OK, before anyone gets bent out of shape this is simply an inquiry as to the feasibility of this project...

So... would love a PAM294 but not at 30K asking... so... do you think it would be possible to swap out the sapphire glass on a 232 with the plexi of a 249 or 294?

I have heard it is next to impossible to get spare authentic Panerai parts (hands, dials, etc.) - would an AD even order me a spare plexi?

If the glass and plexi were interchangeable (are they the same size? is the fit around the edge the same? would the result be water tight?...), where would you get it done? I am in Japan so not really a case of popping down to the nearest watchmaker... most wouldn't have a clue what a Panerai is... and forget custom requests... that would mean thinking...

Helpful responses welcome - but if you have something negative to say please keep it to yourself - I am not made of money so trying to think of the best alternative to the real thing...

and it works perfectly, and the best part is you can always switch it back. I agree the premiums for the 294 are insane especially with the potential a steel version of the 379 could be announced in 2013 that will have the p.3000, plexi and engraved dial. I actually located a spare 249 plexi to convert my 232 but haven't gotten around to doing it but I know people who have.
