Just Bought My First Panerai

So I went in my local jeweler to have a Tag repaired and I came across a few Panerai's for sale. I must say that while I've seen these watches before....I never picked one up as none have never spoken to me. For some reason, the Luminor Marina (PAM00220) screamed at me so I dove in. How have those in this community found the watch to perform over time? Would anyone consider this to be a timepiece that might appreciate in value over time? I see that it's limited in production to 500. Is this a per year number or total production for the life of the model? I'm trying to determine if this should be a piece I take great care of and possibly hand down to one of my son's one day. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

The bracelet is awesome. If you look at the milestone area above you can see the years it was made. Here is a link:

I'll admit I know little of the 220, but happy to see you pull the trigger on a watch that spoke to you.
As they say here, welcome to the madness, and congratulations on your first Panerai.

Congratulations. As for your questions ...

my brother has a 220 so i know a little bit about it. they were made for three years in lots of 400, 400 and 500. after the third year panerai developed a new style bracelet and the 220 was retired. they now have the 299. same watch, but with the new style bracelet. don't worry though ... the old style bracelet (yours) is much nicer and prefered by most risti's. i wouldn't say the 220 will appreciate over time but it's held it value pretty well simply because there are only 1,300 out there. having said that, i would wear the watch without worry. it has a lot of polished areas that will mark easily, but will also give it some character. if and when you're ready to hand it down to one of your sons, send it in for a service and polish and it will look as good as new. congrats again on a beautiful new rugged watch!
