(interview with David Cronenberg)..'the shots in (History of Violence) are very quick. The idea is to say that this violence is real. It has an impact on a human body that is not very pleasant. This is not a kung fu fantasy.This is showing that violence is very nasty, very brutal, very quick, very unpredictable and has horrific consequences. The most violent scene in the film comes as Stall forces himself sexually on his wife, in the stairwell of their home. The violence is part of the sexuality. And there is a sexual element to violence. There is a bizarrely sexual element in state executions. There is a perverse sexuality involved in executing somebody'.

Q (not exceeding 200 words)..to what extent is Cronenberg's view that sex is violence reasonable. You may like to use examples,for or against, from your own experience (more lurid the better!). To what extent does sex in the personal politic reflect societal values? Can sexual violence be reduced through displacement, eg. adopting the guise of a crusty wigga Jay-z. Discuss (under an alcoholic/other haze acceptable!).
