Opinions on 233 - K series

I'm seriously considering a 233 K series from an AD in New Delhi. This is the one with the dot indicator (non am/pm). As the K series production would be about 3 years old already, if I am correct.

I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on the K series PAM 233? I believe there were some issues with the PR on the J series. Were these resolved with the K series?

The AD unfortunately only has one piece of the 233 available and does not know when a newer production will become available.

I am getting a discount on the listed price of the K series though.

Cheers

I believe I, J & K series

...are all suspect if you're unlucky.

I have over time owned one of each series, all at some point either stopped running or had other problems. I thought (hoped) the K series would be hassle free but sadly it wasn't. I was obviously unlucky, others have had no issues at all so it's impossible to predict.

Thanks Baz... Appreciate your feedback.. Given the substantial $$$ involved, I think I may be better off waiting till a later series is available... My worry also stems from the fact that if something is wrong, it is unlikely that they will be able to fix the watch in India, given the in-house movement..

Later series with the AM/PM dial..

...seem less troublesome or trouble free, though personally i dislike that dial design over the original.

K should be okay. However,...

... it's not that the calibre had serious issues. The affected watches were insufficiently lubricated - something that Panerai service can change quite easily if you happen to run into problems.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy the watch. A late Dot-233 is IMO the best 233 one can buy (if you like the dot-dial, which I find ultra-cool).

Cheers
Dave

My K series

...was purchased brand new and simply stopped one day as many before it had. Lack of lubrication as the problem is news to me. Many suffered sticking of the PR track as i recall. Some had dial changes and various other work done to them, suggesting something more serious than simply lack of oil.

I agree the solar/dot dial is a good looking watch but now all factory warranties will have expired i wouldn't gamble on another one.

The issue is quite simple...

I too did some heavy due diligence before I dove in and bought my grail the 233 k. The PR indicator getting stuck was due to a combination that the slot that it slide through has a very low tolerance of misalignment (ie it's narrow), therefore if the dial was off in orientation at all, there would be a higher chance of sticking.

If you had one that got stuck, i was told that PASC would replace the dial with a slightly larger slot and properly align it and you would be good to go.

If you are worried, you could ask the dealer to wind all the way and then ...check if there any issues.

I love mine and the power reserve is closer to 9.5 days. Good luck!
