Hopefully this is the last thread we'll need to start for our fall AA get together.
We'll aim for the cluster of campsites on Galeairy just east of the dam at Rock Lake.
Access can be made at Rock Lake (or in Whitney).
Everyone is welcome.

If I do come it will be solo. Agnes has baby shower to attend to..... I never understand how you can give a shower to something that has not been born yet lol

Hey guys, I don't know if I'll be attending. I think I am going to watch the weather. Since the end of September it's been nothing but rain and windy conditions. Hopefully, there we'll be some nice weather as I would like to get some end of the season camping in as this year has been a bit of a bust!
I would like to meet up with you guys again soon.
Come on sun........your past due!

Galeairy Gathering
October 10 2009, 10:14 AM
Hey Gang,
I regret to say I am not going to make the gathering next weekend. It is just too far for us to drive and too late in the season. I think we are going to spend a few days on the Shenandoah River. I hope you all have a good time and will really miss seeing everybody this year.

Too bad Kermit. Next year we'll plan for a mid-Sept. get together.
I can't wait to see the Tamaracks and Largetooth Aspens at their yellow and gold best.
The weekend forecast is for sunshine but quite cool conditions. So as Lord Baden Powell said, "Be prepared."

Everyone still going, temps are are looking a little cold! not sure that we are equipped for those temps and are second guessing it.
I bought a new spring/fall sleeping bag after our Craig Lake trip.- A MEC Habanero -7.
I've used it a couple of times so far and it's much warmer than my old MEC Nighthawk 0.
I'm still going. Lot's of sun during the day! We'll get a Guncho fire going for sure!
Our site will be more protected than Craig Lake site.
I think we should make sure we bring winter clothes as opposed to just layering up with all our regular stuff.
J-Wolf, you should probably put a Thermarest in your hammock. Meet at noon? I'll bring an extra life jacket and paddle.

I will there just not 100% sure whether it will be friday night or saturday morning (work depending). Also I might be in a canoe red, small, beat up canoe hehe.
J-wolf.... if this is your first time "late season -10deg" sleeping in a hammock make sure you have a pad, lots of clothing and a very good cold sleeping bag to boot. I know for sure I will not be in a hammock, been there done that and this time of the year it is waaaaaaaaaaaay too cold without the bottom insulation.

Off to MEC on Thursday and pick up new bags(hope they have stock) then off to the park on Fri.
See you there.
There is a MEC in Burlington(I'm assuming you were going to the Toronto location), also check online to get an idea of the stock availability of the item you are looking for, it lists them by location.
Good Luck!

Hey Markus, does this mean you're not going? Scared of the cold? Just kidding. Hopefully somehow you can make it. I'll top up my flask just in case.

Hey Paddlin,
Sadly I cannot go. I have way too much on my plate right now that I must deal with.
Sometimes APP has to be put on the back burner...Don't like it one bit.
I can barely paddle, chop wood, etc, as I have a repetitive strain injury from work, and the damn thing is acting up.
Was very painful on the Maple Lake trip.
So I'm not ready to go to The Park this weekend. I am hoping to go up in mid-November.
We'll see. Hope you all have a fantastic time, miss ya already!
Wow, Jeff. Is that your only excuse??? --Stainless
We're here on our 2nd day on Galeairy, and it's an absolutely GOEGEOUS morning!! Temps are very comfortable - we didn't even make a fire this morning. Was toasty as a bug in a rug last night in our wonderful MEC Habanero bags. While it was chilly last evening, a few glasses of wine and a nice fire made for a wonderful evening. We awoke this morning to sounds of a wolf pack howling as they passed behind our campsite on the old railway line. We were even greeted by a loon landing just off our site, and witnessed a large buck swimming the entire width of the bay yesterday afternoon.
We have a spot reserved just for you, should your feelings change. You should come out anyway. We're anxiously awaiting our next set of guests this afternoon.
From inside the park,

Technology
October 16 2009, 1:09 PM
Hmmm, seems technology is everywhere these days... Next it will be twittering on canoe trips... I take canoe trips to get away from that sort of thing. Don't want people calling me during my peace and quiet time.. heh heh...
Glad you guys are having a good time. Won't be able to get up there this weekend. Like Markus, sometimes ya have to take care of things on the home front. Got a Honey-Do list a mile long... Look forward to some pics when you guys are back...

Twittering
October 16 2009, 10:48 PM
Hopefully you mean chatting with the birds and/or their
talking back!
Technology, Technolgy... Where would we be without technology?
In the widest sense, nature is the basis of all enjoyment and well-being in the outdoors... You feel more fully the joy of living. You hear the voices modern man misses ... not just the voices that speak to the five senses, but the universal voice that speaks to the heart. (Tom Brown Jr.)
Forget the cell phone, Blackberry and Twittering unless you
are talking to the birds
IMHO
Nature has much better sounds and sights for anyone not fixated on
viewing a technological device display.
