My Desert Island Dream

Ship sinking -- and now washed ashore, with only 10 items to bring:
2 watches
2 songs
1 book
1 movie
1 photograph
1 memory
1 person
1 meal

What happened....
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
....I was minding my own business, as usual....

[linked image]

When I got a call from Martin. He found this great little island

[linked image]

with even better lobsters......

[linked image]

So I pack my suitcase, get in my car

[linked image]

and drive down to the harbor to get on my boat

[linked image]

But of course I don't get very far with this boat, not even on seas this calm

[linked image]

So this is where I wash ashore

[linked image]

with my suitcase, containing:

2 Watches

First up my first Pam, the one that got all this madness started,
my much loved 176, light, versatile and still one of the best Pam's IMHO

[linked image]

and of course my 87 OOR which is a great example of being at the right place at the right time,
well I guess it's always good to be in Florence at the Boutique happy.gif

[linked image]

2 Songs

My iPod has just 2 songs on it

Miles Davis, So What from the legendary album Kind of Blue

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DEC8nqT6Rrk
[linked image]

Stanley Clarke with Billy Cobham, Live at the Greek playing School Days

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOrTEIk-4po
[linked image]
No the correct version, but still a great performance at North Sea Jazz.

1 Book

I only read on holidays and there is one book would re-read because it is somewhat mind boggling to me.
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. I remember reading this at the pool during a holiday and people looked very
strange at me when I had to turn the book upside-down to keep reading.

[linked image]

1 Movie

I'm not a big movie buff, but as I'm dutch this one always makes me crave for a schmoke and a pancake.

1 Photograph

That would be this one of our little girl Annelot. She was born on September 15th last year,
5 weeks early but all is fine with her ever since.

[linked image]

1 Memory

Last summer, end of June, we went to Italy with the whole family. We had an awesome time together in Tuscany.
Little did we know that this would be our last holiday together.
On the day my wife and I got married (August 15th 2008) my dad got sick and he couldnt make it to our wedding.
As it turned out, the pneumonia we thought he had, in fact was cancer.
My dad passed away on December 15th leaving a big gap in all our lives.
This photo was taken during our last holiday, doing what he liked the most, telling stories to his grand children.

1 Person

Here I would have to cheat and pick two (sorry). The two most important girls in my life : Christine and Annelot
Christine is the one that picked me up after a ruff period in my life. Classic story, she was a colleague of mine, we hooked up and
the rest is history, well not ancient history because we first met 2,5 years ago happy.gif

[linked image]

And five months ago this little wonder was born, Annelot.

[linked image]

1 Meal

That would be a bistecca fiorentina (preferably flame grilled on a BBQ somewhere in Tuscany)

[linked image]

[linked image]

Together with a bottle of Tenuta Dell Ornellaia

[linked image]

And a panne cotta della Nonna as desert

[linked image]

And that's it, nothing more, nothing less wink.gif Hope you all liked it!

Please post your name underneath. I'll pick the next DID dude (or gall) next Monday, thanks for watching!

Cheers,
Gert-Jan

So very irresponsible...

February 12 2009, 3:27 PM

Why is it everyone brings their wives and kids on these flimsy boats? OK, not all have been flimsy, but my wife would hit me over the head if I tried to get on that boat of yours. happy.gif

All kidding aside, that picture of your dad (and niece, I take it?) is an incredible photo. Very simple and really understated (it is just a snapshot) but, at least for me, it evokes many emotions. A real intimate moment that anyone can relate to.

And I am making House of Leaves my next book to read. I really go for the unconventional, and having to read it upside-down piques my interest.

Great post, m8. thanks!
