Shawn knew when to trust his instincts. Whenever he needed to talk to someone, his instincts always told him to show up on his great grandmother’s doorstep.
Alice Grayson Horton was a wise woman, with a kind heart, who always made the time to be there for her family.
So when Shawn found himself confused as to what to do about his situation with Belle, he knew he could speak to his great grandmother.
There were sitting in her living room, eating a batch of fresh donuts, as Shawn explained his situation with Belle. He didn’t leave out any details, and Alice sat and listened to her great grandson pour his heart out to her.
He took a deep breath once he was finished, relieved that he had finally told someone.
“Shawn dear, before I offer you any advice, there’s something I have to ask you,” Alice said, her eyebrows arching. “And I want you to be honest with me, because I can always tell when you’re lying,” Alice said, her voice very serious.
“Yes Gran.” Shawn said, in a simple and gentle voice.
“Yes - I love her; I love her so much that it’s killing me that I’m not with her right now,” Shawn told her.
“Then why are you here?” She asked.
“What?” Shawn said, obviously confused.
Alice laughed at Shawn’s confusion. “Darling, you’ve explained to me why your relationship with Belle is complicated, but I don’t see it that way. You love her very much - I can see it in your eyes, whenever you mention her name,” Alice observed.
Shawn nodded. “I’ve never tried to hide my love for Belle,” Shawn said.
“And so you shouldn’t,” Alice said. “Shawn Douglas, what happened to John Thomas was a terrible tragedy, but it was still an accident – you don’t really think that Belle’s father intended to run him over, do you?” Alice asked.
Shawn sighed. “I don’t know Gran - I’m just not sure.” Shawn admitted, his face somber as he tried to work out his feelings.
“And why are you not sure?” Alice asked.
“Well, because I don’t know the man, I-“
“Precisely – you don’t know anything about John Black, except for the fact that he made a terrible mistake, which resulted in John Thomas becoming paralyzed.” Alice said. She stated the facts as she knew them, and concluded that there was no way that Shawn could argue with her on this.
“Gran, when you put it that way, I just-“
“You what dear? Realize you’re being too hard on him? Darling, I’m sure that John Black regrets what happened, and I wish you would stop holding a grudge against the man. If you want a future with Belle, you have to let go of these feelings of anger, because like it or not, if you decide to marry Belle, which I know you haven’t told me if you want to or not - but if you do, he is going to be a part of your life,” Alice said.
Shawn ran his fingers through his hair in frustration. He listened to what Alice said, and thought about whether or not he could forgive John. It would mean so much to Belle, and he knew it would be good for him to let go of these feelings of anger and hostility towards a man that he had never met before.
Making Belle happy was his first priority; if forgiving John would make Belle happy, Shawn knew it was something he had to consider.
“Gran, I don’t know if I can let go of this anger – every time I LOOK at JT, I think about what could’ve been, and I feel so bad,” Shawn admitted.
“Of course you do darling, and that’s because you’re a very compassionate man, who happens to love his brother very much,” Alice said. “But you have to remember something – your parents, and JT, don’t hold any feelings of resentment or anger towards John Black, yet you still do. We all know it’s because of how passionate and protective you are towards your family, but you have stop being so stubborn. Ultimately, you’re only hurting yourself - and Belle,” Alice told him.
Shawn recalled how hurt Belle had been earlier that morning – he had said so many hurtful things to her, and to make matters worse, he hadn’t even called her to see how she was doing.
“I’m such an idiot,” He muttered.
“Now dear, don’t be so down on yourself,” Alice said, hoping she could reassure her great grandson.
“Gran, you don’t understand – I said some terrible things to her – I hope she can forgive me.” Shawn said.
“Dear, she already has.” Alice said. “But you have to go to her – tell her how you feel, and tell her that you’ll do anything to make her happy,” Alice said.
“You’re right Gran,” Shawn said, with a new determination in his voice. “I know it’s getting late, but I’m going to see her right now, and we’ll come to some sort of understanding,” Shawn said. He stood up from the sofa, and kissed his great grandmother on the cheek. “Thanks so much for listening to me Gran, and helping me decide what to do.” Shawn said.
“Darling, I will always be here for you. Never hesitate to come by when you need to talk to someone.” Alice said.
“I know Gran. Thanks again. Love you.” Shawn said.
“I love you too Shawn Douglas. Now get out of here and go and see your girlfriend!” Alice said jokingly.
“Yes Ma’am!” Shawn said.
And he was off.
There was nothing more that Belle hated then self-pity. Yet here she was – in her bathrobe, sitting cross-legged on her sofa, with a box of Kleenex in front of her, feeling sorry for herself. She saw how late it was getting, and knew that she had to be in bed soon, since she had to be at work bright and early the next morning.
But each time she thought about work, she cringed – how would she face her father, now that he knew about her and Shawn? He had said that he wasn’t going to be speaking to Belle for a while, and Belle wondered if he actually meant it.
It pained her to know that her father was so upset with her, and it pained her even more that Shawn wasn’t with her that night, to help her through this.
She felt stupid for feeling so optimistic that everything would turn out all right. She honestly believed that if she was honest with her parents, they wouldn’t stand in the way of her being with Shawn. But what had John done? Demand that she stop seeing Shawn, pronto.
Belle had no intention of cutting Shawn out of her life, but she wondered - did Shawn still want her in his?
She was surprised when she heard someone knocking at the door, and she jumped up from the sofa, hoping that it was Shawn.
She wasn’t disappointed when she opened the door, and found Shawn looking at her, a concerned look on his face.
“Belle baby, what’s wrong?” He asked, walking in. He immediately noticed her face streaked with tears, and her cheeks all puffed up from crying.
He didn’t say another word as he gathered her close to him, gently rocking her back and forth in his arms. Belle couldn’t help but let another tear escape from her eye, but this time, she wasn’t sad. She was relieved that Shawn had finally shown up at her apartment, and she didn’t even care how late it was.
“Oh Shawn,” She said, holding on to him even tighter. “It’s been a horrible day,” She said. She almost sounded like a child, and Shawn could feel the hurt in her voice. He guessed that things hadn’t gone well with her parents, and he knew that couldn’t be good, especially with the way they had left things earlier that day.
“Let’s go into the kitchen, so we can have some tea,” Shawn said, in a soft and soothing voice.
Belle nodded, and walked with him over to the kitchen. She went to get her teakettle, but Shawn stopped her. “Let me,” He said gently. Seeing that Belle was still upset, he insisted that Belle sit down as he made them both a cup of tea. Once he was finished, he sat down with her at the kitchen table, and they quietly sipped their tea together.
When they were finished, and Shawn noticed that Belle seemed calmer, he took her hand and held it gently. “Are you feeling a bit better?” He asked.
Belle nodded. “Much.” She said.
“Wanna tell me what happened?” He asked gently.
Belle nodded, and stood up from her chair. “Well, I told my parents about us, and they didn’t take it so well,” Belle said. “And that’s putting it mildly,” She added.
“What did your father say?” Shawn asked.
“You don’t want to know.” Belle said. “I already know how you feel about him Shawn, and that didn’t help me much tonight,” She said. “I could’ve really used a helping hand,” Belle said accusingly.
Shawn lowered his head in shame. “I know.” He said quietly. “And I’m sorry.”
Belle said nothing, but merely looked at Shawn, who refused to make eye contact with her.
“Shawn, look at me,” She said. He slowly lifted his head, and their eyes met. Even though Belle had every right to be upset with him, she wasn’t – Shawn could see by her soft blue eyes that she was simply relieved that he had finally shown up.
“Oh Belle,” He said. “Come here,” He said, patting his lap. Belle walked over to him, and hooked her arms around his neck as she sat down, pressing her forehead against his. She sobbed quietly, and it broke Shawn’s heart.
“Do you want to tell me what happened?” He asked her, rubbing her back gently as he tried to sooth her nerves.
“No.” Belle responded.
“No?” Shawn said, cupping her face in his hands and looking at her in concern. “I think you do, but you’re afraid that I’ll get upset at whatever your father said to you,” Shawn said.
Belle was amazed that Shawn had read her so correctly, but she still remained quiet.
Shawn sighed. “Look Belle, I know I’ve been a jerk,” Shawn said. “And I’m so sorry that I hurt you.”
“I know you are Shawn,” Belle said. “I know you didn’t mean anything you said today, but the fact is, you did say them, and you saying sorry doesn’t ease the pain that I felt,” Belle said. She looked almost tired as she looked into his eyes. “I really needed you tonight,” She whimpered.
“Oh Belle, oh baby,” Shawn said. He wiped her tears away with his fingers, and kissed her forehead tenderly. “You have to tell me what happened, so I can help you baby,” Shawn said. “I promise, I won’t say a word against your father; please, just tell me what happened, so I can be there for you.”
“Oh Shawn, it was horrible,” She whispered. “I told them everything – about our relationship, and how much you meant to me, and how serious we were about each other,” Belle said. “So I was hoping to kind of ease the blow, foolishly thinking that they wouldn’t care about who you were, that they would see how happy I am, that it wouldn’t matter to them,” Belle said. “I’m so stupid,” She said.
“What did he say?” Shawn asked.
“Oh he was furious,” Belle said. She recalled her father jumping up from the sofa, and demanding that she stop seeing Shawn. “He treated me like I was a teenager, and told me that I had to stop seeing you,” Belle told him. “And when I refused, he told me he wouldn’t be talking to me for a while.” Belle said. The pain was visible on her face, and Shawn ached for her. “So when I left, he refused to say good night to me.”
“Damn,” Shawn said silently. He couldn’t believe any of this.
“My mother was pretty good about the whole thing, and she tried to assure me that my father just needed time to calm down, that was all,” Belle said. “So with everything that happened between us this afternoon, that encounter with my father is just what I needed tonight!” Belle exclaimed, bursting into tears once again.
Shawn pulled Belle close, feeling like a heel for the way he had treated Belle. He knew that just when she had needed him most he had turned his back on her. Her father had obviously reacted negatively towards her news, and Shawn wanted to cut his throat for being so insensitive. He patted her back gently, trying to sooth her with words of love and affection.
“There there now Belle,” He whispered. He kissed her forehead, and continued to hold her, refusing to let her go until she was calm once again.
Finally, when Belle thought she had cried enough, she lifted her head up to look at Shawn. Her eyes were puffy and red, and she managed to smile at Shawn shyly. “Sorry about that,” She said, obviously embarrassed.
“There’s nothing to be sorry about,” Shawn said. “I’m the one who’s sorry,” Shawn mumbled. “I’m so sorry I hurt you sweetie, and I’m sorry for what happened with your father.” He swallowed nervously. “I wish I could’ve been there for you,” He admitted.
Belle looked at him in surprise. “You do?” She said.
Shawn nodded. “Look Belle, I’ve been a class A jerk, and I wouldn’t blame you if you never wanted to have anything to do with me ever again.” Shawn said. “I went to talk to someone tonight – someone I trust, and who’s opinion I value,” Shawn said. “And she helped me see what an idiot I’ve been,” Shawn told her.
“Go on,” Belle said, obviously intrigued.
“Well, I explained to her about our whole situation, and basically what she got me to realize was that I had to let go of my anger, and give your father a chance,” Shawn said. “Maybe this should’ve been said sooner, I don’t know,” Shawn said. “But I’ve just been so confused as to what to do,” Shawn said.
“I know Shawn – this whole thing has gotten really complicated,” Belle said.
“But it’s only because I’ve made things complicated,” Shawn said. “So here’s what we’re going to do,” Shawn said. “Tomorrow evening, I’m bringing you home to meet my parents. I’m going to tell them the truth, and if they have a problem with me seeing you, they’re just going to have to deal with it,” Shawn said. “JT already adores you, so we’ll have no problem with him,” Shawn said.
“Oh Shawn, are you sure about this?” Belle asked. She was obviously pleased with what Shawn was proposing, and she couldn’t wait to meet his parents.
“Positive. After you’ve met my parents, I’d like to-“ He paused, not sure if he wanted to go through with this. But when he looked into Belle’s innocent blue eyes, he realized he would do anything to make her happy. “I’d like to meet your parents.” Shawn said.
“Shawn,” Belle said. “I…Oh my…I’m afraid I don’t know what to say,” Belle said, obviously at a loss for words.
“That’s a first,” Shawn joked.
Belle smiled, in spite of herself. “Shawn, I love you for doing this – all of this, and I’d love to meet your parents,” Belle told him. Her face turned serious as she said, “But I don’t know if it would do any good to meet my father,” Belle admitted. “I don’t know why, but he doesn’t want me to be with you – he’s being totally irrational, and I don’t understand why,” Belle said.
Shawn took her hand in his and kissed it gently. “Honey, I think your father feels intimidated for some reason; you know, I’m not sure that intimidated is even the word that I’m looking for,” Shawn said. “But he doesn’t want you to be around me, because he probably still feels some guilt about JT – you being around me is just going to remind him of that,” Shawn explained. “Don’t ask me how I know that, I just do,” Shawn said.
“Well, I do know that he has never truly forgiven himself for what happened,” Belle said.
“If that’s the case, then he probably thinks that me and the rest of my family hate him, so he’s probably just acting this way as a defense mechanism,” Shawn said. “I mean, before I came to my senses, he was right – I did hate him, even though I don’t even know him,” Shawn said.
“Shawn I see what you’re saying, and I agree with you.” Belle said. “But I don’t see how meeting him is going to change his feelings – he’s a pretty stubborn man,” Belle said.
“I’m sure he is,” Shawn said. “Look, we’ll take it one step at a time. Let’s just make arrangements to meet with him first, and then we’ll take it from there,” Shawn said. He cupped her face in his hands. “I love you Belle, and I would do anything for you; I hope you know that,” Shawn said.
Belle nodded and gave him a small smile. “I do know that,” She whispered. “You telling me all of this has certainly convinced me,” She said.
“Good,” Shawn said, kissing her nose. He noticed Belle yawning and he grinned. “Don’t let me keep you up,” He joked.
“I’m sorry, it’s just been a rough day,” Belle said.
“I know.” Shawn said. “And I don’t want you to worry about this – we’ll fix everything, together,” Shawn said. “I’ll be here for you, every step of the way, and we’ll make your father realize that we love each other, and we don’t care about what happened in the past,” Shawn said. He changed his tone a bit as he looked at her seriously. “Despite what I said this afternoon, I plan on having you in my life for a long time Miss Black.”
Shawn nodded. “I don’t plan on ever letting you go.” Shawn said tenderly.
“Oh Shawn,” Belle whispered. They shared a brief but sweet kiss, and Belle sighed happily.
“You need to turn in, you’re exhausted.” Shawn said. “Come on, I’ll walk you to your room, and tuck you in,” Shawn joked.
“Okay,” Belle said. She could feel her eyelids grow heavy; she truly was tired, and she wanted nothing more than to lie down in her bed and sleep.
Shawn noticed how tired Belle was, and decided to carry her to the room. He was met with little protest from Belle, and when he arrived to her room, he set her down on the bed gently, and smiled when he saw that Belle had fallen asleep.
He pulled the covers up, and was surprised when he heard Belle call out his name. “No Shawn – don’t leave me,” She murmured.
“I’m not going anywhere,” Shawn said.
“Please Shawn – don’t…leave me…”
Shawn wasn’t sure if she was dreaming, but he didn’t want to leave her like this. He quickly took his shirt off as well as his socks, and climbed into her bed. He leaned over so that he was spooning her, and smiled when he heard Belle sigh contently as he hooked his arm over her, so that it rested on her stomach. He had no intention of leaving her when she was so vulnerable; he knew that he would have to leave early the next morning, so he could go home and change for work, but none of that mattered now.
All that mattered was Belle.
Chapter 26, Rated R, (for one part)
Belle was in her office the following Thursday afternoon, trying to read through some reports left on her desk. She knew she needed to concentrate on her work, but her mind kept drifting off to the situation with her father. It had been a few days since Belle had told her parent’s the truth about Shawn, and John still refused to speak to Belle.
She saw him everyday at the office, but other than a polite good morning, John barely said a word to her. He managed to stay away from her office, which was rather odd, since John always thought up of excuses to come and visit his Izzy B. It hurt Belle that he wasn’t doing that any more.
Belle had spoken with her mother, and Marlena told her she was still trying to get John to come around, but so far, hadn’t been successful. She told her daughter that John refused to speak to her about anything to do with the Brady family. Even though Marlena had tried numerous times to get her husband to open up about his feelings, it hadn’t worked.
Belle sighed as she thought about her graduation – it was tomorrow afternoon, and she was pleased that Shawn had changed his mind about coming. Marlena was still coming as well, but they didn’t know what John would do.
Belle wished that her father could be as understanding as her mother – Marlena had always been objective whenever a situation arose, and Belle was thankful for that. Belle had also told her brother Brady about Shawn, and he had taken the news well. He had been upset with his sister for not telling them sooner, but he was happy for his sister nonetheless.
“Don’t worry about Dad – he’ll come around eventually,” Brady had told her.
Belle hoped that her brother was right, but the more she thought about it, the less optimistic she was. Her father was a very stubborn man, and she couldn’t see him accepting Shawn in her life.
She remembered how stubborn Shawn had been, but thankfully, he had come around. She smiled when she recalled how tender he had been with her on Sunday night. She had been so down about everything, but once he stopped by, and talked to her, telling her that they would be together no matter what, Belle had felt herself come to life once again. She was also relieved to hear that Shawn was willing to try and get along with her father.
She had been so tired that night that Shawn had carried her to her bed, and slept next to her all night. She had been pleasantly surprised the next morning, when she had woken up and found Shawn lying next to her. She had smiled at him sleepily when she opened her eyes and found him watching her…
“Shawn?” She said, slowly opening her eyes, obviously shocked that Shawn was in her bed, staring at her.
“Yes sleepy head,” He said softly, brushing her hair away from her face.
“Did I fall asleep last night while you were here?” She asked, trying to remember.
“You did, but that’s okay – you were obviously tired,” Shawn said.
She glanced at his bear chest, and couldn’t help but smile lustfully. “So you, um, spent the night here, with me?” Belle asked hesitantly.
Shawn simply nodded.
“Oh wow,” Belle said.
Shawn laughed, and kissed her forehead. “You needed me last night, and I wasn’t about to leave you,” He said. His face turned serious for a moment. “I will always be here for you Belle, so you’d better get used to it,” He told her.
“Oh Shawn,” Belle said. She pulled him closer to her and their lips met for a sweet and sensual kiss. They both moaned as Shawn rolled Belle underneath him, kissing her neck eagerly.
It hadn’t taken much to ignite the flame between the two of them, but now that it had been lit, both knew they had to take this a step further. “Belle - oh Gosh, what you do to me,” He murmured, licking her earlobe seductively. “I want you so much,” He said breathlessly.
“Shawn, are you sure we should –Ohhhhh, don’t do that,” She pleaded, but her plea fell on dear ears – he had unbuttoned the top of her pyjamas, and Shawn’s lips had found their way down to her breasts, and he was licking and tasting them excitedly. The tension of the last twenty-four hours led to an explosion of emotions between the two of them, and they both needed to be with each other, to assure each other of their love and desire for one another.
They would both be late for work, yet they didn’t care. Clothes were thrown off in a hurry; Shawn quickly sheathed himself and entered Belle’s awaiting body, moaning her name as the two journeyed up to heaven together. They cried out each other’s name simultaneously, knowing that their feelings for each other had just been re-affirmed through this wonderful act of love.
~End of flashback~
Belle felt her cheeks turn red as she thought about how eager they had been with each other that morning – perhaps she should be embarrassed about the way she felt about Shawn, but she wasn’t. She felt it was totally natural to want him so much; and the best part was, he felt the same way. She could sense that, every time he kissed her, or touched her, or looked at her so tenderly. He had reassured her through his actions that he would always be there for her, no matter what.
It was so right to have these feelings for Shawn, and to want to be with him, and she wished she could make her father understand that.
On the weekend, she was planning on meeting Shawn’s parents – she was a little nervous, to say the least, but Shawn told her it would all work out fine.
The only person they had to worry about was her father, and Belle had no idea how she would ever get through to him.
The next day, Belle nervously prepared herself for her graduation. She was in one of the ready rooms at Salem University, and she adjusted her cap, hoping that she looked okay.
She was going to walk into the auditorium, shake hands with the Dean, take her degree, and it would be over – three years of hard work had finally paid off.
Belle hoped that her father had decided to show up – last she had spoken to her mother, she said he was dead set against going, knowing that Shawn Brady would be there. Marlene told her daughter that SHE would be there, no matter what her father decided to do.
Shawn had promised to show up, with a camera in hand, ready to take pictures of her. He had told her how proud he was of her, and he couldn’t wait to see her walk across the stage, and smiling proudly for everyone. He also wanted to be introduced to her family, if they all showed up, and Belle had agreed.
When it was time for her name to be called, she walked across the stage nervously, turning towards the crowd. She saw Shawn kneeling in front of the stage, with his camera ready. When he saw her walking across the stage, in her cap and gown, he felt his heart swell with love for her. He couldn’t believe how beautiful she looked, and he felt even more proud of her.
She smiled for him as she took her degree in her hand, and her eyes scanned the room, to see if she could find her family. She felt her heart stop beating when she noticed her parents sitting in the second row, next to Brady. Her father had shown up after all.
She became even more nervous when she noticed the way John’s eyebrow was arched – he was staring at Shawn, and he had obviously figured out who he was. Belle prayed that he would at least be civil to Shawn when the time came for Belle to introduce him.
After Belle had changed out of her cap and gown, she walked back to the auditorium, and found Shawn waiting for her in the hallway. She smiled she noticed a large white box in his hand. He had obviously bought her flowers, and she was touched.
“There’s the woman of the hour!” Shawn said, handing her the box.
“Oh Shawn, this is so sweet of you!” She squealed. She opened the box, and found a half a dozen red roses. “Thank you so much!” She said, kissing his cheek tenderly.
“You’re welcome.” Shawn said, smiling at her.
The couple turned around, surprised when they saw John, Marlena and Brady standing behind them. Belle looked at her mother, hoping she could find the strength to do this, and hoped that her father would be nice.
She cleared her throat, and took Shawn’s hand. “Mom, Dad, Brady - this is Shawn,” She said.
Marlena was the first to step forward, and she smiled warmly at Shawn. “Hello Shawn - I’m Marlena, and it’s so good to finally meet you,” She said, in a friendly voice.
Shawn found himself instantly liking Belle’s mother as he shook her hand. “It’s nice to meet you too – Belle tells me you’re a psychiatrist,” He said politely.
“That I am,” Marlena said.
Brady was the next to step forward and extend his hand to Shawn. “Good to meet you man,” Brady said.
Shawn nodded and turned towards John. Belle was devastated when John didn’t even offer his hand to Shawn as her mother and brother had.
“So you’re Shawn Brady,” John said, arching his eyebrows. “I wondered if we were ever going to meet the mystery man in Isabella’s life,” He said in a dry voice.
Shawn didn’t miss the tone in his voice, but he refused to respond to him. He simply nodded and pursued his lips tightly.
“Dad, we don’t need to start this,” Belle said. The last thing Belle wanted was to make a scene, and she prayed that her father didn’t say anything else to make her or Shawn upset.
“I didn’t start anything Izzy – you and your boyfriend are in control here – it’s not as though your parents have a say in anything,” John said mockingly.
Belle sighed and closed her eyes in frustration. It was better when he was giving her the silent treatment. She looked at her mother, who was equally frustrated. “John honey, where are your manners?” She said, obviously displeased with him.
“My manners?” John said. “Please Doc, don’t talk to me like I’m a child.” He said, looking at his wife in anger.
“Then stop acting like one.” Marlena said. She was trying to remain calm, but it wasn’t working. She could see that.
“Dad, don’t do this to Tink,” Brady said. “This is an important day for her,” Brady said, hoping he could get through to his father.
John said nothing, as he crossed his arms and looked down at Shawn, hoping to intimidate him. But it didn’t work; Shawn stared right back at him, with a look of confidence on his face. He wasn’t going to let John Black get to him, no matter how much he tried.
“Dad, please, let’s all try to get along – Shawn is willing to meet you halfway, I think you should do the same,” Belle said.
“Honey, he didn’t have to show up today - he could’ve been selfish, and remained home. But he didn’t, because he knew how important this was to Belle, just like you did.” Marlena said. “Honey, please,” Marlena said. “Don’t hurt our little girl.”
John looked at his wife in shock. “Don’t hurt our-“ He stopped and shook his head. “You’re unbelievable – all of you,” He said. He looked at Shawn and said, “I don’t know what you have done to my daughter, but I don’t like it - not one bit.”
“Done to your daughter?” Shawn said. “I’m sorry, I don’t follow you,” Shawn said, obviously confused.
“Before my daughter met you, she never kept anything from us – but it was so easy for her to keep your relationship a secret – anyone with a brain can see that it’s because of you; YOU wanted her to lie to us, and I don’t like that,” John said. “So what you’ve done to my daughter is change her into someone I don’t even know any more.”
“With all due respect Sir, Belle wasn’t coherence into lying to you – all right? She hated lying to you, but we felt it was the only thing we can do, considering the circumstances,” Shawn said. “And Belle hasn’t changed – she’s still the sweet and thoughtful woman that we all know her to be – nobody can change that,” Shawn said. Nobody missed the passion in his voice; he believed in Belle, there was no denying that.
“Like I believe anything that comes out of your mouth Brady,” John mumbled.
“Dad! Stop it!” Belle said. She hated this - she hated the way her father was acting, and she was determined to put a stop to it. “Look, I know why you’re upset, but you can’t talk to Shawn like this, and you can’t ignore me either,” Belle said. “For days, you’ve been giving me the silent treatment. Now you show up at my graduation, only to insult my boyfriend,” Belle said angrily.
“Belle, please - try to calm down,” Marlena said. She noticed that Belle was now shaking, and she touched her arm to try and get her attention. Belle finally looked at her mother, and Marlena felt her heart break when she noticed that her eyes were filled with tears.
“Izzy B, don’t you talk to me like that – I am still your father, no matter what this little punk has said to you,” John said.
Shawn didn’t like the feelings of discomfort and awkwardness that were floating around, and he knew that Belle was becoming more and more upset. He turned to look at her and said, “You know what? I was going to try and make peace today by offering to take everyone out to lunch – I thought we should all try and get along – for Belle’s sake, since we all love her,” Shawn said. He looked sideways at John and said, “Well, at least most of us love her,” He said.
“Why you little-“ John attempted to step closer to Shawn, but Brady held him back.
“Dad, what are you doing?” Brady said. He looked into his father’s eyes, and didn’t like what he saw – they were filled with rage, and he couldn’t understand why he was acting this way. “Dad, we all know why you’re a bit apprehensive about Belle dating Shawn, but my God, what happened was such a long time ago! You have to let it go!” Brady said. “Belle is a grown woman now, and like it or not, she is going to see Shawn,” Brady told him.
John scoffed at his son’s comments and turned to face the young couple. “Izzy B, you keep dating him, and pretty soon you won’t have me around any more,” John said.
“What? What are you talking about?” Belle said. She didn’t like where this was going, and she prepared herself for the worst.
“I’m saying that you can only have me in your life – as long as he’s not in it,” John said, gesturing towards Shawn. Belle felt her heart breaking at the way he was looking at Shawn, and she knew she had a hell of a battle ahead of her.
“Dad, don’t do this,” Belle said. “There’s no reason that we all can’t get along,” Belle told him.
“I’m afraid I have to disagree,” John said. “I don’t see us ever getting along, so make your choice Isabella – it’s either him, or me.” He said.
“Oh John, don’t say that to her, you’re breaking her heart,” Marlena said.
“Dad, you’re being unreasonable – let Tink live her own life.” Brady added.
Belle looked at her brother, and her mother, thankful that they were trying to talk some sense into her father. But it didn’t do any good – Belle knew that once her father made up his mind about something, he seldom changed it.
“Fine – Tink, live your own life – but don’t expect me to be a part of it,” John said coldly. Having said that, he turned on his heel and walked away, leaving Belle devastated.
Marlena was torn as to what to do next – did she try and comfort her daughter, or did she run after her husband and try and talk some sense into him? When she noticed Belle bursting into tears, she rushed over to her, hugging her tightly.
“Honey, he didn’t mean it; he couldn’t have,” Marlena said. “Your father loves you so much – he’s just confused,” Marlena said. She didn’t like making excuses for her husband, when she knew that he was in the wrong. He couldn’t tell Belle what to do, and she was furious with him for making her so miserable.
“Mom, what am I going to do?” Belle said. She pulled away from her embrace, and was comforted by the fact that Shawn was right behind her, rubbing her shoulders lightly. It was his way of telling her that he was there for her – no matter what.
“You leave everything to me,” Marlena said. “By the time I’m through with John Black, he’ll be eating out my hand,” She mumbled.
“Belle, don’t worry about it,” She said. “You two look so happy, and there’s no reason that you shouldn’t be.” Marlena told them. “Shawn, I want you to take my daughter out, and show her a good time. We all know she deserves it.” Marlena said.
“Mom’s right Belle,” Brady said. “Shawn - take her out, and have fun with each other.” He said, moving closer to his sister. He gave her a quick kiss and told them that he had to get going. “I have to meet my girlfriend in a bit – hey, why don’t the four of us get together – it’ll kind be like a double date.” Brady suggested. “I think it’ll be fun.”
Belle nodded. “Okay Brady.” She said. “Thanks for being such a great brother,” She said.
“Hey, you’re still my little Tink, no matter what,” Brady said, smiling at her encouragingly. “Don’t worry about Dad – he can’t be stubborn for the rest of his life,” He said.
“I hope you’re right.” Belle mumbled.
“Nice meeting you Shawn,” Brady said.
“Yeah, you too,” Shawn said. “See you soon.”
Brady left, and Marlena turned to hug her daughter once more. “I’m going to leave too my sweet girl, but I want you to promise me that you’re going to have a good time with Shawn – just clear your mind of everything, except for Shawn,” She said.
Belle nodded. “Okay Mom, thanks.” She said.
“Call me later on, just to let me know that you’re okay,” Marlena said.
“Shawn,” Marlena said. “It was a pleasure meeting you,” She said, shaking his hand once more. “You take care of my girl,” She said jokingly, winking at him.
Shawn smiled at her and said, “Don’t worry, I will.” He said.
Marlena walked away a moment later, and Shawn pulled Belle into his arms. She rested her head against his chest, immediately feeling comfort in his arms. “Are you okay?” He asked.
Belle nodded. “I will be as soon as we get out of here,” Belle said. “Come on, you promised to show me a good time,” She said, looking up at him.
“I did?” Shawn said.
Belle couldn’t help but giggle. “Yes,” She said, swatting his arm. “I want to go somewhere – anywhere, so I can just forget about what happened, even if it’s just for a little while.” Belle said.
“Okay,” Shawn said. He took her hand and said, “Let’s go.”
Chapter 27, Rated R/NC-17
“Shawn, thank you so much for taking me out today,” Belle said. They had just had a wonderful dinner, and Belle couldn’t help but notice that Shawn had been staring at her all night, with the same tender look in his eyes.
Shawn’s hand instantly reached across the table to take her hand in his own. His thumb stroked the back of her hand gently and he smiled tenderly at her. “You’re welcome,” He said softly.
Belle sighed happily. The two were at Chez Vous, where Shawn had decided to take her out for dinner. Belle had been there many times in the past, but this was her first time being there with Shawn.
After the couple had left the University together, they had gone back to Belle’s apartment to change for dinner. Shawn did his best to keep Belle’s mind off of her father, but he could see that their confrontation was still bothering her.
He almost shook his head as he thought about John Black. Finally, Shawn had come face to face with him, after all these years. He had always thought about what he was going to say to him - about how he was going to make him pay for what he had done to his little brother. But because of his love for Belle, and his determination to make things work, no matter what it cost him, Shawn hadn’t said a word.
Shawn had been more than willing to put his feelings aside; he wanted to make every effort to get along with Belle’s family, and he had been hoping that John would feel the same way.
He couldn’t have been more wrong.
John had been selfish, closed off, and very rude. He obviously had no regard for his daughter’s feelings, and that angered Shawn more than anything. When was John going to realize that Shawn was here to stay? Why couldn’t he at least TRY and get along with Shawn?
Shawn just didn’t understand, but he refused to say anything to Belle, because he knew she would become upset. But the way Shawn looked at it, if anyone should be cold and bitter, it should be Shawn. John was the one who had been responsible for putting JT in a wheelchair; John hadn’t done a minute of jail time – he had gotten off Scot-free. Shawn had been so hurt by that, but he had realized that it was time to let go of all these negative feelings; he would have to, if he were to have any sort of future with Belle.
Just thinking about Belle being happy had been enough for him to realize that John could be forgiven. But just when he had come to that conclusion, John had shown no interest in co-operating.
What was wrong with him?
Shawn sighed – perhaps he would never know. He couldn’t worry about that right now – he had to focus on Belle. He knew she wasn’t taking this well, and he was determined to be there for her, no matter what.
“Shawn, you didn’t have to order a bottle of champagne,” Belle said, glancing at the bottle in front of them.
“And why not? It’s not every day the love of my life graduates from University,” Shawn said, winking at her.
“Oh Shawn, you are so wonderful to me,” Belle said softly. No matter what was going on in her life, she could always count on Shawn to support her. “What did I do to deserve you?” She asked.
“What are you talking about?” Shawn said, frowning at her. “You shouldn’t say that – I’m the one who asks what I did to deserve you,” Shawn said.
“No wait Belle, let me finish,” Shawn said. “I think it’s important that you know something,” Shawn said.
“Okay,” Belle said. “What do you want to say?” She asked.
Shawn sighed, and squeezed her hand tightly. “I wanted to tell you how special you are to me,” Shawn said. He smiled warmly at her and said. “I don’t think you know how important you are to me,” He said.
“But Shawn, I do know,” Belle said. “I’m sorry, I know you don’t want me interrupting you, but I already know how much I mean to you – you proved it to me, when you told me you were going to give my father a chance,” Belle said. “And I know that wasn’t easy for you.” Belle said.
“It wasn’t Belle – I’m not going to sugar coat it,” He said. “It took a lot out of me to want to do this, but when I thought about you, and how happy I was going to make you, it didn’t seem so bad,” He admitted. “The truth is, I went and spoke to someone who’s very dear to me, about our situation,” He said.
“Oh?” Belle said her curiosity peaked. “Who was that?”
Shawn smiled. “My great grandmother, Alice Horton,” Shawn replied.
Belle’s eyes widened in surprised. “You mean - Alice Horton - as in the late Dr. Horton’s wife?” Belle asked, obviously pleased.
Shawn nodded. “So you’ve heard of my great grandfather?” He asked.
“Of course! My mother has been working at University Hospital for years,” Belle told him. “She used to report to Dr. Horton, when he was Chief of Staff,” Belle said.
“Really?” Shawn said. “Wow, I had no idea,” He murmured.
“So wow, you’re related to the Horton’s,” Belle said.
“I am a Horton, by my mom’s side – you see, my grandmother – Addie - was Tom and Alice’s child,” Shawn said proudly.
“That’s so neat Shawn,” Belle said. “So you’re close with Mrs. Horton?” Belle asked.
Shawn nodded. “I always have been,” Shawn said. “I could never keep anything from Gran, and she’s always been my confidant, believe it or not,” Shawn said.
“I think that’s sweet,” Belle said lovingly.
Shawn smiled at her. “Yeah well, she’s always there for me, when I need to talk, and when I went to speak with her a little while ago, she was all ears,” Shawn said. “She basically saw how much I loved you, and told me that it was time to let go of the past, and focus on my future – our future,” He said, correcting himself.
Belle smiled at him. “Oh Shawn, that was so wonderful of you,” She said quietly.
“Hey, I knew it would make you happy,” He said. “Once I realized that, it didn’t seem like such a sacrifice,” He told her.
Belle sighed. “So you finally come around, and we have to deal with my father’s stubbornness,” She said. It angered her when she thought how unreasonable her father had been earlier that day. “Shawn, I don’t know what to do about him,” She said. She was obviously frustrated, and it showed whenever Belle frowned.
“Belle, maybe we should just give him time to accept this,” Shawn said. “I guess it’s not easy for him – I mean, seeing me must remind him of what happened with my brother,” Shawn said.
“I think that’s what it is too,” Belle said. “You’re a reminder of something that my father has tried to forget – you remind him of the biggest mistake that he’s ever made,” Belle murmured.
Shawn nodded. “So, we’ll just give him time to come around. He can’t give you the silent treatment forever,” Shawn said.
“Wanna bet?” Belle said.
“Oh come on Belle, you’re still his daughter - he won’t turn his back on you,” Shawn said. “Eventually he’ll see that we’re in love,” Shawn said.
“I hope you’re right,” Belle said. “But I still have a bad feeling about this,” Belle admitted.
“Belle, try to be a little optimistic,” Shawn said. “Let’s think about something else to cheer you up,” Shawn said. “Like going back to the boat after dinner, and REALLY celebrating your graduation,” He said, winking at her.
Belle blushed and smiled at him. “I like the sounds of that,” Belle said.
“So do I.” Shawn said huskily.
He squeezed her hand tightly, and lifted her hand to his lips, kissing it gently. “I love you so much Belle – and I want to spend the rest of tonight, showing you how much,” Shawn whispered. “Will you come back to the boat with me?” He asked, his brown eyes turning darker as he though about what he had in mind for her.
Belle felt her heart pounding in excitement when she thought about the night ahead of them – she knew she would go with Shawn, and spend the night with him at the boat. She would go anywhere with him – that’s what a woman did when she was in love.
“Let’s finish up here, so we can get going,” Belle whispered.
“Oh baby, I was hoping you’d say that,” He growled.
“Just hurry Shawn,” Belle said. She dropped her eyes, and lowered her voice as she leaned closer to him across the table. “I want you to love me, and make me forget about everything,” Belle said huskily. “All I want to think about is you, and how much you love me,” Belle said.
Shawn swallowed nervously as he felt his manhood spring to life. He quickly turned his head the other way and called out in a hoarse voice, “Cheque please!”
Belle couldn’t help but giggle – she knew she could count on Shawn to help her through this. It was at that moment that she decided to forget about all her troubles – she wanted to focus on her relationship with Shawn, and a few minutes later, they were on their way down to the Pier.
As they entered the Fancy Face II, Belle felt herself become dizzy with desire as Shawn kissed her neck eagerly; her back was turned to him as his hands pulled the bothersome clothes away from her sweet body. Belle threw her head back, and allowed herself to become immersed in Shawn’s kisses.
Shawn spun her around so that she was now facing him, and he planted his lips along her neck, and cupped her breasts, moaning her name as he slowly led them towards the bedroom.
Belle’s hands were restless as she peeled his clothes away from his body; she didn’t have time to admire his chiseled body, because Shawn was already urging her to lie down on the bed, and Belle eagerly complied.
A moment later, Shawn had sheathed himself and was entering her, moaning her name passionately.
Belle spread her legs wide for him, grasping his shoulders as she felt her peak quickly approaching.
She called out Shawn’s name breathlessly as she peaked, not once, but three times. As Shawn felt her walls clench around his manhood, he felt his own peak approaching, and he collapsed on top of her moments later.
They were both finding it difficult to breath as Shawn slowly lifted his head up to stare at Belle’s flushed face. He brushed her hair away from her face gently, and smiled when he noticed the sweat on her forehead. He impulsively leaned forward and kissed her, and Belle sighed happily.
“Did I tire you out baby?” Shawn asked, continuing to stroke her hair gently.
“No more than I tired you out,” She purred.
He grinned at her and said; “You do realize we’re perfect for each other, don’t you? No one knows how to make me feel so complete,” Shawn said affectionately.
“Shawn, it’s the same way for me,” She said. She reached up with her hands and cupped his face. “I love you so much,” She said. “I can’t imagine being with anyone else this way,” She murmured.
“You’d better not!” Shawn said, raising his eyebrow at her as he continued to lie on top of her. “Maybe I should move,” He said, as he tried to roll away from her. He was surprised when Belle stopped him.
“No, don’t,” She whispered. “You’re not crushing me, so I don’t want you to move,” She said.
Shawn smiled down at her once more. “Okay, you’re the boss,” He said.
“I am?” She said, a twinkle forming in her eye.
Shawn felt his heart bursting with joy when he saw how happy she was. He was glad to help her keep her mind off of her father, but he knew that sooner or later they would have to deal with him.
He wondered how much longer John could go on ignoring Belle, and not acknowledge their relationship…surely he would come around, wouldn’t he? Shawn hoped so, because he couldn’t stand the thought of John not speaking to Belle because of him. Despite what Shawn felt about John, he was still Belle’s father, and he would never want to cause friction between father and daughter.
“Belle, I think we need to talk,” Shawn said. “I’m sorry, I’m just going to lie down here,” He said, rolling off of her. He almost laughed when Belle groaned, but once he covered them with a bed sheet, he encouraged Belle to snuggle up to him.
“Mmm, Shawn I feel so safe in your arms,” She said. “I could stay here forever,” She admitted to him.
“I don’t a problem with that,” Shawn said softly.
“What did you want to talk about?” Belle asked.
“It’s about your father,” Shawn said. As soon as Shawn said that, he felt Belle tense up immediately. “Belle, I’m sorry, but I think this is something that needs to be said,” Shawn said.
Belle nodded. “Okay.”
“Now, I don’t like the way he’s been acting – I wish he could be a little bit open minded about this, but I don’t see that happening any time soon,” Shawn said. “That’s why something has to be done,” He said.
“Shawn, what are you trying to say?” Belle asked, looking at him. She didn’t like where this was going, and she prayed she was wrong about what he was getting at.
“Well, I’d hate to see you and your father drift apart – because of me,” Shawn said. “So maybe we should, I don’t know, just for a little while, maybe we shouldn’t-“
“NO!” Belle shouted. She sat up from bed, and made sure the sheet was wrapped around her. “I knew you were going to say that, but let me tell you, you and I are NOT going to break up over this!” Belle exclaimed. Her eyes filled with tears as she tried to calm herself down. “Shawn, we just got through admitting how much we love one another, and now you want to break up with me!”
“Belle, I don’t want to break up with you – but maybe we don’t have a choice here,” Shawn said. He didn’t like this – but he didn’t feel like he had a choice.
“You always have a choice Shawn,” Belle mumbled. She wiped her tears away with the back of her hand, and took a deep breath. “Look, I know what we’re going through isn’t easy, but I have to believe that my father is going to come around – he has no choice. And if he doesn’t Shawn, I’ll deal with it - we’ll deal with it, TOGETHER,” Belle said. She made sure to be confidant and firm in her decision, not allowing Shawn any room for doubt.
Shawn sighed. “Belle, I could never forgive myself for coming between you and your father,” Shawn said, hoping he could make her understand.
“And I’d never forgive my father for coming in between you and me,” Belle told him. “So you’re not gaining anything by breaking up with me,” She said.
Shawn sighed. “I guess not,” He mumbled. He reached out for her, and encouraged her to snuggle up to him once again. “Baby, I’m sorry - I didn’t mean to hurt you,” He whispered. “I was only trying to save your relationship with your father. I know how much he means to you, and I hate that he’s treating you this way all because of me,” Shawn explained.
“I know Shawn, but breaking up isn’t the solution,” Belle said. “I’m not giving into him – not like this,” Belle said. “He’s just going to have to realize that you and are going to be together, whether he likes it or not,” Belle said.
Shawn turned her head so that she was facing him, cupping her face gently. “Baby, are you sure about this? Because I think we should stay away from each other – just for a little bit – to see if you can patch things up with your father. I’ll do it, you know – I’ll stay away from you. It’ll be hard, but I’ll do it if it would make you happy,” He told her.
Belle sighed as she looked into the eyes of the man she loved. He was so sincere about all of this, and she had no doubt that he would stay away from her, if that’s what she wanted. But she couldn’t imagine being away from Shawn, and she knew there was no way she would go along with his idea.
“Shawn, I love you,” She whispered, pulling his lips closer to hers. They met for a brief kiss and when Shawn opened his mouth to say something, Belle swallowed his words by kissing him again. This time, her tongue emerged and entered his mouth, going on a wild search for his tongue. When they met, it was electrifying, as they engaged in hot dance that made Belle weak in the knees.
She pulled Shawn’s body closer to her, and moaned when their chests crashed together – her bare breasts against his own bare chest resulted in the most intense feelings for the both of them. She moved so that she was now straddling Shawn, and she kicked the sheets away as she leaned forward and continue to attack his lips with her own. She didn’t give Shawn a chance to think – didn’t even give him time to breath, as she leaned towards the nightstand, and took a small foil package out of the box that was lying there.
She ripped open the foil packet and helped him put it on; once he was finished, she straddled him once again, and guided his manhood towards her core.
Belle sat up, and rolled her hips erotically, gasping when she felt Shawn reach up with his hands and touch her breasts eagerly.
“Oh Shawn,” She moaned.
“Belle,” He said breathlessly. He watched her through hooded eyes as she threw her head back, giving into her orgasm and crying his name out. “Damn woman,” he cursed. “What are you doing to me?”
He didn’t get an answer from her; she merely continued to move her hips, and Shawn found his own orgasm approaching as he cried out her name a moment later.
Much later, Belle lay on her side, as Shawn gently stroked her skin, kissing her gently on her back as he spooned her.
“I don’t want you to stay away from me.”
That caused Shawn to smile.
“I’m not going anywhere baby,” He said.
Before Belle closed her eyes, she said, “Good.”
A month later
“Dad, we need to talk,” Belle said as she walked into her father’s office early one morning. John had been ignoring her for the last month, and Belle had had enough.
“What can I do for you Izzy B?” John asked, raising his eyebrow at her. “Is there a problem with the fall line?” He asked casually.
“No Dad, there’s no problem with it, and you know it,” Belle said. “You can’t keep ignoring me, and its time we talked about Shawn,” She said, crossing her arms.
John turned to his desk, and sat down. “We have nothing to say about the matter,” John said. He pretended to be occupied with the paperwork in front of him, clearly indicating that the topic was not open for discussion.
Belle walked towards him, and pulled the papers away from him. “Oh yes we do – we have a LOT to say about ‘the matter’.” Belle said angrily. “You can’t keep pretending that Shawn is not a part of my life, because he is,” Belle said.
“Isabella, you know my feelings on this,” John said, trying to keep himself calm. “I don’t want to discuss this with you,” He said. He stood up from his chair, and walked over to his window, pretending to admire the view.
“Dad, you can’t keep treating me like this,” Belle said. She sighed. “Look, Shawn is very important to me, and he’s very special – he’s not some crush or something that’s going to just fade away. Our feelings are real for one another,” Belle said.
John turned to look at her in shock. “What are you saying?” He asked, his face filled with concern.
“I’m not saying a thing – I’m only telling you how it is,” Belle said calmly.
“Have you two discussed marriage?” John asked, hoping her answer would be no.
“No, we haven’t – not yet anyway,” She added.
“Belle, you’re too young to be thinking about marriage,” John said.
Belle scoffed at him. “Excuse me? I’m 23, I’m not young at all,” Belle told her father.
“Age has nothing to do with it,” He said. “Marriage is a long lasting commitment, and you’re not ready to make that,” He told her.
“Dad, I think I am - and you can’t do a thing to stop me,” She told him.
John shook his head. “If you marry Shawn, it’ll be over,” He told her.
“What are you talking about?” Belle said. “You’re not making any sense Dad. First of all, I told you - Shawn and I haven’t discussed marriage, but if he were to suggest it, I’ll tell you right now, I’d marry him in a heartbeat,” She said confidently. “I love Shawn – I have never made a secret of that, and he will be in my life forever,” Belle said. Her face softened. “Daddy, he’s such a wonderful guy – if you’d only let go of your anger and resentment, you’d see that…”
“Never,” John said, interrupting her. “I will never let go.” John said, his voice filled with emotions. “Don’t you understand Isabella – every time you mention his name, and every time you tell me that you’re going to be with him forever – it just makes things harder for me,” John said quietly.
Belle looked at her father closely – his eyes were filled with tears, and she walked closer to him, putting her hand on his shoulder. “Dad, I had no idea you felt this way,” She whispered. “Is it because of JT?” She asked gently.
“Of course it is!” He snapped. His eyes were filled with rage and anger, but Belle saw something else – Belle saw regret. “Every time I hear Shawn’s name, or even think about him, it reminds me of the biggest mistake I ever made!” John said. “It was a stupid mistake, and that boy never should’ve been hit! I never should’ve driven drunk!” John exclaimed. He stepped away from Belle and continued. “You don’t understand what it’s like, knowing that you’ll have to live with the knowledge that because of something stupid, because of a bad choice I made, a young boy will never walk again – I never want you to know what that feels like,” John said, in a low voice.
“Oh Dad, I suspected that you felt this way, but I had no idea just how deeply effected you were about this,” She said. “What happened was so long ago, and I know the Brady’s know how sorry you are,” Belle said.
“Knowing that doesn’t make me feel better,” John said. “Me telling the Brady’s how sorry I am won’t help, and them knowing how sorry I am doesn’t help either; nothing does, cause I’m going to carry these feelings for the rest of my life,” John said.
“Dad, you always taught me that you have to forgive and forget, and it’s time that you realize the Brady’s have already done that,” She said gently, trying to reassure him.
“That’s not going to help,” John said. “And that’s why I’ll never accept Shawn into this family.” He said sternly.
“Even if the Brady’s have already accepted me into theirs?” She asked, her voice breaking; she was on the verge of tears, and desperately trying to stay in control of her emotions.
John looked at her in surprise.
“That’s right Dad – the Brady’s – Hope, Bo, and JT – they’ve all met me and they know the truth, and they’re fine with it,” Belle said. “And they’re not bitter or anger – you have enough of those feelings for everyone,” Belle added.
“Isabella, please - don’t do this,” John said, as he turned away from her.
“Do what Dad? Tell you how wonderful the Brady’s have been to me? Or should I tell you that they don’t care what my last name is – they like me for who I am, not for what my last name is,” Belle said.
“I’m sorry Belle,” John said sadly. “I wish I could be like the Brady’s, and embrace Shawn, but I can’t – it hurts too much, because I keep thinking about what happened,” John admitted.
“So that’s it? That’s the reason you don’t want to have anything to do with Shawn? That’s why you won’t accept him?” Belle asked.
“It’s why I can’t accept him,” John said, making sure to emphasize the ‘can’t’.
“No, it’s why you WON’T accept him,” Belle said. “I can’t believe you’re being so selfish,” Belle said to him.
“Wait just a second here,” John said. “No one is being selfish here, okay. I just told you my reasons for not accepting Shawn. You can still see him, just don’t expect me to be a part of your life – not like before anyway,” John said.
Belle shook her head. “All my life, I’ve looked up to you,” Belle said in a small voice. “You’ve always taught my right from wrong – you’ve always showed me that its’ not right to pass judgment on people – not without just cause anyway,” Belle said. “All of it was a lie.” Belle said. Belle felt a tear fall freely from her eye. “I can’t believe I’m going to say this, but I’m so disappointed in you Dad,” Belle said, her voice breaking. She dissolved into tears, and quickly made her way out of her father’s office.
John quickly ran after her, and grabbed her arm. “Izzy B, wait,” He said.
But Belle refused to listen to him. “No Dad, you’ve made your feelings clear. I understand why you feel the way you do. I don’t agree with your feelings, but I understand them,” Belle said. She wiped her tears away, and stood up tall. “But you must understand this - Shawn is not going anywhere, and I’m not going to stop seeing him because of issues that you have with your conscience,” Belle said. “He’s a part of me now, and nothing is going to keep us apart,” Belle said confidently.
John exhaled slowly. “Fine. I understand. I don’t accept it, but we’ll just have to keep our distance,” John said.
“If that’s the way you feel, so be it,” Belle said. “I never had a flare for dramatics Dad, so if you won’t accept Shawn, I’m not going get on my knees and beg you – I shouldn’t have to- you can see how happy I am with Shawn,” Belle said. “If you don’t want to, that’s your decision,” Belle said. She glanced at her watch. “Now, if you’ll excuse me - I have a meeting,” Belle said.
She left her father standing there in the middle of the hallway, not even turning her head back once.
Once she was in her office, she sat in her chair, and felt her insides shaking. She hated confronting her father, but it was something that should have been done a while ago.
She tried to focus on happy thoughts, and immediately, she thought of Shawn. Things between her and Shawn were going great – they were spending more and more time together, and they were determined to be together, no matter what her father said.
She wished things could be different – after all, Marlena and Brady had been getting along with Shawn just fine. Even though John refused to see Shawn, Marlena made an effort to get to know the boy who was making her daughter happy. And Brady was thrilled that Shawn was able to put up with Belle’s ‘antics’ as he like to put it.
Belle thought it was a shame about her father’s feelings, especially since she had met the Brady’s, and they had been nothing but wonderful to her from the first day she walked into their home. She had been over for dinner almost every week for the last month, and they hadn’t cared in the least that Belle was John Black’s daughter. All they cared about was the fact that Belle was making Shawn happy - that’s all that mattered to them.
Now if only John had the same mentality, Belle thought. She knew he wouldn’t change his mind – not unless anything earth shattering happened, so Belle decided to accept his decision. She could only hope that one day, John would come around.
In the mean time, she was going to focus on her life with Shawn. He hadn’t talked to her about marriage – not yet anyway, but Belle had a feeling that things were getting serious between the two of them. First of all, the two were seeing each other almost every day. While they were at work, they called each other constantly, and he was spending more and more time with her at her apartment.
She also noticed that he was bringing more and more clothes over to her apartment, and storing them in her closet or her dresser drawers – not that she had a problem with it – far from it! It thrilled Belle to see Shawn doing little things that showed just how serious he was about her.
Belle had been pleasantly surprised one afternoon when she had come home and found her refrigerator filled with groceries. When she asked Shawn about that, he casually told her that he had gone and done the grocery shopping for her.
Then she had gone into her bathroom one morning, and found his shaving items in the medicine cabinet. Shawn had walked in a moment later, and had said, “Well, I spend more time here than at home, so I figured I should have the essentials.” He had said, smiling at her. “I hope you don’t mind.”
Belle shook her head. She had told him that she didn’t mind at all. In fact, it was exactly what she wanted. Shawn spending more and more time with her was exactly what she needed right now. She prayed every day that Shawn would pop the question, even though she knew she shouldn’t get her hopes up. Maybe she was expecting too much from Shawn – after all, they had been together for under a year – maybe he wasn’t ready to make that type of commitment?
She wasn’t sure, but that didn’t stop her from dreaming of the perfect proposal from him. There was nothing more than Belle wanted than to be Mrs. Shawn Douglas Brady – she could picture herself, standing in front of Shawn, him down on one knee, asking her to be his wife, and Belle - with tears in her eyes, saying yes to him, without hesitation.
She loved him so much – she would do anything for him, and she wanted to live her life with him by her side. Nothing would please her more.
Later that evening, Belle was at her apartment, waiting for Shawn to come over. They were planning on spending the evening together, in front of the television – Shawn was bringing a movie over, and Belle couldn’t wait.
She was determined not to let the conversation she had with her father earlier that day ruin her night with Shawn, but as soon as he walked into her apartment, he knew something was on her mind.
“What is it Belle?” He asked, as they sat down at the kitchen table.
“Nothing – why do you ask?” She said, pretending to concentrate on her food.
“Belle, something happened today, and if I was a betting man, I’d say it had something to do with your father,” Shawn said. When he saw her avoiding his gaze, it all became clear to him. He reached across the table and held her hand tightly. “Belle, what happened honey?” He asked.
Belle sighed. “Oh nothing – he was just being impossible, but what else is new,” She mumbled.
“What did he say to you to make you so upset?” Shawn asked gently.
“Basically that he’s never going to accept us as a couple,” Belle told him. She put her fork down and sighed once again. “And he told me that as long as you and I are together, he doesn’t want to have anything to do with me,” She said.
“He really said that?” Shawn asked.
“Not is so many words, but that’s what he meant,” Belle told him.
“Oh Belle, baby - I’m so sorry,” Shawn said. He dropped his napkin and moved his chair back from the table. He patted his lap and gestured for Belle to sit down on it.
Belle didn’t even argue with him; she walked over and sat down, wrapping her hands around his neck and sighing happily as he pulled her closer to him. He stroked her hair slowly, and whispered words of love and encouragement in her ear. “Baby, it’ll be all right – John will come around.” Shawn said.
Belle looked at him and shook her head. “I don’t think so Shawn – Dad is not the type to give in easily,” Belle said. “I just wish he could see how happy we are,” Belle said.
“Me too sweetheart,” Shawn said. “But you can’t let yourself get upset over this – I don’t like seeing you unhappy,” Shawn told her, as she kissed her cheek lightly.
“I don’t want to be upset, but I can’t help it,” Belle said. She sighed as she stood up. “I just can’t help thinking, what if we…” She stopped, realizing what she was about to say, and wanted to die. How could she even think about saying that out loud? She shook her head. She was losing it.
“What if we what Belle?” Shawn asked, standing up. “Finish your sentence,” Shawn said, the corners of his mouth turning into a sexy smile.
“No, it’s nothing, really,” Belle said, but even as she said the words, she knew she didn’t sound too convincing.
“Belle, what are you thinking?” Shawn asked, walking towards her and rubbing her shoulders. “I want to know what’s going on in that beautiful head of yours,” He whispered.
“Shawn,” She moaned, closing her eyes as she felt Shawn massaging her. “Oh, this feel so good – this is just what I need,” She said.
“I know it,” Shawn murmured. “Now tell me, what were you going to say,” He said.
She turned around so she could face him. “Oh Shawn, I was just thinking - I mean, what if, you know, we decided to, not now of course, but maybe in a year, or maybe in a few years, we decide to get…serious,” Belle said. She bit her lip, and hoped that she wasn’t looking like a fool, because she certainly felt like one.
“Belle, we already are serious,” Shawn said. He was wondering where she was going with this, and he couldn’t wait to hear it.
“I know, but what if someday we decide we want to…get married,” Belle said. “What if we decided to spend the rest of our lives together,” Belle said. She sighed sadly. “I can’t help thinking about a future with you Shawn; I don’t mean to pressure you in any way, so don’t think that I’m expecting a proposal,” She told him. “But what if we do decide to get married – what will my dad do?” Belle said.
“You’re afraid your father wouldn’t show up for your own wedding?” Shawn asked, obviously in shock.
Belle nodded. “I’ve always had this picture in my head of my father walking me down the aisle, and kissing my forehead as he gives me away,” Belle said softly. Her eyes were filled with tears as she continued. “Shawn, I won’t lie to you – if you wanted to marry me tomorrow, I would say yes,” She admitted. “I love you so much, and I can’t imagine spending my life with anyone else – I can’t imagine feeling these feelings for anyone else,” She told him.
Shawn smiled at her tenderly as he cupped her face gently. “My sweet Belle,” He murmured. “It’s the same way for me,” He whispered.
Belle smiled through her tears. “And that thrills me Shawn, that you feel the same way, so now I’m thinking about us getting married – sharing our lives together, and my father won’t want to have anything to do with me,” Belle said.
“How do you know that?” Shawn said. “Maybe if we get married, he’ll have no choice but to accept us – accept me in your life,” Shawn said.
“What?” Belle said, frowning at him.
“Well, think about it – if you and I got married – he wouldn’t have a choice,” Shawn said.
“Shawn, you’re crazy,” Belle said, her heart pounding excitedly. But even as she said that, she couldn’t help but think there was some truth to his words.
“Listen Belle – I love you,” He said, grasping both of her hands. “And I know you love me – we love each other, and I know that I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” He told her.
“Shawn, I’m sorry that I bought this up, because now it looks like that I’m pressuring you into proposing to me-“
“You’re not,” Shawn said. “I’ve been thinking about this for a while now, and it’s something that I’ve wanted to do,” He said tenderly. He leaned forward and placed a light kiss on her full lips. “I love you Isabella Black,” He whispered. “And that’s why I think we should make it official,” He said.
Belle blinked in surprise. She must be hearing things. She cleared her throat and said, “Shawn, are you saying that you want us to-
“Get married?” Shawn finished for her. He nodded. “Yes – that’s exactly what I’m saying; I want us to get married – tonight.” Shawn said.

“Belle - did you hear me?” Shawn asked, when he didn’t get a response from Belle.
“I’m sorry,” Belle said, trying to think clearly. “But it’s the funniest thing,” She mumbled incoherently. “I could’ve sworn that you just asked me to marry you.”
“I did ask you to marry me – I asked you to marry me tonight,” Shawn repeated, stepping closer to her.
He cupped her face and smiled at her affectionately. “Belle, I can’t think of anything that would make me happier than having you as my wife,” He whispered. “Please, say you’ll marry me,” He said.
Belle felt as though she would fall at any moment, so she held onto Shawn’s shoulders for support. “Shawn, you’re blowing me away,” She murmured. She shook her head. “I must be dreaming, because there is no way this can be happening,” She said.
“It’s not a dream,” Shawn assured her. He kissed her nose gently. “I want you to be my wife – I didn’t exactly plan on this, so I don’t have a ring, but I’m sure we can work something out,” He said.
“So you’re being spontaneous, is that it?” Belle asked, stepping away from him. “Because I can’t find any other explanation for it,” Belle told him.
Shawn sighed. This wasn’t going to be easy – he could see that. “Look Belle, I’ll admit, I didn’t come over here tonight, thinking about this – it just came to me, in the heat of the moment,” Shawn admitted. “But I know this is right Belle – we belong together; you know it, and I know it,” Shawn said.
Belle’s heart raced as she heard Shawn admitting his feelings to her. She wanted to believe him, because she wanted to tell him yes – she wanted to be his wife. But she had to make sure that he was sure about what they were doing. “Shawn, you’re going to wake up in the morning, and realize what a huge mistake you made,” She mumbled, making herself busy with the kitchen table. She cleared the dishes, and put them in her sink, trying not to take notice of the fact that Shawn’s eyes were glued to her.
“Belle, I know what you’re thinking,” He said. He leaned against the kitchen counter with his elbow, and watched her as she worked. “You’re afraid that these feelings of commitment I have are going to go away,” He said.
Belle stopped and turned to him for a brief moment. She looked at him, and crossed her arms across her chest. “Bingo.” She said.
Shawn couldn’t help but smile at her. “Belle, it’s not like that. I’ve been thinking about marriage, and our future for a long time now – I just haven’t said anything, that’s all,” He told her.
Belle felt her body tremble with excitement. “What? Are you serious?” She asked. “Please Shawn Douglas, tell me you’re not joking with me – my heart couldn’t take it,” She whimpered. She placed her hands on either side of the sink and breathed deeply, not believing what Shawn was admitting to her.
“Belle,” Shawn said, walking over to her. He hooked his arms around her slender waist, and pulled her body up against his. His hands brushed through her blonde hair affectionately, and he kissed the side of her face. “I’m not lying to you,” He murmured into her ear. “I want to marry you, and I hope you say yes,” Shawn said. “And I want to marry you tonight,” He added.
“Oh Shawn,” She said, turning around so she was facing him. Her hands touched each side of his face gently and she sighed. “Do you really mean it?” She asked hopefully.
Shawn nodded. “I mean it,” He whispered.
“I’m crazy for even considering this,” She murmured.
“But that’s what makes this all the more fun!” Shawn exclaimed.
Belle laughed. “Oh Shawn, if you only knew how long I’ve wanted to hear you say those words, and now to hear you saying them - it seems almost unreal,” She admitted. “But I’d be lying if I said I’m not considering it,” She added.
Shawn’s face brightened. “You are?”
“So what’s stopping you?” He asked. “You know that I love you, don’t you?”
“Yes you know that I love you, or yes you’ll marry me,” Shawn said.
“Yes I love you, and yes, I’ll marry you,” Belle said tenderly. “I would love to be your wife Shawn Douglas Brady,” She said.
“Oh Belle,” Shawn said, pulling her close to share a sweet and tender kiss with her. When he pulled away, he pressed his forehead against hers. “I love you so much Belle,” He whispered.
“I love you too Shawn,” She replied.
“You’ve made me the happiest man alive,” He told her. He let go of her, and starting pacing around the kitchen excitedly. “Okay, here’s what we’re going to do,” Shawn said. “We’ll pack a few things, and we’ll head to Nevada,” Shawn said.
“Nevada?” Belle said.
“Yes – so we can get married,” Shawn said.
“Shawn, why do we have to go to Nevada?” She asked in confusion.
“So we can elope – I meant what I said Belle – I want to marry you – tonight,” Shawn said. “What do you say?” He asked.
“Okay.” Belle said, without thinking. She knew there was no point in thinking about the consequences – she wanted this just as much as Shawn did.
“But Shawn, we don’t have to go to Nevada – we can find plenty of people to marry us right here in Illinois,” Belle said.
“Yeah – I guess you’re right.” Shawn said. “I never thought of that,” He murmured.
“I’m sure we can find one of places that are opened 24 hours – we just have to drive for a bit, that’s all.” Belle said.
“Okay, so let’s take out the phone book, and do some searching!” Shawn exclaimed.
Two hours later, Shawn and Belle were standing before a Justice of The Peace, preparing to exchange their wedding vows. Belle still couldn’t believe they were doing this – it was unlike her to do these types of things, but she knew in her heart that she was doing the right thing. She loved Shawn, and at this point in time, she didn’t even care that she didn’t have her family around her.
Belle had changed into a simple white skirt, with a matching blouse, and had lifted her hair up into a French twist. She had purchased a bouquet just before she walked into the Justice of the Peace’s office, and was holding it nervously.
Shawn had changed into a pair of black slacks, and a simple white dress shirt. He looked devastatingly handsome, and Belle couldn’t believe that in a matter of minutes, he was going to be her husband.
They waited patiently for the couple in front of them to finish, and Belle could feel her hands becoming sweaty. She was nervous, but that was to be expected. She knew they would get mixed reactions from their families, but she didn’t care about that right now. While they had been in the car together, Shawn and Belle had decided to live together in Belle’s apartment. Belle would continue to work at Basic Black, and Shawn had decided to finish his final semester at Salem University in the fall, while still working at the Brady Pub.
When it was finally their turn, the young couple stood in front of each other, their faces showing their obvious love and respect for one another. They had managed to buy a ring at the gift shop, but Shawn promised he would buy her something much more beautiful once they returned to Salem.
They exchanged their vows, and both were surprised when they felt their eyes filling with tears. Such simple words were being said, but they were meaningful, and both knew they would abide by their vows to each other.
“I can’t believe we’re married!” Belle said, a few moments later. It was the middle of the night – just past 2 in the morning, and the couple were in Shawn’s car, driving to a nearby hotel.
“I can’t believe it either,” Shawn murmured. “Wow, we’re married,” He said. He turned to look at Belle briefly and smiled at her. “I’m so lucky,” He whispered.
Belle shook her head. “No Shawn – I’m the lucky one,” She said. She leaned closer to him and kissed his cheek. “Now hurry up and get us to that hotel, so we can BOTH get lucky,” She purred.
“I like the sounds of that,” Shawn growled.
Belle giggled as Shawn stepped on the gas, and within minutes, they were pulling into the Parking Lot of the Holiday Inn.
“I’m sure we’ll find a room at the last minute,” Shawn said, as they made their way in.
Sure enough, the couple was given a room, with a King Sized bed, and a complementary bottle of champagne, once Shawn showed the clerk their marriage certificate.
“This is so exciting,” Belle squealed, as they walked into their room. She turned on the lights, and set her bouquet of flowers down on the table in front of her.
“It is exciting, isn’t it,” Shawn murmured, as he wrapped his hands around her waist from behind and nibbled on her ear.
“Shawn, stop!” Belle squealed.
“Why?” Shawn asked, his lips touching her sweet neck. “You taste so good,” He said. His hands wandered to the back of her skirt, where he found the zipper and pulled it down slowly. He gasped when she turned around and her skirt fell around her ankles, revealing a pair of white thong panties.
“Oh wow Belle,” Shawn murmured.
“See anything you like, Mr. Brady?” She purred.
Shawn nodded. “Oh yes, do I ever, Mrs. Brady,” He said, his hands reaching for the buttons on her blouse and quickly unbuttoning it.
“Oh, you just called me Mrs. Brady – say it again!” She pleaded, as her hands became restless. She had his shirt and pants off within minutes, and stared at the tent in his boxers shamelessly.
“Oh Mrs. Brady – what you do to me,” He murmured, rolling off her panties. They were both naked, and Shawn smirked at her. “Are you ready for me, Mrs. Brady?”
Belle nodded. “You know I am,” She said. She walked over to the bed and lay down, spreading her legs apart. She crooked her finger at him, and smiled at him seductively. “Come here, and show me how happy you are Shawn Douglas,” She said, raising her eyebrows at him.
In moments, he was eagerly pressing himself between her thighs, moaning her name and gasping for breath as her walls clenched around his manhood.
“Damn Belle,” He said, as he felt his peak approaching. He felt his body dripping with sweat, but he didn’t care at that moment – all he cared about was pleasing and being pleased by the beautiful creature who lay beneath him, giving him her whole body and soul.
“Oh Shawn,” She cried. She was releasing a third time, and that ignited Shawn’s own release.
“Belle, baby, ohhhhhhhh,” He murmured.
They lay in each other’s arms a few moments later, breathless and trying to regain their composure. Belle summoned enough strength to pull the bed sheet around their sweating bodies.
“Taking care of your husband?” Shawn mumbled, his eyes half closed.
“Damn right,” Belle replied, smiling at him.
“Come here,” He whispered. He lifted his arm, and gestured for her to lay her head against his chest. Belle eagerly complied and sighed as she felt Shawn’s warm skin against her cheek.
“I’m so happy Shawn,” She mumbled sleepily. “I’m going to be the best wife ever.” She said.
“And I’m going to be the best husband ever – at least, I’ll try,” He said jokingly.
Belle yawned. “I’m sorry Shawn – I’m so tired, I think we should sleep now.” She said.
“I couldn’t agree more,” Shawn said.
They were asleep a few moments later, smiling as they realized it was their first night sleeping together as husband and wife.
The next day, Belle and Shawn were sitting in the Black living room. They had already been to the Brady home earlier that day, telling Shawn’s family about their nuptials. Bo and Hope had welcomed Belle into their family with open arms, but Belle had a feeling that her father wasn’t going to be quite as nice.
When she had called her mother, telling her that her and Shawn wished to come over, Marlena had hesitated before she answered. Belle knew it was because John didn’t want Shawn in his home, but Belle had insisted, since the couple had important news to tell them.
So here they were, waiting for John to come downstairs. When he finally arrived, he nodded at the young couple, but said nothing as he sat down across from them.
Marlena smiled at them and asked, “Can I get you kids anything to drink?”
Both Shawn and Belle politely declined, and Belle knew she couldn’t put this off any longer.
“I know you’re both wondering why we’re here, so I’m not going to wait any longer to tell you,” Belle said. She could fell her whole body shaking, because she was so afraid of what her father’s reaction would be.
“What is it Belle?” Marlena asked, smiling at her daughter encouragingly.
“Well, it’s nothing bad,” Belle said. “It’s actually good news,” She said, trying to lighten everyone up a bit. She noticed her father was still silent and she sighed. “Shawn and I did something kind of spontaneous, and I know you guys are going to be a bit disappointed, but I want you to know that Shawn and I know we did the right thing,” She said. She fiddled with her hands nervously, and was relieved when she felt Shawn’s hand squeeze hers tightly for encouragement.
“Just tell us what this is about Isabella,” John said, a little gruffly.
Shawn glared at his father-in-law, but said nothing. He decided that Belle should speak, and he wasn’t going to take the floor away from her now.
“Well, you see, Shawn and I got to talking last night, and we decided that we loved each other so much, that we were willing to make a commitment to one another,” Belle said, trying to speak slowly, to calm her nerves down. “So one thing led to another, and we are now married,” Belle said, extending her left hand to her parents proudly.
“You’re what?” John said, standing up from the couch. “This has to be some sort of sick joke Isabella, and if it is, I am definitely NOT amused,” He bellowed.
Belle was crushed. She was foolish for thinking that her father would embrace Shawn after she told him they were married. “Daddy, it’s not a joke – we’re married. I’ll show you the marriage certificate,” She said, pulling it out of her purse. All of a sudden, she felt like she was a little girl again, getting caught with her hands in the cookie jar. Her father always made her feel that way, and she hated it.
John took the certificate away from Belle’s hand and scoffed at her. “Oh come on Izzy B- you went to one of those cheap 24 hour resorts to get married?” He asked, glaring at her.
“Daddy, we couldn’t wait – that’s how much we love each other,” Belle explained. “We didn’t care where it was, we just wanted it to be legal,” Belle said. “Can’t you understand that?” She pleaded.
“No,” John said. “I can’t.” He replied.
“John, I know this a shock, but they’re both adults, and like it or not, they’re married,” Marlena said, trying to reason with her husband.
John turned to look at his wife, his confusion obvious. “Wait a minute – you’re accepting this?” He asked.
Marlena nodded. “We don’t have a choice,” Marlena said. “Belle loves him, and it’s obvious that Shawn loves her too,” She said.
“Mr. Black, if I may-“ Shawn said.
“No,” He said, glaring at Shawn. “You may not,” His voice dripping with coldness.
“Daddy, don’t talk to him like that,” Belle said, moving closer to her father. Their faces were inches apart, and Belle swallowed nervously. “From now on, you’re going to show Shawn some respect, because he’s part of our family, whether you like it or not,” Belle told him.
“Young lady, I don’t like your tone,” John said, arching his eyebrows at her.
“I’m sorry Dad – I don’t mean to sound so demanding and authoritative,” Belle said. “But you’ve left me no choice. Shawn is my husband, and it’s time you accepted that.”
“Never.” John said, turning his back to them. “I will NEVER accept this marriage,” He said in a low voice.
“Honey, please,” Marlena said, turning him around. “You have to respect Belle’s wishes,” Marlena said.
“Respect Belle’s wishes? Doc, are you even listening to yourself? You’re not making any sense, and you’re supposed to be the shrink!” John exclaimed. He moved towards his daughter, and pointed his finger at her. “The way I see it Isabella, you have two choices; you either have this marriage annulled, or,” He said, pausing for a bit. “You’re cut off.” He said to her.
“I’m what?” Belle whimpered.
“It’s very simple – your job – well, it won’t be your job any more. And that’s because I no longer consider you my daughter.” John said.
Belle raised her hand to cover her mouth. She started to cry uncontrollably, and she felt Shawn’s arms wrap around her waist.
“Mr. Black, don’t do this to her,” Shawn said, trying to remain calm. “How can you turn your back on your own daughter?”
“I’m not turning my back on her – she turned her back on me – on this family when she decided to marry you – the enemy,” John snarled.
“You’re wrong Mr. Black,” Shawn said, trying to gently sooth Belle by stroking her hair lovingly. “I can’t believe what you’re doing to her,” Shawn said.
“John, you listen to me,” Marlena said, her own tears falling. “You take back what you said to our daughter!” She exclaimed. “Tell her you didn’t mean it – tell her right now!”
“I won’t take back a thing – I will say that she’s out of the will too – and her credit cards – they’ll be cancelled within 24 hours. She can keep her car, since she paid for it on her own, and has to keep paying for it,” He added. “And we’ll see how long she keeps her apartment, now that she doesn’t have a way to pay for her rent,” He said.
“Daddy, don’t do this!” Belle exclaimed. “Don’t do this to me – I love you, but you’re punishing me because I’m in love with a man who’s last name happens to be Brady,” Belle said. “And that’s unfair.” Belle sobbed.
“Isabella, life is never fair,” John said casually. “Now if that’ll be all, I’ll ask that you and your HUSBAND show themselves out.” He said.
“Damn you,” Shawn mumbled. He turned to Belle. “We’re not welcome here Belle, so we’d better get going.” He said to her.
But Belle didn’t move. “Wait Shawn – I have one more thing to say,” She said. She wiped her tears away, and stood tall. “One day Dad, you’ll look back on this, and you’ll regret every word that you said to me,” She said. “One day, you’ll find out that I’ve had a baby; and then you’ll find out that I’ve had another, and when you do, those will be the worst days of your life,” She said in an even voice. “And you’ll want to be apart of my life, but heed my words Daddy dear – when that day comes – and it will – don’t beg me for forgiveness,” She said, narrowing her eyes. “You make sure you come grovelling to my husband, and you’d better hope that he forgives you.” She said in a shaky voice.
John stood very still, listening to what his daughter had to say. At one moment, he didn’t think that she was serious. But when he saw the look in his daughter’s eyes, he gasped. She was very serious.
“Shawn, we’d better get going.” She said. “Mom, take care of yourself,” She said, hugging her mother.
“I’m so sorry my sweet girl,” Marlena mumbled to her.
“It’s not your fault Mom,” Belle said. “Just take care of yourself.” Belle said.
Belle walked over to the front door, with Shawn by her side, and resisted the urge to turn around and look at her father. She held her head high until she reached the elevator, but once she was inside, she collapsed into her husband’s arms, crying uncontrollably.
Shawn held her in his arms, and told her that everything would be all right. “It’s okay baby – he’ll come around – he has to.” Shawn said confidently.
But Belle shook her head. She doubted that he would. “It never should have come to this,” She whispered. She looked at Shawn, her blue eyes filled with confusion. “Why did he do this to me Shawn? Why? Why did he break my heart like this?” She asked tearfully.
Shawn embraced her once again and sighed. “I don’t know Belle. I just don’t know.”
