Interesting ! I asked if anyone knew if the strap was real or not,
July 3 2009, 2:43 PM
and no one answered me !
Do you KNOW it is a fake ?
I figure "why expend the effort to make a fake, when only one was made ?"
It also looks like excellent quality.
My other thought on this topic is "if you can make a fake pam 190 with a perfect 8 days movement, why make fakes? open your own watch company, and sell your excellent movements"
I never saw another one of these straps EVER, and it is excellent OEM quality. Looking at it and my other straps, well, impossible for me to know. Therefore I put in my ad, I am unsure if it's real or fake.
So, I'm unsure, real or not ?
I'd love an answer, but an answer based on something more than a guess.
(btw, you brought this strap to my son's attention, and it looks like the little orphan strap might be adopted.)
Your'e right but neither was there a necessity for your comment.

To expand we, the mods and owners, have no way to monitor the correctness of offerings on any of our sales fora. On the CM and DM the membership does an excellent job in quickly and accurately pointed out concerns about the authenticity of both watches offered and the sellers posting ads.
The amount of fake/counterfeit/questionable items offered in the past on the AC, while minimal, has usually involved larger dollar amount items, generally parts and primarily of a more vintage nature. Those few incidents led to some harsh words, sore feelings and general headaches we wish to avoid.
In an attempt to both minimize our workload and avoid the potential of a member being scammed it was just easier to not allow any parts to be posted. That being said, I would refer everyone to this heading on the CM...
"Paneristi.com's online sales forums were created for and to allow the members to buy, sell, and trade Panerai watches and their related accessories amongst themselves. Paneristi.com is not involved in any of these transactions between buyers and sellers nor does it bear any responsibility for the transactions that may result. Paneristi.com cannot verify nor does it have any control over the authenticity of any item offered for sale. Paneristi.com does not screen buyers or sellers and can in no way guarantee that a buyer or seller will actually complete a transaction. We can also in no way verify the actual identity of individual buyers or sellers. Individuals entering into any transaction do so entirely at their own risk."
When did this come about? I could probably do a search and find two dozen
post selling parts. Michael's actual dial was sold here by a good member of this forum.
I don't understand what the problem is? (Again no disrespect to you or any of the Mods.)

The other mods and owners certainly come closer than me, but the fact remains we all are human and as such should be afforded the occasional gaffe.
First link (now deleted): I apologize that there are occasional times your moderating staff misses a post that is not in compliance. If you see one going forward please feel free to notify me and I will be glad to remove the offending item.
Second link: I don't understand your rationale for including this link (not because I'm the poster BTW) It's not advertising a part for sale and as such is not germane to this discussion.
Hope this clears up any confusion you had. If not, please drop me an email and I will try to further explain to your complete understanding. Thank you.

As Deputy Sherrif in the Village, you might be able to advise me on the following thoughts.
There's been a fair bit of healthy discussion recently about what Posts should be allowed and the general guidelines on Locking or Deleting posts, or in short Censorship; I wouldn't be a Mod liek you for quids.
The guiding principle here is monetary value - if we are talking big bucks, the guidelines allow for down anything that could harm the value of an inve$tment.
I'll give you an example, Posts about Fakes/Frakens/Hommages get Deleted as someone who has stumped up $1ook large for a vintage piece doesn't want to lose hi$ dough, (particularly if that piece has an undetermined provenance) if every Risti and his dog starts knocking out 'fakes'.
However, if you look at Straps - risti.com aids and abets the production, promotion and sale of what could be described as Fakes or Hommages.
Parts ? well that's another thing altogether....what do you think ?
"However, if you look at Straps - risti.com aids and abets the production, promotion and sale of what could be described as Fakes or Hommages."
Sorry but total BS mate!!
Don't confuse straps with fakes or hommages, straps are generic items...
I do not see how you can accuse us or aiding and abetting the production, promotion and sale of fakes and hommages...
We will as soon as we see or realise remove any straps that are fake (ie branded as OEM but not)..
We have no interest whatsover in any production or manufacturing or promotion of any of the straps sold here, we merely offer a platform for the collectors to buy them and the makers to offer their wares. In fact we are constantly asked by 'new' strap makers be thay home hobbyists to proffesional set ups to have an inclusion on the straps page but we decline this until such time that we can be sure that these guys are legit and will deliver what they promise..
The sale of OEM parts surely cannot be allowed given that these items should not come onto the open market at all, any such part has to have come from a service bin of some description and as such it's provenance and quality can serioulsy be questioned...if you have such an item then there are other routes to market but surely not here!
Yes some posts get through under the radar or are missed, we cannot catch everything, but these are not a resaon to say that such posts are allowed
Be a Mod for quids, you actually couldn't pay us enough to face the grief and abuse that sometimes comes our way from partaking in what is essentially a hobby in our own time...but be assured we discuss at length all our decisions and whilst some have notifications in the rules etc there are some that fall into the general ethos and code that we believe exists within the site, as such these are enforced quietly and usually with a follow up mail explaining why the edit or deletion
cheers

All good mate and rest assured my Post was not intended to detract from the massive effort you guys make, I meant what I said about not wanting to be a Mod.
Also, for clarification, my use of the term 'fake' was literal i.e. 'not real' as opossed to 'counterfeit' where deception is the intention.
I believe it is well known that Officine Panerai do not appreciate third parties making replica's of any part of their watches and would perhaps cringe at their straps being considered 'generic'. An Ammo strap is clearly an Hommage item, or an item that is not real, in my opinion.
