So...a lot to discuss. I think everyone by now has seen the official press photos from Martin. Pretty nice, right?

Well, all I can say is that in person, the watches are even nicer.

Some general observations:

- Panerai is really continuing to push the historical collection and tie the new pieces back to their roots, while at the same time incorporating (successfully, I think0 new materials and finishing into selected pieces. As a collector, I'm torn by wanting 100% historically correct watches while not wanting to be afraid to try something new. I give Panerai a lot of credit for not being afraid (like rolex, for instance) to venture from their 'comfort zone' and try new things.

- Panerai is really emphasizing movement finishing with some spectacular examples. I'll post some movement pics shortly.

- Ceramic is here, and in a big way.

- For SE's, the count number if pieces to be issued is (relatively) low. I anticipate big struggles coming as people fight over the limited numbers of pieces. For example, the 399 is only 100pcs and 50 of those are in a 2-watch set.

After greeting our hosts, Jean-Sebastien and Eva from Hong Kong, we were invited to one of the private rooms to view the collection.

Stefano, who works for Panerai Marketing in Hong Kong, walked us through the collection







So after those, there are two similar SE's to choose from, the PAM448 and PAM449. Both watches contain the p3000 movement and have rad-styled straps similar to the burgundy-colored lacquered strap that came with the 372. 500 pcs for each model.



These are beautiful, and the PAM449, with the black dial and blue hands is a terrific tribute to the 2533. I have to say, this watch (to me) was the star of the show (although the PAM399 is fighting for the top spot).



My only wish for these two would have been to fit them with the Minerva movement..that would further differentiate them from the regular line models and make them quote special (although the p3000 is a very nice movement to look at as well ))

Just asking as in the photograph, there is no 'pig' on the dial of the PAM00425, whereas in the official press release, there is.

Looks like Panerai was listening when we all wanted **** version of the 373. They came out with two version!
