#15 : Pam 193 vs Pam 307

[linked image]

The two thicker Panerai. Both have a deep gauge function.
The Pam 193 is from the I series ( year 2006 ) and is classified as an instrument. 600 units were made.
The Pam 307 is a Special Edition of 500 units from the year 2008 ( K series ). It has been made in honor of the Mike Horn's Pangaea ( *1 + *1 bis ) expedition, explore - learn - act is its motto.
When the Pam 193 has a black dial the Pam 307 has a blue one. Both have a deep gauge function. Both have a 1950 case of 47 millimeters made of titanium. and this is with the movement ( or movements ) almost the only points able to unit these two models.

They are very similar and different in the same time that it is possible to play at find what is different and find at less ten dissimilarities happy.gif

A lot of little dots all around the dials

Skeleton hands ...

... under a sapphire think of 3.0 millimeters.
[linked image]

Together.

[linked image]
[linked image]

The dials are large and open. On the Pam 193, hours and minutes markeers seems more dark yellow

Views of the bezels :

The bezel by itself is narrow,
[linked image]
its indexes and markers are small ...
[linked image]

... the 15 minutes are carved but not fulfilled with black.
[linked image]

The detent is soft.
[linked image]

The pearl is set in a triangle. It seems larger and flatter on the Pam 307 .

Placed at 10 hours the polished pushbutton, with the logo engraved, start and stop the depth gauge function
[linked image]

Pure 1950 style but a very think 1950
[linked image]

The protecting crowns are engraved Reg.T.M ( *3 ).
The lever of the protecting crown of the Pam 193 is classical.
[linked image]

The Pam 307 benefits of the advanced technology

[linked image]
It has a thiner winding crown ...

[linked image]
... and a roll.

We can see the new quick strap change system on the Pangaea. Advanced technology !
[linked image]

The Pam 193 keeps the old system with screws.
[linked image]

Views of the casebacks :

[linked image]

The casebacks are very domed.
[linked image]

And show a different decoration ...

Opus Facere ( *2 )
[linked image]
In chronologic order the Pam 193 is the second Panerai ( after the twins 249/262 ) to receive the Latin text Opus Facere

vs

Logo of the Pangaea expedition and Mike Horn signature.
[linked image]

For the both, 120 meters are their water resistance.
[linked image]

OP 6612 for the Pam 193
[linked image]

And 6747 for the Pam 307, they are definitively not the same watch wink.gif

The movements :

Pam 193 & 307 :

Movement: Automatic mechanical, exclusive Panerai OP XV calibre, 13¼ lignes, 21 jewels, Glucydur® balance, 28.800 alternations/hour. Incabloc® anti-shock device. Power reserve 42 hours. Côtes de Genève decoration on the bridges. Panerai personalised oscillating weight. Chronometer Certificate (C.O.S.C.). Depth-gauge electronic module with Metas individual certificate.

Functions: Hours, minutes, small seconds. Depth gauge functions: indication of the maximum depth reached during the most recent dive, indication of the amount of battery power left, depth indication during a dive.

Some personal comments :

Never two watches could be so similar and so different at the same time.
It's impossible to say that one is better than the other, no more that they are complementary, just the 307 is maybe more a summer watch and at my surprise the 307 seems smaller on the wrist ( a few smaller ).
These two monsters offer a real diving function and are for me, because of their domed caseback, the most comfortable of the submersibles, they are impressive but not very heavy at all 161/162 grams ( head and screws only ) like the Pam 382 Bronzo.

Instrument vs watch ??

Thanks for watching happy.gif

*0 : Find what is different happy.gif :
1) instrument/watch, 2) black dial/blue dial, 3) tritium/luminova, 4) OP #, 5) winding crown, 6) protecting crown lever, 7) bezel on the 307 ( rack in the middle case, invisible ), 8) screws/quick strap change system, 9) pearl on the bezel, 10 ) caseback engraving... and 11 ) 500 units / 600 units happy.gif

*1 : PANGAEA :
Fron the ancient Greek pan "all" and Gaia "Earth", in Latin: Pangaea is literally "all lands" . It is the name given to the supercontinent by the German astronomer and meteorologist at the University of Marburg, Alfred Wegener. In his book The Genesis of continents and oceans and published in 1915, he described the gathering as Pangaea almost all of the land surface, which existed from the late Carboniferous to Early Jurassic.

*1 bis : PANGAEA :
Is the name of the boat used by Mike Horn for his 4 years expedition. Its lenght is of 35 meters, it is a very environmentally friendly boat, its hull is made of recyclable aluminum

*2 : OPUS FACERE:
From the latin opus stands for work, labor, to work and facere is the present active infinitive of facio which transleted wants to say to make. Finally Opus Facere means To do something with machine tools, hands, brains and passion.

*3 : REG.T.M. :
Combined stand for Registered TradeMark.
