Some time ago Adrian asked me for some pictures of straps and buckles. In the mean time I have no idea anymore what it was about but it had something to do with comparing the old OEM buckles. Vintage, pre-v, pav etc.

Hope that's right A ?

Well, I jus had some fun with my camera. I'll let the pictures do most of the talking.

Depending on your strap-nerd-level, you will see a lot of tiny differences.

The problem is that if you take this too far you will even see differences in buckles that that are in fact the same.
(Been there done that. )

Let's start at the top. This strap comes straight off a 40ties compass. The real deal baby ! :

Backside :

Holy grail straps are best fit on holy grail watches...

Let's skip a few years. Here's a 1984 compass with GPF buckle:

These compasses and buckles where made from the 60ties till the 80ties. I wonder how a 60-ties buckle looks like.

What do we have more ?

Pav's off course.

And some friends :

Let's do some comparision shots :

pav93 and pav98.

Indeed : a 22mm and a 24mm !

(Congrats, You've now reached strap-nerd-level one. )

Pvd's now.

Pav 93 & 90 :

Again a 22 and a 24 mm buckle.

Pav 91,93 & 99 : 22mm

Pav 90 & 98 : 24mm

Here's a strap wit the same buckle as the pav90 but this is not a pav :

This one of the pre-v straps that could come with watches like a 203/A.

Next to a pav 90 :

Another non-pav strap with the same buckle, here next to the pav 93.

These so called 'exotic' straps where available as accesoires for the pre-V watches.:

Here's an MX strap next to a pav 98. (Same shape but differences in the engraving and the steel used.)

MX straps are the next best thing to pav's and more : they are OEM and still available !

In the non-oem section we have the so called 'second generation' Dirk's that come close. (Dirk feel free to kick me in the @ss for using your name but that's how they're known to nerds like me. )

The differences are obvious compared to a pav 98.

Pvd Dirk's vs pav 90 :

In case you were thinking 'that's not a pvd buckle', here a steel buckle added :

Guy's let me know if this was what you where looking for and if You need more or better pics.

Cheers,
Philip Fastré
