Greetings from the Land of Smiles...
No modern piece could ever replace the vintage pieces but with the prices they go for
most of us will never have the chance to buy one (even if I had the money i would opt for something els at the 120k price range)
that being say'd the only pam that make my hart bounce every time i see it is the 382
Panerai - PAM 127 (the perfect compliment to my 372)
Non-PAM - AP ROO Diver
Personally just couldn't own a watch much over $20k because I think I would be scared to wear it. And my #1 rule with my watches is if I don't wear it, it's going out the door...
AP Diver is on the "to-do" list, and is really the only non-PAM I'm dying for right now. I will be happy when I can pick up that along with the others I have on the way (EF Bronzo, 390).
That would cover all my "in my dreams vintage Panerai"

For me, a grail is unobtainable, or very nearly so.
My grail is the 360. I love the design and story, but will never purchase one, so it fits my criteria.

...to me should be something that is pretty much unattainable. I have a few watches that I hold in high esteem, but I know there is a chance I will one day own. My grail would have to be without a doubt a PAM 00203.
If you're asking what watch is my realistic little girls with curls, probably two right now and I could say I'm done after whittling it down to 5 or 6 watches in my hoard. First, a BP IWC 5002 to go with the 5004 I already love. And then a 372 to join the 232 and 112 G..
Now as to what I would play Templar and endure the burning sands to visit Petra for it would definitely be vintage like a 1938 or something huge., but I don't think I would ever spend 200K for a watch, so that's probably befitting the term Grail.
I agree that to be a grail, it has to be virtually unobtainable. For me, therefore, it has to be the 360. I was not lucky at the time, and so will never own one.

awesome topic, i happen to be wearing it today!
my true and only grail would have to be the the first watch i ever bought with my own money. saved and saved for it. it was the beginning of a wonderful journey. without this one there would be no others and no passion for watches.
its not the most expensive watch, but to me it is my grail.
1994 Rolex Daytona would never ever part with it.
watches will come and go, but this one will stay with me and my bloodline forever.
Grail is too big a word for me.. Vintages pieces are defintely out due to the price range.. so to be more realistic will be modern ones. One that I really want is 382 aka Bronzo. Not wanting to pay a premium to get one off grey sellers, and can't see myself getting one from AD or boutique, it has more or less become a grail for me, but who knows, dreams may come true.....
267 is limited to 6 pieces.
5 are sold and the # 5 was forgotten in the back of a taxi in Switzerland.
Recently, the # 5 came in the Bronx, NY in the midst of garbage !
Before the 382, never really liked a Panerai submersible thus never owned one. After looking at SIHH 2011 pics then the real thing, simply fell in love with it. After I got mine I had a smile on my face 24/7 for a week! Just can't get it off my wrist.
