I was camped on Clydegale Lake from Tuesday Oct. 13 to Thursday Oct. 15. On Wednesday I explored the area and went for a beautiful fall hike on the portage from Clydegale to Little Canoe Lake on the SW part of Clydegale. As I was enjoying a slice of cold pizza at LCL, I heard a twig crack, when I turned, there on the move was wolf less than 20 ft from me. It went swiftly and silently on its way. I was in shock and disbelief but felt absolutely no fear. While I was still stunned from that, another one was coming, so I crouched down to grab my camera and it either saw me or heard the snap of my pelican case and turned and went back. Oh well. I think the first one didn't notice me because there were a pair of large trees kind of blocking the view between where they came from and where I was. Definitely one of the most amazing experiences of my life. Surely worth my buying of a canoe. If that twig didn't make a noise, I would most likely have never even noticed the wolves.
I was camped on the island campsite and all that night I was serenaded by wolves. Fairly long bursts of singing and frequently as well. I have some pretty good video clips with sound of them so maybe I'll try to write up a proper trip report with pictures and sound.
