Pam Bronzo bezel showing uneven surface

Just wondering if anyone else who has had experience with the Bronzo notice the bezel inner edge to the sapphire crystal showing an uneven surface? I can understand patina forming on the bronze case but is this more like corrosion of some sort.

Happy to learn from anyone who has a similar encounter and experience.

Thank you.

Given the advanced degradation perhaps the previous owner used a cleaning solvent on the crystal that came in contact with the bezel which accelerated the natural process.

Did your watch have a patina and did you leave it like that >>

You can search on Bronze disease which is a chemical reaction and which eats away at bronze

Not which bronzes if any are immune. Don;t own one, so didn't get into the major parts of the write up.

On the other hand. Maybe not as I don;t know what you did with your watch

Thanks.

Watch was already in this state when I got it pre-ownewd. Didn’t do anything to it to try to alter the patina.

Unacceptable no matter...

How you slice it. Part of the unspoken selling points of a Bronzo is the patina that develops, which it will do more or less on its own outside of forcing it. This is clearly a bad choice of bronze, a fault in craftsmanship or something in between.

It is what it is - metals react to different situations and chemicals >>

Problem occurs when people let the oxidation build up on the case and it starts to attack one part of the alloy makeup.

Various types of bronze alloys, but are any resistant over time?

Maybe that's why the Panerai SLOB was PVD coated to prevent this from happening

Panerai jumped on the bronze bandwagon when others started doing it.

Some let it patina to a certain point, but have seen others who let it go a little to far and would never buy a secondhand watch after that

Main thing. OP should have returned the watch to the seller as Panerai will probably not replace the case. They never have and blamed the owners of creating the problems in the first place.

Suitability

Panerai talks about its ties with the ocean. Good, let's make a watch out of a material that corrodes and pits after exposure to it.

Its not the case ! Just the bezel!

February 9 2018, 1:01 AM

Pardon me but this looks like just the bezel that is out of sort .
Bezel replacement should not be bad to replace.

question : Were you made aware of this before you bought it with pictures and explanation with a reduced price to cover a new bezel ?
Sometimes with the excitement of a new piece this could be overlooked .
