Well mates...are you ready for one of the most epic events in 'Risti history??? We sure hope you are!
As you all know, our dear mate Hammer and his lovely wife will be in Carlsbad (just north of San Diego, CA) to attend Project Walk. And of course...we just HAD to throw him a banger of a bash! This will be one for the ages...of that you can be sure...full of friends, fun, sun, and some cool surprises!
The Hammer GTG is officially set to take place on Saturday, August 18th either in, or close to, the Carlsbad area. The location can not be chosen until we can get a good idea of the amount of people who are going to attend. We don't want to book a place that will fit 100 people, only to have 200 RSVP...so PLEASE, it's very important that we get as early an indication as possible as to your attendance.
The cost will be in the $100 per person range. This is only a preliminary estimate, and there is some discussion about taking early non-refundable deposits to ensure your spot. Any surplus of GTG funds will be put back into the Project Walk fund and used accordingly.
We are also putting together a list of local hotels for the out of town travelers to choose from. We will try to block out some rooms and get discounted rates as well. We understand that many people will be coming in from all over the world and need to start making their plans...so please feel free to let us know how we can be of help.
SO come one....come all...but come prepared to have the BERRY BEST time!
RSVP to RIDE at this email address if you plan on attending: rideamountain@comcast.net
Thank in advance from your GTG planning committee: Davie Lee, 'Cheeky' Guille, and RIDE
I had planned to attend the GTG in August but felt certain that the date chosen would not be the weekend of the Monterey Vintage Auto Races and the Pebble Beach Concours. Many Paneristi are car enthusiasts as well, as is well known to both the watch and car communities. The events in Monterey and Carmel are world famous and many persons, including myself, make reservations nearly a year in advance. I had very much wanted to meet Hammer, spend time with other Paneristi, and feel that perhaps you should reconsider the weekend selected for the GTG since it will preclude many, including me, from attending the GTG.
it involves more than just an individual decision. It is an annual event involving about 5 couples, something the wife also looks forward to. Reservations, concours tickets, travel and other plans, etc. are already purchased or locked. Have friends displaying at the Quail Concours, in addition to the Pebble Beach Concours, would not feel right about cancelling out on them. My point was only that I am sure other Paneristi are also affected by the scheduling conflict and was asking the GTG organizers to reconsider, although if not possible then take plenty of pictures.
Like you, Ron, I'm a regular attendee in Monterey/Carmel every August and have prepaid accommodations, tickets, and commitments with various car clubs that I simply can't get out of at this point. I regret not being able to attend what will no doubt be an amazing GTG and wish all attendees, and in particular our guest of honor from DU, a fantastic time. Enjoy guys! I'll be there in spirit and no doubt feeling the love all the way up the coast.
