Yes, JLC could've left the c.956 alone, but in their maniacal quest for historical accuracy, they modified the movement to buzz along the lines of a "cricket". To my eyes, this is part of what makes the DSA so special. Also, unlike the Polaris, which used a case and crowns from an Amvox, the DSA's case is unique to the watch and won't be used again.
I miss my DSA American something fierce (fell on its sword to put an IWC perpetual on my wrist), but at least I know it's in good hands.
