Tough one to answer though because I love both for different reasons.

I love the depth to the dial and historical provenance of the sandwich dials, but for pure legibility painted is best...and these are tool watches after all, right?

Actually, to me it looks like they may use the actual sandwich dial, but fill the cavities with luminova...at least to my untrained eye

Painted my be a misnomer, but everyone seems to know what it's referring to...

quick question about this watch.

a few newbie questions.

1) is this considered a vintage pam?

2) what is so special about the "T SWISS T" models that everyone keeps talking about?

3) what is the difference between "tritium" and "superluminova"?

Depends on the situation. One 44 lum case, I like painted. One the 44/47mm 1950 case and the 47 rad case I like the sandwich. One must be flexible.

Painted = Painstaking to make & High rejects...Sandwich = Easier, faster & cheaper to make

January 29 2008, 6:32 AM

Painted = Painstaking to make & High rejects.
Sandwich = Easier, faster & cheaper to make.

My 104 has a painted. When I use a 100x scope to look at it, I realized how delicate one hand must be to paint it without overspilling the ink. It's definitely harder to make.
In term of historical value, painted will go down in the history soon as it's shelf life will no be long. OP will definitely shift all dials to sandwich. So, in term of value, I think painted L dial will go the way of T dial when it's discon't.

While on my 219 & 217 where sandwich dial is used, they look cool & good. The glow is brighter at nite. But, the dial has lower value to me as it's sandwich. Sandwich dial is very very easy to make. Just drill some holes & stick a luminova plate down there. More new model will come with this dial. As a result, the dial itself will not gain in value. On;y the watch as a whole will.

That's my personal thought. I'm sure any ppl will disagree.
