2012 NORTH AMERICAN PANERAI CLASSIC YACHTS CHALLENGE
CIRCUIT KICKS OFF IN MARBLEHEAD WITH CORINTHIAN CLASSIC YACHT CHALLENGE

Panerai once again partners with local non-profit organization Sailing Heals to offer cancer patients and caregivers a day of respite and healing on the sea
August 2012, New York, NY August is the peak of yachting season in Americas Northeast, and the rocky historic shores of Marblehead, MA will once again set the stage to kick-off of 2012 Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge-North American Circuit with the Corinthian Classic Yacht Challenge, taking place from August 10th through August 12th.

The city of Marblehead, claimed by many as the birthplace of the American Navy, is ideally suited to open the North American Circuit of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge. Marbleheads rich yachting and sailing history, its charming, active fishermens harbor and its vicinity to Boston, has made it one of New Englands preferred sailing destinations. For the past 32 years, the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta has served as one of the most pivotal events of the classic yachting season, and has become even more recognized after joining the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge N.A. Circuit series in 2010.
As every sailor knows, behind the scenes of every regatta are tried-and-true stories of the passionate restoration of classic boats. To celebrate the art of classic boat restoration, a photo exhibition and video featuring Panerais restoration of the 1936 Fife ketch, EILEAN, will be on display near the Panerai Hospitality Lounge at the Corinthian Yacht Club. EILEAN, found in disrepair in 2006 by Panerai CEO Angelo Bonati, was restored by Officine Panerai in Italy to her previous glory and, as a testament to her impressive provenance, she successfully raced for the first time in this years Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, after a few trial sails in the Mediterranean. Marblehead sailing enthusiasts and regatta participants will have opportunities to view this photo exhibition at specific times during the regatta weekend.

Additionally, in support of Panerais founding sponsorship of the non-profit organization Sailing Heals and its continued partnership with local area hospitals, Panerai will once again sponsor a patient and caregiver sail out of the beautiful Marblehead harbor the day before the competition begins. Sailing Heals mission, as per the vision of Panerai, is to provide unique sailing and boating experiences to individuals, families, caregivers and staff who may benefit from a congenial, relaxing day on the water.
Finally, Panerai will host morning meet and greets for local sailing aficionados, affectionately named Cappuccino with the Captains, which will allow community residents in Marblehead, a chance to mingle with the captains and crew of the participating classic yachts before each of the PCYC races. These intimate morning coffee sessions, held on Saturday, August 11th and Sunday, August 12th, will offer local yachting enthusiasts the opportunity to speak with captains and crew about their unique experiences racing and their dedication to classic regattas.
Since its inception eight seasons ago, the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge has grown to be the largest complete classic yacht circuit in North America. The PCYC North American Circuit consists of three classic sailing contests: the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta (August 10th
12th, Marblehead, MA), the Opera House Cup (August 17th 20th, Nantucket, MA) and the Museum of Yachting Classic Yacht Regatta (August 31st September 2nd, Newport, RI).
The overall winner of the Corinthian Classic Yacht Regatta will be awarded a coveted Panerai timepiece at the CCYR awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon, with the overall North American circuit winner taking home the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge North American Circuit trophy an elegant sculpture of a classic sailboat at the culminating awards ceremony in Newport, RI.

Panerai developed its first prototype in the 1930's for the Italian Navy, and the watches were kept under military secret until the 1990's. It is this historic link with the military that Panerai continues a respectful relationship with the sea through its worldwide classic regatta series. The world of traditional sailing, with its wooden vessels and timeless designs supported by the passion of yachting enthusiasts, is synchronistic with the values of Officine Panerai and its dedication to fine craftsmanship and its heritage with the sea.

Founded in Florence in 1860 as a workshop, shop and school of watch-making, for many decades Officine Panerai supplied the Italian Navy in general, and its specialist diving corps in particular, with precision instruments. The designs developed by Panerai in that time, including the Luminor and Radiomir, were covered by the Military Secrets Act for many years and were launched on the international market only after the brand was acquired by the Richemont Group in 1997. Today Officine Panerai develops and crafts its movements and watches at its Neuchâtel manufacture. The latter are a seamless melding of Italian design flair and history with Swiss horological expertise. Panerai watches are sold across the world through an exclusive network of distributors and Panerai boutiques.

PANERAI CLASSIC YACHTS CHALLENGE
In honor of its historic links to the sea, Officine Panerai has promoted classic sailing culture for many years through its sponsorship of the Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge, the leading international circuit for these vintage craft. In 2007, the company also acquired and restored the Bermudan ketch Eilean. Built in 1936 by the legendary Fife yard at Fairlie in Scotland, she is now the brands ambassador at vintage and classic boat rallies and regattas.
