I'm looking for a cheap place for two adults and 3 kids to spend the nite before we meet the water taxi the next morning in Opeongo. Unfortunately, The Wolfsden is booked up, are there similar places close to the west gate?
Thanks
Skeeter

There are places in Whitney, way closer to Opeongo than Dwight.. if a bit out of the way. East Gate Motel, Parkway Motel, and Dreamcatcher Motel, my choices would be either Steve's place the Madmusher, where you get a real washroom, or stay in our cabin, we can put an air bed in for the kids( but you might have to pee on crown land, no problem for a good canoeist... right).

Algonquin Bound has opened a store near the West Gate and they have rooms to rent apparently.

If you go to Algonquin Bound... tell us what it's like, I haven't been there, I don't know anyone else who's been there, a trip report is in order I think.

Hi,

We have always used the East gate Motel. Now I know its not a 5 star facility however the price is right, I have always found it to be clean, and the service is good. Also it is handy that they serve breakfast every morning.

We are usually two adults and three children, presently all under thirteen, as well. We enter through the West Gate also. We typically have about a 4-5 hour drive to Huntsville so we stay there the night before at the Holiday Inn Suites. It's about an hour or so to OP, maybe a bit more. The reason it works for us is there is a pool, breakfast is included and nearby restaurants if necessary. There is also a Canadian Tire and grocery store to pick up those last minute items. Not sure about availability but I believe it is about $120 which, when you calculate what you would spend on breakfast the next day for five people, even at McD's, is decent value, given the other amenities and the fun my kids usually have.
