knew Mark Steele but could say for sure
if you were on the beach. I had forgotten you site number sad.gif
so this time our bows crossed in the night and it was too
dark to see each other!

Man oh Man... The viewing was better than the weather and the weather was EXCELLENT

Good luck with planned two mini reunions. Wish I could attend one
but I am elsewhere thaose dates. A later colder trip
may still be a possibility for Racoon/Marguerite with Markus/Joan ( ice/snow permitting happy.gif )

Hey Racoon,

You should have just yelled out "Hey Stainless! It's Racoon!"
Although it still might have been difficult to meet up because, as you said, it's pitch black. And no white flashlights,... or else happy.gif

I drove aimlessly through LOTR on my way out Sunday - I had forgotten your campsite number.

Clear skies,
Stainless
