Belle wasn’t sure how it happened, but somehow her and Shawn settled into a romantic relationship with one another, with Shawn keeping his word about exploring their feelings for each another. They found themselves dropping the girls off at either Rex’s house, or Philip’s, so that he and Belle could ‘date’ each other. They would eat dinner in fancy restaurants, or go to the movies together. One night, they had simply walked together through Salem Place, holding hands as they contemplated the state that their relationship was in.
They had only told Philip, Mimi, and Rex about their newfound relationship. Mimi had been thrilled when she learned of Shawn and Belle’s night of passion, and she had demanded details a couple of days later, when the two women had gotten together at Shawn’s house. It was early in the afternoon, and Shawn was at work, and Elizabeth was at daycare. Belle had just put Eden down for her nap, which meant Belle had plenty of time to chat with her friend.
“Isabelle Black, you know I deserve some details – after all, if it hadn’t been for me and Philip playing Cupid, you guys never would’ve gotten this far,” Mimi had said to her.
“So you admit to playing matchmaker?” Belle had said, crossing her arms in front of her chest.
Mimi realized that she had inadvertently admitted the truth, but she had simply sighed.
“Okay, okay. I purposely kept the girls over at my house, so you and Shawn could be alone,” Mimi admitted.
“Well, I only have one thing to say to you,” Belle had said, frowning at her friend.
“Okay, tell me what it is, I can take it,” Mimi had said, bracing herself for the worst.
To her surprise, Belle had simply smiled at her, and had placed a hand on her shoulder.
“What?” Mimi had said, obviously shocked.
Belle grinned at her. “Leaving us alone did the trick – Shawn and I ended up making love, and it was wonderful,” Belle had said, her face glowing as she told Mimi what had happened.
Indeed, Belle informed Mrs. Kirakis that Shawn and her had taken their relationship to a new level. She didn’t provide any details for her though, because Belle believed that some things had to remain private.
They had yet to tell Elizabeth and Eden about the change in their relationship, and they found themselves talking about the girls a few days later, after they had eaten dinner. The girls were in the living room watching television, and Belle turned to look at Shawn.
“I guess they don’t suspect anything,” Belle said, as she sat across from him, and held his hand tightly.
“No, they don’t,” Shawn said. He brushed his lips across her knuckles, and she sighed happily.
“I hate that we’re keeping them in the dark about this; they deserve to know.” She said.
Shawn nodded. “And we’re going to tell them, when we’re ready,” Shawn said, smiling at her. “Don’t worry, they’re going to be thrilled – they already think of you as their mother, so you have nothing to fear,” He told her.
“Yeah, I guess you’re right,” Belle said. “I’m being kind of silly, aren’t I?”
“No, you’re just being you, and I wouldn’t have it any other way,” He said gently. “I appreciate your concern for the girls, but really, I don’t think you have to panic,” Shawn said.
“You’re probably right,” She said. “Still, let’s not wait too much longer,” She said.
“We won’t, don’t worry,” Shawn said. He smiled at her wickedly. “The sooner we tell them, the sooner you can get a good night’s sleep, without worrying about Eden waking up in the night,” He said to her.
Ever since the night they had first made love, which had been two weeks ago, Shawn refused to let Belle sleep alone. So every night, after they had put the girls to bed, Belle would sleep in Shawn’s room. They would make love, and afterwards, they would fall asleep in each other’s arms. Thankfully, Eden had grown out of the habit of calling Belle’s name out in the middle of the night. The child slept right through the night, and by the time morning arrived, Belle was always up before her, so the child never knew that Belle wasn’t sleeping in her room any more. But Belle felt terrible for deceiving Eden, even though she loved sleeping in Shawn’s bed.
He would pull her close to his body, and kiss her forehead before she fell asleep. The next morning, Shawn would awake and take a shower, while Belle made his breakfast ready. Shortly after 7:30, Belle would wake up Elizabeth, to get her ready for daycare. She would eat breakfast with her father, and then after 8:00, little Eden would come downstairs, and eventually have breakfast as well.
By 8:30, Shawn would be ready for work. He would always drop Elizabeth off at the daycare centre, and before he walked out the door, he would make sure to pull Belle aside, and kiss her goodbye.
It was almost as though they were married. Belle certainly felt like it, and she loved it. Later in the morning, Shawn would call her, to see how she was doing. They would flirt for a bit, and tease each other, and Shawn would eventually hang up, promising to call her later.
In the afternoons, after Eden had been put down for her nap, Belle would retreat to the living room, with her laptop in front of her, attempting to do some work. But lately, she hadn’t been getting a lot done. Shawn knew the time when Eden was taking her nap, so he would make sure to call her, and was always reluctant to hang up the phone.
Instead of being home by 5:00, Belle found Shawn arriving home just before 4:00. He greeted her with a passionate kiss each time he arrived, since Eden was still sleeping, and Elizabeth was busy watching TV. He would sit in the kitchen with Belle as she made dinner, and tell her about his day. That was a routine they had settled into, even before they had become intimate. That was the best part of their relationship – they could always tell each other anything, and both of them valued each other’s opinion.
Shawn couldn’t wait to see Belle each night. He found himself leaving work earlier these days, just so he could be with her. Rex and him had now hired a new employee at the office – his name was Kevin Lambert, and he was proving to be a valuable employee at the agency. Shawn had checked his references, and he had decided to give the young man a chance. It was a relief to have someone helping Shawn out with his cases, which gave him some more free time with Belle.
So everything was going well for Shawn and Belle, although they knew that the girls would have to be told soon of what was going on. So far, they had been pretty good at keeping the truth from them.
Belle suddenly remembered something else that she wanted to talk to him about, and she cleared her throat. “Shawn, I’m thinking about something, and I really need your opinion on it,” She said.
“Sure, what is it?” He asked, looking at her closely.
“Well, it’s about my job,” She said. She gave him a tiny smile. “Well, if you want to call it that,” She added. “I’ve been thinking about quitting. I only work part time, so it’s not as though they need me. My mom’s friend Kate Roberts is handling everything just fine, and I really don’t need the money, since my mom and dad left me so much in their will,” Belle said quietly.
Shawn squeezed her hand tightly. “You still miss them?”
Belle nodded, and swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat. “I guess I got used to not having Dad around, but I really miss Mom,” Belle admitted. “I wish she was here.” She said.
“I know what you mean honey; I miss my parents too, more than you know.” He said. His heart ached for her, and he could feel her pain, since he had gone through the same sort of pain when his parents had died.
“You really do understand me,” Belle murmured. “What did I do to deserve you?” She asked, putting her hand on his cheek. “You are so special Shawn Douglas,” She whispered.
But Shawn shook his head. “No Belle. I’m the one who doesn’t deserve you,” He said. “And you’re the one who’s special – inside and out,” He told her.
Belle smiled at his words, and leaned forward to meet his lips for a very short but very sweet kiss. Afterwards, they decided to have a coffee together, while the girls remained in the living room. As she poured coffee for the both of them, Belle realized that she had gotten distracted from what she had originally planned on telling Shawn.
“Shawn, now that I’m going to quit Basic Black, I want you to know that I’ll be here for you and the girls, no matter what,” She said.
Shawn took his cup of coffee, and added some cream and sugar to it. “Belle, even when you were working, you were always here for them, so nothing’s changing,” He said, in a simple voice.
“Well, I just want you to know that your family is my number one priority, no matter what,” She said.
“Thank you Belle. That means a lot.” He said quietly.
“You’re welcome,” She said. As he took a sip of his coffee, he thought of something, and smiled at her. “So does this mean I can surprise you for lunch more often?” He asked, trying to appear innocent.
Belle nearly spit out her coffee. “Don’t you dare pull that kind of stunt on me again!” Belle exclaimed.
“Why? In the end, you were more than happy to see me, if you get my drift,” Shawn said, raising his eyebrows as he looked at her closely.
“Yes, well, if you decide to come home for lunch again, please make sure to tell me, not just surprise me like you did a few days ago,” She said.
She was referring to the day he had come home, early in the afternoon. Shawn had managed to sneak away from the agency, and come to see Belle. She of course, hadn’t been expecting him, so he had unlocked the door, and quietly went into the kitchen. He knew that Eden was asleep, so when he saw Belle with her back turned to him, he knew it was the perfect opportunity to surprise her. He quietly walked up behind her, smiling to himself when he heard her humming. She was peeling some carrots, and failed to hear Shawn………..
When he grabbed her from behind, Belle had screamed. Shawn had nearly fallen to the floor in laughter, and she had swatted his arm when she realized it was him.
“Shawn Douglas Brady, you nearly gave me a heart attack!”
Shawn managed to pick himself up off the floor, and put his hands on her waist. “I’m sorry baby, I didn’t mean to. I was just trying to have a little fun,” He said.
“Fun my ass!” Belle exclaimed. “What are you doing home anyway? It’s only 1:00,” She said, glancing at the clock on the wall.
“Well, I managed to sneak away from the agency, so I thought I’d come home and have lunch,” He said.
“Lunch? Well, why didn’t you tell me? I haven’t made anything, but if you’d like I can make a sandwich, or something else,” She said.
As Belle turned to walk towards the fridge, she was surprised when Shawn stopped her.
“Belle, I don’t want anything.”
“But you said you came home for lunch.” She said, in obvious confusion
“I said I came home for lunch, but I lied,” He mumbled. He pulled her towards his body, and stared into her blue eyes. He found himself lost in them, and thought about the countless times he had stared into the same blue eyes as they made love. Thinking about that made his manhood instantly harden, and he licked his lips in anticipation.
“Shawn, I know what you’re thinking, and you’re crazy,” She said. Yet, she didn’t pull away from him. She had her arms around him, and their bodies were pressed together tightly.
“You’re right,” Shawn whispered, as he moved his lips closer to her own. “I am crazy,” He said. His lips were now just inches away from hers, but before he kissed her, he said, “I’m crazy about you.” Their lips made contact, and Belle moaned as she felt her head spinning. She wasn’t surprised at the way she was reacting to him – Shawn always made her feel this way.
Before they knew what was happening, Shawn was untying his tie, and throwing it to the floor, as they slowly made their way from the kitchen, through the living room, and over to the stairs.
“Shawn, this is nuts,” She whispered; yet she was helping him pull his shirt off of his body.
“I know,” Shawn said. “That’s what makes it so exciting,” He murmured.
They walked up the stairs together, trying to remove the rest of their clothing, and kissing each other eagerly.
“Shawn, I have work to do,” She murmured, as he led her into his bedroom. He removed her jeans, and her panties, and made sure to have a condom in his hand before they lay down on his bed. “I have to make some stew for dinner, and then I’m supposed to go over some reports that Kate emailed me yesterday,” She said, but even as she was talking, she was arching her neck for Shawn, encouraging him to place his eager lips on her skin.
“It’ll have to wait,” He said roughly, as he sheathed himself and entered her.
It wasn’t long before they were calling each other’s name, and a short while later; they were lying in each other’s arms.
“Shawn, that was…”
“No, better than that,” Belle said.
“No,” Belle said.
“No, better than that.”
Shawn sighed. “Belle, I’m running out of adjectives.”
Belle giggled, and kissed his cheek softly. “Well, you get the idea, right?” She said.
“Oh yeah,” Shawn said.
~End of Flashback~
“Hey, I didn’t hear you complaining after we had, you know,” Shawn said, bobbing his brows.
Belle laughed, and hit his arm. “What am I going to do with you?” She said, standing up from the table, and walking towards the sink.
“Good question,” Shawn mumbled.
He was silent as he thought about Belle, and his future. That was something he had been doing a lot of lately. He knew he loved her, even though he hadn’t admitted that to her yet. She cared for him too – more than she was willing to admit, but he was okay with that.
And she loved his daughters. She would always be there for them, and in that instant, Shawn came to a decision about his life, and his future. He would speak to Belle about it, but not right now.
Later that night, Shawn and Belle were lying down, facing each other in bed. It was almost midnight, and the girls had been put to sleep a couple of hours earlier. It was pitch dark, but Belle could feel Shawn’s hand on her cheek, caressing it gently.
“Tomorrow is Friday,” Shawn told her.
“Yeah, TGIF,” Belle said. He could almost see her beautiful smile, and he sighed.
“Belle, I’m going to ask Philip and Mimi to watch the girls again for us tomorrow night,” Shawn said. “I’d like us to go out,” Shawn told her.
“Really? Where do you want to go?” Belle asked.
“Oh, it’s a surprise, but you’ll find out soon enough. Just don’t make anything for dinner, and take out that nice dress out of your closet, the one that you bought when you were shopping with Mimi last week,” Shawn said.
“Okay, but can’t you at least give me a hint?” She asked.
“No, you’ll find out soon enough.” He told her.
Belle begged Shawn to tell her where he was taking her, but he refused. Even the next morning, as Belle fixed the collar on his shirt, and she placed light kisses across his neck, he refused to tell her anything.
He gave her a long kiss before he took Elizabeth, and left for the day, promising to call Belle later that morning.
Belle sighed happily after he had left, and decided to get dressed. Eden was already fed, and she was in her room, playing quietly. Belle watched the little girl closely as she dressed, feeling a wave of love wash over her.
“Eden honey, what are you colouring?” She asked, as she stepped closer to her. Eden was sitting at her tiny desk in the corner, and she looked at Belle brightly.
“I drew a picture of everbawdy,” Eden told her. “See?” She said, pointing to some scribbles on her piece of paper. “Daddy, Wizzie, me, and you,” She said. “We’re a family, like Caillou,” She told her.
Belle felt her eyes fill with tears at the child’s simple words. ‘Caillou’ was Eden’s favourite television show, and it was about a four-year-old boy, and his mother, father, and little sister. He often talked about them, and referred to them as family, which meant Eden considered Belle a part of her family. She didn’t think she should be surprised – Belle knew she had bonded with the girls a long time ago, but it still touched her to know that Eden thought the same way. Shawn was right – her and Lizzie would accept Belle once they learned her and Shawn had developed a deeper relationship with each other.
Later in the afternoon, Belle made sure Eden was all ready to go. She had just woken up from her nap, and Belle made sure her face was washed, and her long brown hair was pulled up into a simple ponytail. Belle was getting ready to pick up Elizabeth from daycare, and then Belle would drop them off at Philip and Mimi’s house. Shawn had already called Mimi, and she had been thrilled when Shawn asked if she could watch them. She even offered to keep them for the night, and Shawn agreed. Belle made sure she had packed a bag for each of the girls, and she was off. Almost an hour later, Belle was breathless when she arrived home.
It was time for her to get ready, and Belle rushed up to her room. She opened her closet, and took her dress out. She had gone shopping a week earlier with Mimi, and both of them had loved the dress instantly. It was a red halter-top cocktail dress; it was spandex/poly bend, and shaped to Belle’s body for a very nice and flattering fit. The back was bare, and the hem of the dress fell just above Belle’s knees. She had also bought a pair of red sandals with fabric straps and mesh in between the straps – a rhinestone ornament completed the look, and they went perfectly with her dress. Belle had a small evening purse as well, and she quickly dressed, loving the way the dress clung to her body.
Her hair was pulled up into an elegant French twist, with a ringlet on each side of her face. Her makeup wasn’t overdone, and just as she put on her lipstick, she heard Shawn enter the house.
“I’m home!” He said.
“I’m upstairs!” She called out. “And I’m on my way down!”
Shawn wasn’t prepared when he saw the vision of loveliness that came down the stairs. He stared at the dress, and marvelled at the way it fit her body like a second skin. It showed off her golden legs, and he groaned when he saw her sandals, showing her perfect toes, which were covered in a bright red nail polish.
“Well?” Belle said, obviously taken aback by his silence.
Belle walked closer to him, and was surprised when he gave her a mind-blowing kiss. Belle moaned as she threaded her fingers through his hair, and arched her neck as he placed tiny kisses on it.
“Which perfume are you wearing?” He growled, as he looked at her.
“White diamonds.” Belle answered.
“Thank you.” Belle said.
Shawn exhaled slowly. “Belle, you look gorgeous. That dress was made for your body.” He said, looking at it once more.
“I was hoping you’d like it.” She purred.
“I love it.” He said. He cleared his throat, and said, “Okay, let’s go for dinner,” He said. “Is my suit okay?” He asked.
Belle nodded, as she looked over the dark blue suit he was wearing, with a baby blue dress shirt, and a matching tie. “It’s perfect.” She said.
Shawn took Belle to the Penthouse Grille for dinner, where they talked about Shawn’s day. It was very busy at the agency, which is why he was thankful for the extra help he was getting from Kevin.
“Rex and I were pretty happy today, cause we think we’re going to get this big account,” Shawn told her, as he sipped his wine.
“Oh yeah? Anyone I know?” She asked, leaning forward.
“I don’t think so – the potential clients are from out of town. They come from a city called Harmony – I think their last names are Crane, or something. Anyways, the big cheese Julian Crane came in, along with his sister Sheridan, and they’re looking for someone who used to work from them. Apparently she embezzled a large amount of money from their business. We told them what our price would be, and we gave them an estimate as to how long it would take to find this person,” Shawn said. “As always, what I tell you stays between the two of us,” Shawn reminded her.
“Of course.” Belle said. “So does it look like he’s going to hire you?” Belle asked.
“I think so. He’s going to get back to us on Monday morning, so at that time, I’m going to send Rex on a little search for our criminal,” He said. Shawn lowered his voice before he continued. “Belle, if we find this person, the Crane’s will be paying us a lot,” He admitted.
“Really? That’s great!” Belle said. “So if you do this for him, then you’ll get even more cases!”
“Exactly. That’s why it’s so important that we nail this person; if we do, there’s no telling how far we’ll go!” He exclaimed.
“That’s wonderful Shawn,” Belle told him. “You know, now that I’m not working any more, I can probably help you guys with some office work, once you get busy,” Belle said.
“How are you going to do that?” Shawn asked. “I mean, you still have to watch Eden,” Shawn said.
“I know, but come September, she’ll be going to daycare too, and I’ll be alone. I’ll be bored to death,” Belle told him. “What do you think?”
“Well, I think we can work something out,” Shawn said, holding her hand gently in his.
“Good.” Belle said.
They had a cup of coffee after dinner, and once they were done, Shawn asked if Belle would mind going for a little drive.
“Sure.” Belle said, taking his hand as they walked out together to his car. They were silent as Shawn drove through the streets of Salem. The sun had now set, and the city was in darkness. Belle sighed happily when she felt Shawn reach across the seat to touch her thigh gently. She smiled at him briefly before he turned his attention back to the road ahead of him. After a few minutes, Belle frowned when she didn’t recognize the road in front of her. It was narrow and long, and Belle could swear they were going up a mountain. It was nearly pitch dark, except for the few surrounding headlights.
“Shawn, where are we going?” She asked in confusion.
He stopped the car at a clearing, and Belle gasped. In front of her was a spectacular sight of the city of Salem. Dozens and dozens of lights could be seen, and Belle had never seen such a breathtaking sight in her life.
“Where are we Shawn?” She asked, still stunned by the view in front of her.
Shawn tilted his head to the side as he leaned his arms across the steering wheel. He had turned the engine off, and was now staring at Belle closely.
“You mean, you don’t know?” He asked softly.
Belle shook her head. “This is my first time here.” She told him.
“Wow.” Shawn mumbled. He cleared his throat after a moment, so he could tell her. “Belle, did you ever hear of Lookout Point when we were in high school?” He asked gently.
“You mean make out point?” She said, giggling. “Of course.” She stopped for a moment, and the smile disappeared from her lips. “Oh,” She said.
Shawn turned on his side, and took her tiny hand in his. He rubbed it gently, and sighed. “Belle, I took you here tonight for a reason,” He told her.
“You did?” She said, her heart pounding wildly in her chest. Shawn looked so intense, and she couldn’t wait to hear what he had to say to her.
“Yes. I wanted to tell you how much I’ve been enjoying these last couple of weeks,” He said huskily. “Dating you isn’t what I expected it to be.” He admitted.
“What do you mean? Haven’t you been enjoying yourself?” She asked, frowning a bit.
“Yes, of course I have. That’s just it – I feel like I’m in high school again Belle, and in a way, I wish we were. I’d probably do a lot of things differently,” He said.
“Like what?” She asked, unable to tear her eyes away from him.
“Well for starters, I wouldn’t get involved with Jan,” He said, in a low and gruff voice. “I suppose I shouldn’t say that, because if I hadn’t gotten her pregnant and married her, I wouldn’t have my two precious girls,” He said. “But looking back, I wish I would’ve done some things differently.” He said quietly. He put her hand over his chest, and smiled at her. “Do you feel that Belle? Do you feel how my heart is beating so quickly?”
When she nodded, he continued. “No one has ever made me feel like this before, not even Jan,” He said. “I don’t know what it is about you, but I’m just realizing that there’s something more between us,” He said. “And I think it goes back all the way to high school, and I’m still not sure why it took me so long to realize how much I care for you,” He said. He chose his next words carefully, as he continued to look into her beautiful blue eyes. “I can’t imagine my life without you Belle, and I want to make sure that you’ll always be there for me, and for the girls,” He said.
“I will be Shawn, you don’t have to worry about that,” She told him, smiling at him.
“I know that, but I want us to promise each other that we’ll always be there for one another. I’ve come to a decision Belle, and I want you to hear me out before you answer me,” He said. “I want us to be together, and I want everyone to know that Shawn and Belle aren’t friends any more. You’re so worried about how the girls are going to react, even though I’ve assured you that they’ll accept you in my life as more than my best friend and their babysitter,” He said. “That’s why when we tell everyone about us, it should be done right. We should make it clear to everyone that we’re making a commitment to each other.” He stopped, and took a deep breath. “That’s why I want you to marry me Belle.” He said.
Belle gasped, and covered her mouth with her hand. She couldn’t believe what he had just said, and she almost pinched herself to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.
“I know this isn’t what you were expecting Belle, and I’m sorry if it’s such a shock,” He said, touching her cheek with his hand. “But what better way to be a family than for us to get married? I’m not saying it’ll be a marriage of convenience; I want us to be husband and wife in every sense of the word,” He said. “And before you say anything, I know that we’re not in love – not yet anyway,” He said, still afraid to put his heart on the line. “But who’s to say that we won’t fall in love Belle? I mean, I care for you so much, and I know you care about me. We’re attracted to each other, and I think that we will fall in love, eventually,” He said. He was lying through his teeth, but he had a reason. He didn’t want to rush Belle, or overwhelm her with his feelings. It was better to take things one-step at a time; once they were married, he was sure that Belle would fall in love with him.
“Shawn, I-“ She tried to slow her breathing down. She wanted to tell him her true feelings, but she wouldn’t. He didn’t feel the same way. But he was willing to give this a chance; he was willing to marry her, because he wanted her in his life forever, and he already admitted to having deep feelings about her. She knew what her answer was going to be, and she felt a tear fall from her eye as she opened her mouth to speak.
“Let’s do it Shawn. Let’s get married.” She said, cupping his face.
Shawn felt his heart fill with joy, as he leaned forward and kissed her gently. Once he pulled away, he leaned his forehead against hers, and said, “I won’t make you regret it Belle. I’ll make you the happiest woman ever.”
Belle closed her eyes. He didn’t have to make that promise to her, because she was already happy with him. But she nodded, and said, “I know you will Shawn.”
Belle couldn’t remember being so happy. She was making preparations to marry the man of her dreams, which was only one reason she was overjoyed. Belle was also relieved to see how happy the girls were when Shawn and Belle told them they were going to get married. They hugged Belle tightly, and asked Belle if they could now call her Mommy.
Belle was shocked, but with tears in her eyes, she told them she would be honoured if they would call her Mommy.
Shawn went out and bought a diamond engagement ring for Belle, which she loved. They planned a small wedding in St. Luke’s Church, where only close friends and family were invited. Belle chose a simple but beautiful wedding dress that was being designed for her. It was long, and had a beaded lace sleeveless bodice, with a plunging neckline. The silk satin trumpet skirt and detailed lace hemline was exactly what Belle wanted. She put a rush order on it, along with a matching headpiece and veil.
The wedding was planned within a month’s time, and Belle couldn’t remember ever being so busy in her life. When she told Kate Roberts about her upcoming wedding, she was thrilled. In fact, she was the one who obtained a team of seamstresses together, informing them that this young girl’s father was the founder of Basic Black. Kate told them to have the dress ready ASAP.
With the dress taken care of, Shawn and Belle focused on where to hold the reception. They decided on the Penthouse Grille, and Belle was sure to take care of the flower arrangements as well. Belle asked Mimi to be her maid of honour, and she accepted. Naturally, Shawn asked Philip to be his best man, who also accepted.
Belle found herself busy around the house as well; she moved all of her stuff into Shawn’s room, which took her nearly three days, since she had so many clothes. Shawn had grumbled and complained about it, but was more than happy to help her. They were both thrilled when Shawn was finished - Belle officially shared Shawn’s room with him now.
Belle talked to a photographer, as well as a videographer, thankful that she had found someone available with such short notice.
Everything was going well, despite the fact that the wedding was now only two weeks away. Belle didn’t even think she had eaten a full meal since Shawn had proposed, because so much was going on. She remembered the marriage license had to be picked up, and she called Shawn one afternoon on his cell phone, asking him to pick it up.
“Sure thing babe,” Shawn said, once she got a hold of him. “Oh, and Belle? I have great news,” Shawn said. “Remember the Crane case I was telling you about?”
“Yes, of course I do. The one where they wanted to find Teresa Lopez-Fitzgerald, because she stole over 20 million dollars from these guys,” Belle said.
“Yeah well, I was able to find her. She’s been here in the state of Illinois, hiding out. We made an arrest this afternoon, and we also found a garbage bag full of money,” Shawn told her.
“No way!” Belle exclaimed. “You were able to find the money?”
“Yes. So you know what that means, don’t you?”
“Yes, I sure do!” Belle exclaimed. She could only imagine what the Crane’s were going to pay Shawn, and she was so proud of him. This meant more business for them, which is exactly what he needed. “That’s great Shawn.”
“It is. We’ll talk more when I get home. See you soon.” He said.
Belle was so excited! She could only imagine how ecstatic Shawn was. She cheerfully made dinner for all of them, and nearly an hour later, Shawn walked in giving Belle a breathless kiss before he greeted his daughters.
“How was your day?” Belle asked, smiling at him as she walked into the kitchen. “Were you able to pick up the license?” She asked.
“Yes. It’s in my jacket pocket,” Shawn said.
“Good. One less thing worry about.” Belle said.
They ate dinner together, and while they did, Shawn asked Belle where she wanted to go for their honeymoon.
“Honeymoon? I hadn’t even thought of that,” Belle murmured.
“Well, think about it, and let me know. We’ll go anywhere you want to go,” Shawn said. He finished his dinner, and helped Belle with the dishes. “Have you gone over the wedding list today?” He asked.
Belle nodded. “Yeah, and it looks as though we’ve got about 70 people coming. Your grandparents, Doug and Julie are coming in from Europe, and your Uncle Roman is also coming,” Belle told him.
“That’s great! I haven’t seen Grandpa and Julie in ages,” He said. “And you remember Uncle Roman, don’t you?” Shawn asked.
“Yeah, he’s the one who’s also a cop, right? He’s from Milwaukee?”
“Yep, that’s the one,” Shawn said. “What about my grandparents Shawn and Caroline – I know they’re living in Ireland, but they did promise to call back, to let us know if they’re coming.”
“Oh yeah, they’re coming too. They were thrilled when I called to them about us getting married. Did you know they remembered me, from when they visited us three years ago?” Belle said. She sighed. “Your family has always been so wonderful to me throughout the years,” She said.
“That’s only because you’re so wonderful,” He said, leaning forward and kissing her bare shoulder gently.
Belle shivered in delight, and continued to wash the dishes.
“Hey, now that we solved the Crane case, Rex and I were talking; we know we’re going to get a lot more cases now, so we thought about throwing a party for all of our past clients, as well as the potential one’s. Something very formal, and I thought about holding it here at the house. What do you think?” Shawn asked, as he stood next to her at the sink.
“Well, that sounds like something fun,” Belle said. She was lost in thought, as she tried to think of what she would need in order to pull a party off. “I could probably get Mimi to help me out with the cooking,” She mumbled.
“No way!” Shawn exclaimed. “There’ll be over 60 people – I’m not going to let you cook for that many people!” Shawn said.
“So what do you want to do?” Belle asked, obviously curious.
“Well, I want to hire a caterer – you can order anything you want, but I don’t want you cooking, that’ll tire you out,” Shawn said.
“Okay, I guess we can do that.” Belle said. “I’ll order the food, and we’ll just have it delivered to us on the day of the party,” Belle said.
Shawn smiled. He knew he could count on her for anything. He leaned over and placed an impulsive kiss on her cheek. “Thanks honey.” He whispered.
“You’re welcome, but for what?” She asked, looking at him with a confused look on her face.
“For being so supportive.”
“Oh well, that’s my job, now that I’m going to be your wife,” Belle said. “As for the honeymoon, why don’t we wait until after the wedding to plan that,” Belle suggested.
“Sure, whatever you want.” He said. “And don’t worry about planning this party too soon – I’ll wait until after we’re married to do that.”
“Okay.” Belle said.
One week before the wedding, Belle’s dress was ready, and she couldn’t be more satisfied with it. She was able to hide it in the guest room downstairs, away from Shawn’s prying eyes. She wanted him to be surprised, and couldn’t wait to see his reaction to it.
The guest list was finalized, and a couple of days before the wedding, Belle felt her heart ache when she realized she would have no one from her family attending. Her parents had no siblings, which meant no cousins. She wished her mother could be there for her on her special day. As the wedding approached, she decided to make a special trip to the cemetery.
Once Belle arrived to her mother’s tombstone, she knelt down, placing a bouquet of flowers in front of it. She sighed as she touched the tombstone gently.
“I miss you so much Mom, but you already know that,” She said. “I just thought you should know that I’m getting married – to Shawn, believe it or not,” Belle said. Smiling. “I love him even more than before Mom, and I think if all goes well, he’ll love me too; in time. His girls are so wonderful, and I can’t imagine my life without them.” She said.
She wiped the tears the silently fell down her cheeks. “I’m so happy Mom; the wedding is the day after tomorrow, but I’m filled with a sense of emptiness, since I don’t have any family left. I’m so glad that I have Shawn and his daughters, and it should make you happy to know that they’re going to be my family from now on. So you don’t have to worry about me any more Mom.” She said, her voice shaky. “I love you Mom.” She stood up, and tried to compose herself. She knew she had to get going, since she had promised Mimi she would pick up the girls within an hour. She wanted to be home before Shawn got there, and as she quickly hurried out of the cemetery, she felt a shiver run up her spine when a gust of wind blew at her neck. She stopped walking for a moment, her heart beating quickly.
“I’m happy for you my sweet girl.”
Belle smiled; her mother had heard her. She now felt complete.
She was home within the hour, and she greeted Shawn when he walked in a few minutes later. He kissed her forehead gently, and told her that he had a special surprise for her.
“Okay, what is it?” Belle asked impatiently.
“Let’s wait until the girls are asleep, okay?” He said.
Belle agreed, and wondered what it could be. Later in the evening, Belle had given the girls a bath, and had just put them down to sleep, when Shawn approached her in their bedroom.
“Sit down on the bed,” Shawn told her.
“Okay.” Belle said.
Shawn had an envelope in his hand, and quietly handed it to her. “Consider this my wedding present to you.” He said, smiling at her nervously. “I hope you like it.”
Belle was a little confused as she opened the large envelope, and found some legal documents in it. She slowly read through them, not believing what they said, and she gasped. She looked up at Shawn, and wondered if she could believe this.
“Shawn?” She said, obviously confused.
“Yes.” Shawn said gently.
“Are you sure about this?” She asked, her voice shaky as she looked over the documents once again.
“Of course I’m sure. I’ve wanted to do this ever since you agreed to marry me,” Shawn said. “But I had to talk to my Uncle Mickey, and get through some legal mumbo jumbo,” Shawn said.
“But Shawn,” Belle said, trying to catch her breathe. “Are you sure you want me to adopt Eden and Lizzie? I mean, do they want this? We should talk about it with them,” She said.
“Belle, I already have and they’re thrilled.”
“But what about Jan?” Belle said. “You’ll need her consent, and Lord only knows where she is, and if you find her, she’s not going to sign anything, she’ll –“
“She’s already signed them Belle.” Shawn said, interrupting her. “Look at the date on these documents.” Shawn said.
Belle did so, and was shocked. “You had these drawn up as soon as I accepted your proposal,” She said quietly.
“That’s right. And as soon as I did, I found Jan, living in Europe of all places with her mother,” Shawn said.
“But how did you find her?” Belle asked. “And how did you convince her to sign these papers?”
“Well, I own a detective agency, so it wasn’t too hard finding Jan. As for her signing these papers, she didn’t protest. In fact, she didn’t even ask about the girls. She was probably relieved to have the burden of raising them given to someone else,” Shawn said bitterly.
“Did you speak to her?” Belle asked.
Shawn shook his head. “Rex went to Europe, and met with her. He spoke with her, and he said she was only too willing to sign the papers. So once you adopt them, Jan doesn’t have any legal rights to them, and we don’t have to worry about any surprises from her either. She’s relinquished all rights to them. Once you sign them, you’ll be their mother from now on.”
“Oh Shawn,” Belle said. “Thank you.” Belle said, sobbing as she put the papers down in front her, and gave Shawn a warm hug. “You have no idea how much this means to me,” She whimpered.
“Yes I do, that’s why I wanted this done right.” He said. ‘I love you.’ His heart said, but he still refused to say it out loud.
Belle didn’t wait to sign the papers; she shakily asked Shawn for a pen, and once that was done, Shawn kissed the back of her hand gently.
“Okay, it’s official; you are now the mother of two beautiful little girls!” Shawn exclaimed.
“And nothing could please me more,” Belle whispered.
Shawn reached out to wipe the tears falling down her cheeks. “Why are you crying?” He asked softly.
“Because I’m so happy,” Belle answered.
“I see.” Shawn said. “Tears of joy are what I like,” He said, kissing her forehead. “Now, how about we turn in; tomorrow we’re going to have a busy day, since it’s the day before our wedding,”
“You’re right.” Belle said.
The next day passed in a blur, with last minute preparations for the wedding underway. The cake was all ready, and set to be delivered to the Penthouse Grille for the following afternoon. Belle took her wedding dress, and her other essentials, and went to spend the night at Mimi’s house. She didn’t want Shawn seeing her until they met up with one another at the Church. Shawn protested, but Belle insisted on leaving.
“Okay, but I’m going to hold you responsible for me not sleeping well tonight,” He murmured, as he walked her over to her car.
“You’re going to hold me responsible? Why?” Belle asked. She turned so that her back was leaning against her car, and she put her arms around Shawn’s neck. Shawn’s hands were on her waist, and he was looking at her so closely, that Belle almost fainted.
“I’ve gotten so used to sleeping with you,” He murmured, as he placed his lips on her neck. “It’s going to be HARD sleeping without you by my side,” He said.
Belle giggled as his lips touched hers for a sweet kiss.
“It’s only one night Shawn, and just remember - tomorrow night, we’ll make up for lost time,” She said, winking at him seductively.
“Shit,” Shawn said, his hands stroking her back gently. “You’re going to be the death of me Miss Black,” He whispered. “Or, shall I say, Mrs. Brady?” He said, smirking at her.
“Oh yes, please do,” Belle said. “I like the sounds of that.”
“You know what I would like the sound of?” He asked, as his hands lowered to her behind.
“No, but I think you’re going to tell me,”
Shawn grinned as his lips travelled to her tiny earlobe, and Belle shivered when she heard Shawn’s voice whispering to her seductively.
“I like the sound of your voice, when you call out my name while you’re underneath me,” He said. He squeezed her behind gently, and she squealed.
“Oh, so it’s only when I’m underneath you?” She asked, raising her eyebrows. “How about if YOU’RE underneath me,” She teased.
“Oh damn,” Shawn breathed. “I didn’t expect that.”
Belle’s smile widened as Shawn pressed his erection against her soft body.
“See what you did?” He mumbled.
“Hey, it’s not my fault – you started it!”
“And we’ll finish it, right now,” He said, his hands slowly making their way to her breasts. “Come up to our bedroom, so we can make love, please baby,” He pleaded, looking at her with dark and hooded eyes.
“Shawn, I can’t!” Belle exclaimed. “Come on, aren’t you getting together with the guys, for a bachelor party?” She asked.
“Yes, but that can wait,” He said. His thumb grazed her nipple gently, and she closed her eyes. “Please Belle, I want you,” He whispered.
“I want you too Shawn,” She whispered. “But we can’t do this, not tonight.” She said, finally opening her eyes, and pushing him away gently.
Shawn didn’t like that. “Belle, come on,” He said, moving towards her once again.
Belle quickly opened her door, and stepped inside before Shawn could stop her.
“I’m sorry Shawn, but you need to take a cold shower,” She said, once she was in her car. She started the engine, and grinned when she noticed his erection. “Just keep thinking about tomorrow night – our wedding night, and that should help you function.”
“Well, I guess,” Shawn mumbled. He lowered his head to the window, and placed a quick kiss on her lips. “So I guess this is it. Next time we see each other, you’ll be walking down the aisle at St. Luke’s, and I’ll be waiting for you.” He told her. “I can’t wait.” He said softly.
“Me too.” Belle said. “So are the girls going to be all right with grandparents?” Belle asked.
“Yes, don’t worry about them. Grandma and Julie are going to take care of them tomorrow morning, and they can’t wait to be your flower girls,” He told her.
“Same here,” Belle said. “Okay, I’m out of here,” Belle said. “See you tomorrow.” Belle said.
She drove off, and Shawn wasn’t surprised when he felt empty and alone. It was silly, because he was going to see her the next day. But he still missed her.
Belle had a last minute bachelorette party thrown for her, and it was fun, even though there wasn’t a stripper. Belle opted to have a friendly get together with the girls, even though Mimi begged Belle to call someone.
In the end, the girls had all ended up going to a bar, even though Belle’s mind was on Shawn. She took her cell phone, and contemplated calling him. No, he probably wouldn’t like it, she thought. She knew he was getting together with the guys, for a small bachelor party at the house.
Still, she wanted to hear his voice so badly. She glanced at Mimi and Cassie, who were both distracted. Belle made an excuse about having to go the bathroom, and once she was there, she pulled out her cell phone once again. Just as she was about to dial, she jumped when the phone rang.
It was Shawn.
Belle was thrilled to hear his voice. “I miss you baby,” Shawn whispered. “Do you miss me?”
“Yes.” Belle answered. “Are you having fun with the guys?”
“Not really. I need to see you – can you come over?”
Belle wanted to, but she knew she wouldn’t. She wanted their wedding night to be special, and she knew she would have to stay away from him in order for that to happen.
“I can’t.” Belle said. She heard Shawn sigh impatiently, and said, “Shawn, tomorrow at this time, you’ll be buried deep inside of me,” Belle said, making sure that her voice was low. “So just keep that in mind, and you’ll be fine.” She said.
Shawn groaned loudly when he heard her words. “Belle, I want you now!”
Belle nearly giggled. “I know Shawn, and I want you too. But come on, just try and think about something else. Forget me, just for one night,” Belle said.
“That’s like asking me not to breath,” He told her.
“Oh Shawn,” Belle said. He always knew what to say to leave her speechless.
“I can’t wait to make you my wife, so I can make you just as happy as you’ve made me.” He said tenderly.
“Shawn, stop, you’re making me cry!”
“Well don’t worry – I’ll make you cry on our wedding night, but it won’t be because you’re in any pain,” He said huskily.
Belle felt her face burning with embarrassment, even though she knew no one could hear what Shawn was saying.
“Stop it Shawn,” She whispered. “You’re making me blush.”
“Am I?” He asked. “Good. I just want you to get a taste of what you’re missing.”
“Shawn, you are in so much trouble.” Belle told him, laughing. “Now, get out of here, and don’t call me again!” She exclaimed.
Before he had a chance to say anything, Belle hung up her phone, and went back to her friends. She couldn’t stop thinking about Shawn though, and she knew she would dream of him that night.
The next morning, Belle was thrilled to see the sun shining, and not a cloud in the sky. It was her wedding day; she was going to become Mrs. Shawn Brady, and nothing could make her happier.
The morning passed quickly – Belle found herself not hungry at all, and skipped breakfast and lunch. Between going to the hair salon to get hair done, then getting her make up done, she simply didn’t have the time, nor inclination to stop and eat.
When it was just past noon, Belle made her way to St. Luke’s. An hour later, she was in her wedding dress, and ready to walk down the aisle.
The guests had all arrived, and when it was time to make her entrance, Belle felt her stomach fill with butterflies. She was so nervous, but as soon as she walked down the aisle, and found Shawn watching her with a loving look on his face, Belle’s nervousness disappeared. His face was filled with love and admiration for his young bride, as she made her way next to him. He didn’t have to tell her she looked beautiful; she could see it in his eyes.
Their eyes were locked on one another as they exchanged vows, and Belle swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat once the minister announced they were man and wife.
Shawn leaned over to her, and they shared their first kiss as man and wife. They walked out of the church, and made their way over to the limousine, with Elizabeth and Eden right behind them.
Belle and Shawn couldn’t stop smiling; they were finally married, and they were officially a family.
They shared their first dance as man and wife later that afternoon, pressing their bodies closely together. Shawn rested his lips against her cheek, and Belle couldn’t help but sigh happily.
Everyone had a wonderful time at the reception, but Shawn couldn’t wait to get his bride out of there, so they could spend their wedding night together.
Finally, when it was time to go, Shawn and Belle kissed the girls good night. They were heading to a hotel, and the girls would be staying with Shawn Sr. and Caroline that night.
They promised to pick them up the next day, and once the couple was alone in the limousine, Shawn latched his lips onto Belle’s, kissing her passionately.
“How do you feel Mrs. Brady?” Shawn asked, smiling at her, once he had pulled away from her.
“Pretty good.” Belle said, trying to catch her breath.
“Well, that’ll change as soon as we get to our hotel room,” Shawn said, winking at her.
“I can’t wait.” Belle said, leaning forward to give him another kiss.
And they were off, anxious to spend their wedding night together.

~The Wedding Night~
Shawn tried to be patient, as he waited for his bride to emerge from the bathroom. As soon as they had arrived to their hotel suite, Belle insisted on changing into something much more appropriate for their wedding night.
Shawn thought it was pointless for Belle to change; whatever she had bought wouldn’t stay on her body for more than a few seconds. It had been two days since he had made love to her, and even though he told himself he should be slow with her, he doubted that’s the way it would happen.
He was unbelievably happy; this was the second time he had gotten married, and he knew it would be the last. He remembered what he had thought of love and marriage after his divorce. He had told Belle that he didn’t believe in true love; but he had been mistaken. Shawn needed to blame something for his failed marriage to Jan, so why not lay the blame on his foolish notion that he had been in love with her? It seemed like the smart thing to do, but Shawn knew he had been wrong.
Shawn now realized what love was all about. Every time he thought about Belle, and how much he loved her, his heart soared with happiness. His love for her gave him life, and made him believe there was hope for the future.
He was becoming restless, so he stood up from the bed, and took off his tuxedo jacket. He threw off the tie he had been wearing, and decided to take his shirt off as well. He was left in his pants, and he walked around the room, making sure that everything was perfect. He had ordered a bottle of champagne, which was in a bucket of ice, sitting right next to the table in the middle of the room. They had a Jacuzzi in the bathroom, and Shawn couldn’t wait to try it out with Belle.
He clasped his hands, and checked his reflection in the mirror. His hair was neatly combed back, so he messed it up a bit. He turned around when he heard the click of the bathroom door opening.
His bride slowly stepped out, and Shawn watched her carefully.
‘****’. He thought to himself. ‘She looks amazing.’
Belle was wearing a luxurious satin chemise, with the hem falling just above her knees. It had beautiful embroidery, and the bodice was covered in lace and shimmering sequins. There was a matching robe, which was left untied. Shawn stared at her as she made her way over to her husband. Her hair was left loose and her curls tumbled around her shoulders. She had removed her lipstick, and was ready to be with her husband.
Her husband. Belle liked the sound of that. She smiled shyly at him as he continued watching her, with an obvious hunger in his eyes.
“Shawn?” She said his name gently, and kept her eyes glued to his.
“Yes?” He answered, smiling at her.
“I notice you’re quiet.” She said. “I’m not used to that,” She added teasingly.
“It’s just – what you’re wearing – it’s – wow.”
Belle let out a sigh of relief. “So you like it?”
“Of course I do,” He murmured. “Come here baby,” He said.
Belle complied, and stepped closer to him. Shawn extended his hands to touch her arms gently. He was almost nervous, as he continued to stoke her arms gently.
“I really love what you’re wearing,” Shawn said.
“I’m glad,” Belle whispered. She removed the robe, and threw it to the floor, winking at him once it was gone. “I can see that you wanted it off,” She told him.
“That’s not all I want off,” He mumbled.
Belle chuckled a bit, and put her hands on his chest. She loved the feel of his skin, underneath her fingertips. It was so smooth, and so hard. His chest was bare, and his abdomen was firm as she moved her hands down to his stomach. She heard him groan once she reached his zipper. She lowered it slowly, and inserted her hand inside of his boxers. His manhood had already hardened, and she grasped it in her hand, and stroked it slowly.
“Shawn, you’re so big,” She said, her voice filled with obvious pleasure.
She felt him flinch.
“Baby, you keep saying things like that, and I’ll lose it,” He said, his teeth clenched as Belle continued to touch him intimately.
“That’s what I’m aiming for,” She said. Her voice was almost unrecognizable; she felt so wanton, and so sexual, and it was killing her to see Shawn react to her so eagerly.
He was quick to push her hand away, and kick his pants away from his body, all in the same breath. He was left in his boxers. Belle stared at his erection, thinking about how it was going to feel inside of her. He would thrust inside of her, then he would take it out; she closed her eyes as she pictured everything in her mind. Shawn could be such a patient lover sometimes, and when he was, it drove her mad. He would take his erection out of her hot core, and she would beg him to enter her once again. He would then slowly inch his manhood inside of her, swallowing her moans with his hot mouth. She couldn’t help but place her hand on her breast, and stoke it slowly, delicately, knowing that would drive Shawn insane.
Belle felt her core throbbing with desire as she thought of Shawn, pleasing her to no end. She opened her eyes, surprised when she found Shawn staring at her with his mouth wide open.
“Enjoying yourself?” He asked seductively.
“No.” Belle said, winking at him.
“Belle, you are a naughty, naughty girl,” He said, smirking at her, and removing her hand from her breast. “I believe that’s my job,” He mumbled, as his hands took a hold of her luscious breasts.
Belle moaned, and allowed herself to get caught up in Shawn’s touches. That was what this night was all about; it was time for them to explore each other’s bodies, and pleasure each other, over and over again. She threw her head back, and closed her eyes as she felt Shawn lowering the straps of her chemise. She then felt his mouth latch onto her breast, and she couldn’t take it any more. She had to touch him; up until now, her hands were hanging loosely to her side. But that wasn’t going to be the case any more.
She threaded her fingers through his hair, pressing his mouth even closer to her cleavage. Shawn moaned her name breathlessly, his tongue flicking on each of her nipples, and he felt his manhood harden even more. He was sure it would fall off at any second – he was that hard. Only Belle could make him feel this way, and he couldn’t wait to plunge himself into her softness, and hear her call out his name.
But first, he had to give her a taste of what she was in for. He lifted her head, and asked her to open her eyes. She did as she was told, and felt her breath coming in quick pants as Shawn glanced one more time at her exposed breasts. He dropped her chemise lower, until it pooled around her ankles. She was naked to his eyes now, and he felt his manhood flinch when he realized she had no panties on. He stared the patch of blonde curls between her legs, and placed his hand on the most sensitive and cherished part of her body.
Belle had read plenty of romance novels as she was growing up. Loving Shawn from afar left alone in her bedroom so many nights, reading about sexual escapades, and she remembered wishing that Shawn would do half the things described in those novels. She never imagined what it would feel like to have a man’s hands on her core; she never thought it could be so intimate and so enjoyable. But feeling Shawn’s hands on her, inserting his finger into her slick heat, and looking into his warm blue eyes proved almost fatal for Belle. She found herself bucking against his hand, as he inserted another finger, and she felt her core dripping with desire. She felt waves crashing in her body, and she knew she was getting close to her first release. She said first release, because she had a feeling she would be experiencing more than one orgasm that night.
Shawn’s other hand touched her buttocks gently, and when he felt her muscles contract around his finger, he grinned when Belle threw her head back and murmured his name breathlessly.
“Did you enjoy yourself?” He asked, once she had come down to earth once again.
She made eye contact with him, and shook her head teasingly. “Is that all you got?” She asked, her eyes wide and filled with obvious pleasure. She was challenging him – he realized that.
“Baby, the night is young, and I’m not planning on going anywhere, are you?” He mumbled, as he placed his hands on her breasts again. He was suckling her nipples wildly, enjoying the sounds that were emerging from Belle’s mouth. She felt as though her knees would give out on her at any moment, so after a little while, she pulled his mouth away from her breasts. Even though her nipples were craving for more, she raised her eyebrows as she glanced at the hardness in his boxers.
“What have we got here?” She asked, cupping his manhood once again.
“Why don’t you see for yourself? I promise, he won’t bite.” He said, grinning at her.
“Damn.” Belle said. “I was hoping he would.”
Shawn chuckled, but he froze as Belle’s hands took a hold of his boxers, and quickly removed them. She slowly walked over to the bed, and lay down seductively, crooking her finger to him.
“Come here and love me Shawn,” She said, her voice filled with lust and passion for her husband.
She would never get over how good that sounded. He was all hers. And she was going to take full advantage of that.
Shawn didn’t waste any time; he searched for a condom, relieved when he finally found one in his wallet. He sheathed himself, and practically jumped on top of Belle. She squealed in delight once she felt Shawn’s weight on top of her. It always felt so good when she was underneath him; she knew what was coming next, and she gasped when he finally entered her.
“Isabella,” He said, biting his lip as he felt her core encase his throbbing member.
“Yes Shawn,” She whispered. She pulled him closer to her, and felt the urge to bite down on something as she began her upward climb to heavens above. She felt her breath quickening, and her desire for him increasing, with each passing moment. She closed her eyes as her body released its tension, and she cried out his name as she did so.
“Shawn, yes, yes,” She murmured.
Hearing her moan his name as she peaked was such a turn on. He took his erection out of her core, and smiled when he heard her whining.
He was sure to re-enter her, this time he was deliberately slow as he moved within her slick body. He was long, and hard, and he was going to release at any moment now. But before he did, he wanted to fulfill his wife one more time. He could feel her legs tightening around his waist, signaling the arrival of another orgasm. He could feel her nails digging into his back, and he lowered his head to her breasts, sucking on them greedily so she could feel the ultimate pleasure.
“Shawn!” She cried out his name once more, and she was there. Her entire body was still as she allowed her climb upwards; she stopped breathing, and closed her eyes tightly. When she re-opened them, she was breathless as she looked at her handsome husband.
“Thank you,” She whispered, touching his face gently. “But now it’s your turn,” She said. Belle placed her hands on his tight behind, and squeezed it tensely, encouraging Shawn to release.
But Shawn didn’t need any encouragement – he had been ready ever since the wedding, when he saw her taking those tentative steps towards him in the Church. She had the face of angel, he thought, and the body of a goddess. He smirked to himself when he thought of how far she was willing to go to please him. She thrust his face in her breasts once again, and kissed the top of his forehead gently.
How she loved this man. She couldn’t imagine her life without him, and she promised herself that one day, she would confess her love for him. She wouldn’t wait that long, and she prayed that Shawn would fall in love with her soon.
She would be a good wife; they had already been living together for months now, so there were no adjustments to be made. The only difference now, was they were lovers.
When she heard Shawn’s breath quicken, she knew he was there.
“Yes Isabella,” He said, murmuring her name over and over again, until finally, he released. He exhaled slowly as he lifted his head up, and kissed Belle’s nose affectionately.
‘I love you Isabella’. His heart said.
‘I love you too Shawn.’ Her heart answered.
Their hearts knew the truth, and they could feel their love for one another. Unfortunately, their heads still hadn’t realized the truth.
They were still trying to catch their breaths as Shawn slowly pulled away from her. He wiped the sweat that had formed on his forehead, and smiled when Belle sat up next to him. He put his arm around her, and kissed her forehead.
“Now that’s what I call a wedding night,” He said, grinning at her.
Belle giggled. “Yeah, I would think so,” She said.
“Let’s go and relax in the Jacuzzi for a bit, then we’ll have room service deliver us a late dinner,” Shawn said.
“That would be perfect.” Belle said.
A short while later, they were in the hot tub; Belle’s back was against Shawn’s hard chest, and she sighed happily. He had his arms wrapped around her waist, and she rested her head against the crook of his shoulder.
“Are you happy baby?” Shawn asked, moving his lips closer to her ear as he spoke.
Belle closed her eyes and nodded. “Yes.”
He kissed the side of her neck gently, and said, “Somehow I know that you and I going to have a great life together,”
“I think so too,” Belle murmured. His hands touched her breasts gently, and Belle groaned. It didn’t take long to ignite the flame between them, and before Belle knew what was happening, she found herself face to face with Shawn. They shared a long, open-mouthed kiss; Belle couldn’t tell where her mouth started, and his ended. Shawn wrapped her legs around his waist, and stood up. He walked her over to the suite, where he placed her on her feet, and quickly sheathed himself once again.
It wasn’t long before Shawn was entering Belle once again, and moments later, they released simultaneously.
They were still wet after their soak in the tub, so they decided to have a long hot shower together. An hour later, Shawn had just ordered room service for them, and they were sitting on one of sofas in a pair of complementary bathrobes from the hotel.
When their food arrived, the couple ate together, and engaged in a long conversation. They talked about the girls; work; the party coming up; their honeymoon. These two never ran out of anything to talk about – their conversations were always open, and direct.
It was after midnight when they decided to call it a night. Well, that’s what Shawn decided, but as soon as they lay under the covers with each other, they found themselves filled with desire, and made love for a third time that night.
The next morning, they had a romantic breakfast together. When it was almost noon, they decided to check out, and go to pick up the girls.
Elizabeth and Eden rushed over to Shawn and Belle when they finally went to pick them up. The two little girls were smothered in kisses, and the two laughed excitedly.
They went home together, and Belle was sure to clean up the house a bit. There were presents all around the living room, so she decided to open them, with Shawn at her side.
Nearly three hours later, they were finished. Belle retrieved a garbage bag from the kitchen, to throw away all of the wrapping paper. They were more than happy by the gifts given to them. Later that evening, Belle gave Eden and Elizabeth their baths, and after Shawn had ordered pizza, the girls were out like a light.
Shawn and Belle settled into bed afterwards, and Shawn cleared his throat when he thought of something he wanted to talk to Belle about.
He turned on the lamp, so they could face each other.
“Baby, I wanted to ask you something,” He said, turning to face her in bed.
“Sure, what is it?” She asked, giving him her full attention.
“Well, I wanted to know if you had looked into birth control,” He asked gently.
“Birth control? But I thought since you were using condoms, we wouldn’t need anything else,” Belle said, looking at him in confusion.
“Well, condoms are good, but I think it would better if maybe you looked into going on the pill. It’s almost 100% effective, and we don’t have to worry about a condom tearing, or anything like that,” Shawn said.
“But Shawn, I-“ She stopped, realizing what she was about to say. She was going to say, ‘I was hoping to get pregnant soon.’ But then it suddenly occurred to her why Shawn was talking about this. She felt her heart ache with pain, and she hoped she was wrong.
“Belle, I was really young when Jan got pregnant; I was only 18, and we definitely weren’t ready for a baby. And before you go and smack me, I should tell you that Jan and I always used condoms, but obviously, they’re not 100%,” He told her. “I’m not sorry that Elizabeth was born – her and Eden are my life, but I want to make sure that something like that doesn’t happen again,” He told her. “Do you understand what I’m saying?”
Belle swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat before she answered him. “I think so,” She managed to say.
Shawn took her hands in his and sighed. “Look, you’ve been a great mother to these girls, and I really appreciate that. But I look at them, and I’m still reminded of my stupidity, and the fact that I was irresponsible,” Shawn said. “I’m at a point in my life where I’m happy that they’re around, but I think two daughters are more than enough for me,” He said.
Belle bit her lip, trying to stop herself from crying. “You don’t want any more children, that’s what you’re saying,” Belle said, her voice shaky, and her hands trembling.
“That’s exactly what I’m saying.” He said. He noticed her displeased look, and he tried to explain himself. “Belle, maybe we should’ve talked about this before the wedding, but I thought you already knew how I felt. I mean, I’m only 22, and already I have two daughters. I’m thankful for them, but we all know how difficult it’s been for me – for us – to raise them,” He told her.
Belle pulled her hands away from his, and covered her mouth.
She would not cry.
She refused to.
She would not let Shawn know that he was breaking her heart. She didn’t want his pity. She wanted his child, growing inside of her. She didn’t realize how badly she had wanted that until now.
Belle knew she wouldn’t refuse him, so she agreed to see her doctor about going on the pill. He was relieved, but he could tell that this bothered her. He hadn’t even thought of talking about this with her before the wedding, and now he wished he had. Shawn knew it was selfish of him to ask Belle not to have any children with him, but he couldn’t help his feelings. He remembered how much he struggled to raise his daughters, and he was so afraid of going through that once more.
He glanced at his wife, who was silent as she looked down at her hands.
“Baby, I’m sorry,” He whispered. When he touched her shoulder gently, she flinched. “Belle?”
She refused to look at him. She was so angry with him, for not sharing the same dreams as her. She thought she had known him, but she had been wrong. Perhaps she was being irrational, but she couldn’t help it. She had no idea that Shawn felt this way, and was furious with him for bringing this up now.
“Belle, I know we should’ve talked about this before,” He said, in a slow and even voice. “And I’m sorry that we didn’t.”
“I’m sorry too,” Belle said, her voice dripping with coldness. “I wish we HAD talked about this before we got married,” Belle told him, her eyes filled with sadness as she looked at him.
“Would it have made a difference?” He asked, almost afraid to hear her answer.
Belle sighed. She knew the answer, but she wouldn’t tell him. Not now. She pretended to yawn, trying to appear much more tired than she was. “It’s late Shawn. We should turn in, if I’m going to get up early to make that doctor’s appointment,” She said bitterly.
She started to turn her back to him, but he grabbed her shoulder.
“Answer me Belle.” He said. “Would it have made a difference, had we talked about not having children before the wedding?”
She wasn’t going to tell him how she felt. If he knew the truth, he wouldn’t have such a guilty conscience. And she wanted him to feel guilty – for now anyway. So she decided to lie to him when she gave him her answer.
“Maybe.” She said. “Now please, can we drop this? It’s too late now; we’re married, and you’ve made your decision. Shawn Brady doesn’t want any more children, so we’re not going to have any children.” She said, her voice dripping with displeasure.
“No Shawn. Once I calm down, and I have time to digest this, really, I’ll be fine. But right now, you’ve broken my heart, and I just can’t look at you right now.” She said. She wanted to slap herself for admitting how she felt, but she couldn’t stop herself. She turned her back to him, and tried to forget about this.
Shawn sighed, and decided to give her some space. She had every right to be angry with him, and he turned off the lamp, and lay down. He had hoped to get some more loving from his wife that night, but he could see that wasn’t happening. He glanced at her, and noticed her back was still turned to him. What could he say to her to make her feel better? He wasn’t sure, but he had to think of something, soon.
Belle cried silently as she thought about Shawn’s admission. It killed her to hear him admit his feelings, but she knew that even though he didn’t want children, she still loved him. If he didn’t want any children, then she would’ve accepted it as a sacrifice she was willing to make for him. She just wished she could’ve known this from the start.
But it was too late.
She tired to slow her breathing down, and was determined not to let Shawn see her cry.
They spent the rest of the night awake, but were unable to reach out to each other, and talk about this.
“Belle, you can’t keep ignoring him,” Mimi said, as she glanced over towards the phone, which seemed to be ringing endlessly. “Stop being so stubborn; for God’s sake woman, you two are married now!” Mimi exclaimed.
They were sitting in the living room at the Brady house, having a cup of tea. Eden was in her room playing, and Elizabeth hadn’t come home from daycare yet. It had been two days since the wedding, and Belle still refused to talk to her husband ever since their talk about birth control.
Belle walked over to the phone, and knew by the caller ID that it was Shawn. But she wouldn’t speak to him, just like she hadn’t spoken to him yesterday.
Shawn had become extremely frustrated, and had turned to his buddy Philip. He then told his wife what was going on, and Mimi was over at Belle’s in a flash.
“I don’t want to talk to him; I have nothing to say,” Belle said, crossing her legs as she sat next to her friend on the sofa.
Mimi sighed, wondering how she was going to get through to her friend. “Belle, you can’t go on like this,” Mimi said, trying to reason with her. “Shawn is hurting here, and you two have to work this out,” Mimi said.
“Work it out? That’s easy for you to say,” Belle said. She looked at her friend closely. “Meems tell me, how does it feel to be carrying a baby – huh? A baby that you and your husband created together,” Belle said.
Mimi narrowed her eyes, and looked at her friend. “Belle, what kind of question is that?”
“Just answer it,” Belle said, tugging on her skirt, when she noticed it was out of place. “Tell me how it feels,”
Mimi thought for a moment about what she was going to say, and smiled. “It feels great. I mean, I feel like there’s a watermelon growing inside of me, but other than that, I’m happy. I can’t wait to give birth to my baby,” Mimi told her. When she noticed Belle’s eyes filled with tears, she leaned forward and put her hand on Belle’s thigh. “Honey, what is it? What does my being pregnant have to do with anything?” She asked.
Belle wiped the tears away from her face. She stood up, and shook her head. “I hate myself right now,” Belle mumbled. She paced around the living room and sighed. “Meems, for the past two days, all I’ve done is pout and feel sorry for myself, and I’m sick of it!” Belle exclaimed. “I mean, here I am, married to Shawn – MARRIED to Shawn? Did you hear me? And I’ve never been more miserable!”
Mimi stood up, and looked at her friend with concern. “Honey, you have to tell me what’s bothering you, or else we’ll never come up with a way to fix it,” Mimi said gently. She put a comforting arm around Belle’s shoulders, and gestured for her to sit down with her. “Now, take a deep breath, and tell me exactly what happened. Maybe I can help,” Mimi said, smiling at her encouragingly.
Belle exhaled slowly, and decided to tell Mimi the truth. “Shawn wants me to go on the pill,” She told her.
Mimi looked at her in surprise. “Yeah, so?”
Belle sighed impatiently. “Meems, he wants me to go on the pill, so that I don’t get pregnant – ever.”
Mimi was shocked. “Are you serious?”
“Yes.” Belle said, her heart breaking all over again. “You should have seen us; it was the first day we were married, and we were so happy! We couldn’t keep our hands off of each other, and then, before we go to bed, Shawn casually asks me if I’ve thought of birth control,” Belle said. She felt her eyes well up with tears once again.
“Oh Belle,” Mimi said. She pulled out a Kleenex out of her purse and handed it to her friend. “No wonder you’re so upset.” She murmured.
Belle wiped her tears away, and nodded. “Meems, I understand where Shawn is coming from; really, I do. He made a mistake when he was 18, and he ended up becoming a parent when he wasn’t prepared. He’s now 22, and he’s got two kids, and really, I see his point,” Belle said. She frowned for a moment as she continued. “I wasn’t going to suggest having children right away, you know? I was going to wait a couple of years, until the girls were a little older,” Belle said.
“I understand,” Mimi said gently.
“So when he told me he didn’t want to have any more kids, I was crushed!” Belle exclaimed. “I was looking so forward to making a baby with Shawn, and having it grow inside of me – I can’t imagine what that’s like, having a life inside of you, one you’ve created with the one man you love most in the world,” Belle said sadly.
“Which is why you asked me what it felt like to be pregnant,” Mimi mumbled.
Belle nodded. “You know, it wouldn’t have been so bad if we had talked about this before the wedding. I would’ve been upset, yes. But at least I would’ve known what I was getting into. And you know what Meems? I still would’ve married him. I love him, and I’m willing to sacrifice not having any children.” Belle said. “I just wish I had known.” She whispered.
“Oh Belle, come here honey,” Mimi said, hugging her tightly. Belle sobbed as Mimi held her. “You have every right to be upset; obviously, Shawn neglected to tell Philip why you were mad at him; he just told him you weren’t speaking to him, and he didn’t say why.” Mimi said.
“I didn’t think he would tell anyone,” Belle said quietly. “Maybe I shouldn’t have either, but I needed to get that off my chest,” Belle said, pulling away from Mimi’s warm embrace.
“Oh Belle, it was eating you alive – you had to talk to someone,” Mimi said. “Now look, you’re upset because he doesn’t want kids, and you wish he would’ve talked to you about this before, and you’re right. Shawn knows that, and obviously, he feels terrible about it,” Mimi said. “But you have to talk to each other Belle; you can’t go on like this. You’re miserable, and so is he, and you’re supposed to be happy. You’re newlyweds for God’s sake!” Mimi exclaimed.
“I know,” Belle said, looking down. “I’m just so hurt, and I don’t know what to do to make the hurt go away,” She said.
“You concentrate on your love for Shawn. Are you willing to lose him over this?” Mimi asked.
“Hell no!” Belle exclaimed. “I love him.”
“That’s what I wanted to hear,” Mimi said. “Belle, talk to him. It’s the only way you’ll feel better,” Mimi said.
“I know, you’re right.” Belle said. “But I don’t know what to say to him.”
“Don’t say anything – let him do all the talking. You understand where he’s coming from, and even I understand it. So it shouldn’t be too hard for you guys to work through this,” Mimi said. “Now when lover boy comes through that door this afternoon, don’t shut him out; you listen to him when he says he wants to talk.” Mimi said, in a stern voice.
Belle nodded. “Okay.” Belle said.
Mimi smiled at her friend, and touched her hand. “If you need me, you know where to find me.”
“I know. Thanks Meems. For everything.”
When Shawn arrived home later that night, he kissed Belle briefly before looking into her blue eyes. He could see she was still hurt, but he was encouraged when she didn’t pull away from his kiss, like she had for the past couple of days. He saw something in her eyes, and he wasn’t sure what it was.
“You okay?” He asked, putting his hand on her cheek.
“Yes.” Belle answered. She turned away from him, and said, “Dinner will be ready soon.”
Shawn nodded, and went to greet his daughters, still glancing at Belle in the kitchen. They ate dinner, and the girls asked if they could put in ‘Snow White’ in the VCR once they were done.
“Go ahead,” Shawn told them.
Belle washed the dishes silently, but she could feel Shawn’s eyes glued to her. She heard him clear his throat, and she turned to look at him.
“Yes Shawn?” She said.
“I, uh, wanted to talk to you,” He said, in a low voice.
To his surprise, she agreed.
“Let me just finish these dishes,” She said.
Shawn nodded, and waited patiently for her. She wiped her hands on the dishtowel next to the sink, and sat down across from him.
“Belle, I’m so sorry that I hurt you,” He said, his voice filled with sincerity. “You know that’s the last thing I wanted.” He said.
“I know.” Belle said quietly.
“I’m so glad you’re finally talking to me,” He whispered. “I’ve been going crazy, wondering how to make this up to you,” He said. “I know it’ll take a lot for you to forgive me, but I’m willing to do anything Belle,” He told her. Shawn reached across the table, and took her hand in his. “You mean too much for me to lose you over this, so I want to work this out,” He said.
“I understand. And we will work through this; I’m just going to need some time, that’s all.” Belle told him. She gave him a tiny smile. “I know how hard it’s been lying next to me at night, and not being able to touch me,” She said.
Shawn groaned. “Of God, it’s been torture!” He exclaimed. When he saw the smile reach her eyes, he felt his heart beating with excitement. “I’m so glad you’re smiling again. I’m so sorry I made you sad.” He said.
Belle nodded. “I know you are Shawn. I understand why you don’t want to have children. I just wish we could’ve discussed this before the wedding,” She said. “And just so you know, I still would’ve married you, despite what I said the other night,” She said.
Shawn let out a sigh of relief. “I’m so glad you said that,” He said, kissing her knuckles gently. “Oh Belle, I’ve missed you,” He murmured.
“I’ve missed you too Shawn,” Belle admitted to him.
Shawn glanced behind him, to make sure the girls couldn’t see them. “Is it okay with my wife if I kiss her?” He asked, grinning at her.
Belle nodded. “Your wife would like that very much,” She said softly.
Shawn leaned across the table, and met her lips for a sweet kiss. He sipped at her lips softly, and savoured the feeling of her mouth, moaning when he felt her opening for him. His tongue snuck in, and met her own for a long, and slow dance. She tilted her head to the side, not realizing just how much she had missed Shawn’s kisses.
When they pulled apart a few moments later, they were breathing heavily.
“Oh Gosh Belle, I REALLY missed you,” He murmured, as he pressed his forehead against hers.
“So I see,” She said.
They remained quiet for a few more minutes, until Shawn stood up. He suddenly remembered something, and told Belle he would be right back.
Belle was confused, but she remained seated as she waited for her husband to return. When he did, he sat down next to her at the kitchen table once again. He had an envelope in his hand, and he told Belle to open it.
“What is it this time?” Belle asked, smiling at him. She recalled the last time he had given her an envelope – it had been the adoption papers for the girls, and Belle remembered how happy she had been once she had opened it.
“What’s in here? Is it something that’s going to make me happy, or mad?” She asked.
“You’ll see.” Shawn said.
He awaited her reaction once she looked at what was inside.
“These are brochures,” Belle said, staring at them. “One is for Cuba, and the other is for Mexico…oh wait! This is for our honeymoon!” She exclaimed.
Shawn nodded, and said, “I thought you could look through these brochures, and decide where you want to go. Doug and Julie have already agreed to stay in Salem for the next few weeks, and they’re more than happy to watch the girls for us,” Shawn said.
“Oh wow,” Belle murmured. She flipped through the brochures quickly, not sure which place she should choose. Everything looked so…tropical. She knew she would need some time before she decided.
“I’d like to book our flight for next Saturday,” Shawn said. “See if you can make up your mind by tomorrow morning, so I can make the reservations,” Shawn said.
“Okay,” Belle said. She was so excited! She couldn’t wait to go on her honeymoon with Shawn, and she knew she had to buy a million things before she left. That only meant one thing – it was time to go for a shopping spree! She chuckled to herself, knowing that Mimi would be more than ready to go shopping with her. “I’ll let you know by tomorrow,” Belle said.
“Oh, and one more thing,” Shawn said. “Remember I told you about that party I was planning?” Shawn said.
“Yeah, the one where you wanted to get all your clients together,” Belle said.
“Yeah – I thought we could do it Friday night,” Shawn said. “Think that would be okay?” He asked.
“Of course!” Belle said. “I’ve already got some phone numbers for a couple of caterers that aren’t too far from us; I’ll talk to them tomorrow, and see what they’ll charge us,” Belle said.
“Sounds like a plan,” He said. “Thanks again baby,” He said, tenderly kissing her forehead. “This means so much to me,” He said.
“You’re welcome Shawn,” She said. “Now since we’re on the topic of the party, why don’t you tell me who we’re inviting?” She asked.
Shawn decided she was right, so they spent the next couple of hours, going through Shawn’s contact book. They found quite a few clients, and Shawn decided to make formal invitations and sent them out by mail.
“But we don’t have enough time,” Belle said. “Why don’t you email them?”
“Hey, that’s a good idea,” Shawn said, after he thought about it for a moment. “Yeah – I’ll talk to Rex tomorrow,” Shawn said.
“No, don’t talk to Rex - I’ll handle everything from home,” Belle said. “Just give me everyone’s email address, and I’ll be sure to email everyone first thing in the morning,” Belle said.
Shawn didn’t even have to think twice; he knew he could count on Belle to get this done for him. “Okay, it sounds good,” He said. “I’ll print out a list of my client’s email addresses. Oh, and make sure you email Cassie, and Philip – I wan them at the party too.” He told her.
“Will do.” Belle said.
Belle smiled to herself as she made a list of what she would need for the party. The food would be taken care of by the caterers, so she didn’t have to worry about that. She stood up from the kitchen table, and walked into the living room. Shawn was right behind her, curious as to what she was thinking.
“I think if we move the furniture over by the wall, and set up some tables,” Belle mumbled. “We could probably rent a couple, what do you think? We’ll hire a few waiters for the evening – dressed formally of course,” Belle said.
“That’ll work,” Shawn said.
“Okay; so then everyone comes in, and we’ll have the waiters serve some champagne, and some finger foods,” Belle said. She walked over to the front door, and said, “We’ll have someone who will greet them – either you or me,” Belle said.
“Or the both of us,” Shawn said, smiling at her.
“Or the both of us – I love the way you think,” Belle said. “Okay, so the guests are greeted; everyone comes over here,” Belle said, walking into the living room. “It’s a big room, so we’ll have some chairs placed, and everyone can sit down until dinner is ready,” Belle said. “So once everyone has arrived, we’ll make sure tables are set up in the dining room – I think we’ll need about four or five,” Belle said, as she walked towards the dining room, which was adjacent to the living room. “Yeah, this will definitely fit about four tables,” Belle mumbled. “Okay, so once we’re done, we’ll put on a little bit of music; nothing too fast, just something slow, and soothing, to put everyone in the right mood,” Belle said.
Shawn watched his wife, amazed at her ideas. He loved every single one of them, and had no doubt that the party would be a success with her by his side.
“So after dinner, we’ll set up a dessert table over in the living room, with some coffee,” Belle said. “Oh, but what about the girls?” Belle asked, frowning for a bit. “Do you think Doug and Julie would mind babysitting them that night?” She asked.
“Oh, they’ll be in town for quite a while, so don’t worry about that,” Shawn told her.
“Okay, so that’s the plan!” Belle exclaimed.
Shawn and Belle were excited to be planning their first formal function, as a married couple. Belle didn’t waste any time; the next morning, she emailed all of Shawn’s clients, telling them it was a black tie event. The clients were quick to respond, most of them excited at the prospect of attending a formal event at Detective Brady’s house. They obviously found it admirable for someone to go through the trouble of hosting a party; the message was sent loud and clear to all clients; Shawn Brady was someone who was pulling out all the stops for his clients.
The rest of the week, Belle found herself busy with the preparations. Julie and Doug were a God sent, taking care of the girls for Belle. She also had to figure out what to wear, and when Thursday arrived, Belle was frantic when she hadn’t bought anything.
Belle was lucky – once she was at Salem Place, she looked around for about twenty minutes, and finally found the perfect dress. It was a white evening dress, made of fine quality chiffon. It was adorned with little crystals, which softly shined. It was long, and fell just above Belle’s feet, and had thin straps adorning her shoulders. Belle was ecstatic when she learned it was the right size, and she bought it immediately. Belle found a pair of white sandals, which had a 4-˝ inch heel, and a silver buckle. They were perfect, and Belle wasted no time in buying them.
When Friday arrived, Belle was calm. Everything was set up, and she was thankful that Shawn had taken the day off of work. He ate breakfast with Belle, and then got the girls ready, so he could bring them to his Uncle Mickey’s house, where Doug and Julie were staying. The girls were going to spend the weekend there, and Belle gave each of them a kiss before they left.
“We’ll miss you Mommy,” Elizabeth told her, before she got into the car.
“I know sweet girl; Mommy’s going to miss you too. But we’ll see each other on Sunday for brunch, okay?”
“Okay.” Elizabeth said.
Belle hugged the two girls tightly, and promised to call them before they went to bed that night.
Once they were gone, Belle cleaned up the kitchen, and made sure the rest of the house was clean as well. She changed all the bed sheets, and made sure the finest of comforters were set in each of the rooms, in case anyone happened to pop in.
When it was early in the afternoon, Belle was relieved to see Shawn. He had picked up his tuxedo, and he kissed Belle quickly as she got ready to leave.
“Got your hair appointment now?” He asked.
Belle nodded. “I’m getting my make up done too, so just let the caterers in once they get here. They already know what to do. I should be home before the waiters and the DJ get there,” Belle said.
Once she arrived at hair salon, Belle decided to have her hair piled up in a mass of curls atop her head; her bangs were pulled back, but the look suited her. She was completely satisfied once her hair was done, so now it was time for her make up.
Two hours later, Belle arrived home, and found the living room set up with chairs. The rest of the furniture had been pushed off to the side, and there were small tables in front of the chairs. Belle walked into the dining room, and was impressed. There were a total of five tables lined up, with brand new table clothes pressed to perfection. The silver wear was already set, as well as the elegant china.
Belle glanced at her watch, and noticed that it was time for her to get dressed. She went up to her room, and gasped once she saw her husband. He was already in his tuxedo, and he looked wonderful. His hair was combed back, and she noticed he had put a little bit of gel in it.
He was wearing a white dress shirt, and black bow tie. The pants clung to his legs, and Belle looked up at his face, and quickly noticed his earring. There was nothing she found sexier than Shawn’s earring. He still had the qualities of a rebel, and that turned her on immensely.
“Like what you see?” He asked, lowering his voice.
“Definitely.” Belle said. “Now get out of here, so I can get ready,” Belle said.
“All right, all right,” Shawn said. He reluctantly left the room, and checked his cuff links. Everything looked good, and he was surprised when he heard the doorbell ringing. He quickly answered it, and smiled when he saw Philip and Mimi standing in front of them. He invited them in, and immediately after, Kevin arrived.
Shawn was talking to Kevin when his wife finally appeared. He noticed that Kevin had become speechless, and he turned his head, only to find himself shocked.
Belle was a vision of loveliness in her white evening gown; she was looking at Shawn intently, hoping he liked what he saw. As she walked over to him, she smiled at him.
“Before you ask,” Shawn whispered, kissing her cheek softly. “I love what you have on.”
“That’s all I needed to hear,” Belle said, obviously pleased. She felt a shiver run up her spine as she noticed the way Shawn kept looking at her.
An hour later, nearly everyone had arrived. The guests were mingling, and there was soft music playing in the background. The waiters passed around glasses of champagne, along with trays with finger food. Everyone was having such a good time, and Shawn noticed that everyone was impressed with Belle. She made a point of talking to all of Shawn’s clients, and they were intrigued with Detective Brady’s young wife.
Julian Crane arrived, with his sister Sheridan Crane, and his son, Ethan. Belle and Shawn greeted them with warm and polite smiles, and Ethan was immediately enchanted with the young Mrs. Brady. He kissed her hand gently, immediately complimenting her on the dress she was wearing.
“Why Isabella, I do believe that dress was made for you,” He whispered.
Belle smiled politely at Ethan and said, “What a sweet thing to say. Thank you.”
Indeed, Ethan’s eyes were on Belle all night, and that fact didn’t go unnoticed by Shawn. He didn’t like the way Ethan would find excuses to talk to Belle, and he could swear he was flirting with her. He was jealous, he knew that, but he would be damned if some young hot shot walked into HIS house, and into HIS party, to flirt with HIS wife.
Belle didn’t seem bothered by the amount of attention Ethan was paying to her. In reality, Belle was merely being polite, because he was a guest in her home. But she felt uncomfortable by the way he kept following her, and she could feel his eyes on her throughout the whole night.
When it was time for dinner, Ethan purposely sat next to Belle. She smiled at him politely, and glanced at Shawn, who was sitting on the other side of her. He seemed preoccupied, and Belle sighed. She wished she could tell him what was going on, but she didn’t want to bother him. Obviously, Shawn had something on his mind, and she knew she would have to speak to him about it later that night.
After dinner, everyone retreated to the living room. There was still soft music in the background, and this encouraged the couples to start dancing with each other. Belle was shocked when Ethan asked if he could dance with her.
Shawn was quick to notice this.
“She’s taken,” Shawn said gruffly, taking her by the hand and leading her away from Ethan.
Belle looked at Shawn, but said nothing as he refused to make eye contact with her.
“You seem to be enjoying yourself,” Shawn said, trying to appear calm.
“I –“ She stopped, confused. He didn’t sound sincere, and she didn’t like it. Here she was, putting up a big front, so he would look good in front of his clients, and he didn’t even appreciate it!
“Shawn, everything I’m doing, I’m doing for you,” She whispered.
Shawn laughed. “Oh really?” He said.
“Yes!” Belle exclaimed. “What’s gotten into you Shawn? You’ve been ignoring me all night, and I don’t like it,” Belle snapped.
“Really? Well, I see Ethan Crane has been keeping you company, so when did you have time to notice me?”
“Shawn,” Belle said. She couldn’t believe this. They needed to talk, but now was not the time. Until her guests were gone, she would keep her smile plastered to her face if it killed her. She didn’t want Shawn’s clients to have something to talk about, so she leaned closer and kissed his cheek softly. “Let’s just get through the rest of the night, and once everyone’s gone, we’ll have a talk,” She said.
“Fine.” Shawn said, in a monotone voice.
The rest of the night went very well, despite the fact that Shawn barely spoke two words to his wife. He was enraged every time he saw Ethan Crane look his wife’s way, and he was tempted to punch him. But he knew it wouldn’t be very professional, so he stayed away. He didn’t like the way Belle was being so nice to him, even though the rational part of his brain was telling him that she was being nice to everyone.
He sighed, and wished the night were over, so he could be alone. When it was almost 11:00, everyone began to leave. Shawn wasn’t surprised when Ethan was the last one to leave.
Ethan made sure to kiss Belle’s hand one more time, and Shawn resisted the urge to slam the door in his face. Once he was gone, he looked at Belle and shook his head.
“Are you going to tell me what’s going on with you Shawn?” Belle demanded, placing her hands on her hips.
Shawn didn’t say anything; he merely walked away, and made his way upstairs to their bedroom. Belle sighed impatiently. Something was eating at him, and she wanted to know what it was. She let the pins out of her hair slowly, and took her sandals off. Her feet were killing her, and she could swear her face muscles hurt from smiling so much.
When she finally made it upstairs to their bedroom, Belle was surprised when she heard the shower on. Shawn was obviously blowing off steam; she decided to confront him once he was out of the shower.
He walked in a few minutes later in nothing but a towel wrapped around his lean hips. Belle felt her heartbeat quicken once she saw him, despite the fact that she was still angry with him.
There was still water dripping over his magnificent body, and Belle glared at him as she stood in front of him. “What’s your problem Shawn?” She said, obviously very angry with him.
“My problem?” He said, looking at her intently. “My wife is flirting with a young and good looking man, right in front of my face, and you’re asking me what MY problem is?” Shawn said. He was ready to explode; he couldn’t believe this! Belle was at fault, and SHE was angry with HIM.
“Shawn, what the hell are you talking about? I was NOT flirting with Ethan. He was flirting with me, and I didn’t want to be rude, because I knew he was a very big client,” She told him. “He is after all, the son of Julian Crane, big time millionaire from Harmony,” She reminded him.
“Yeah right,” Shawn said, scoffing at her, and trying to turn away from her.
“No Shawn, it’s the truth,” Belle told him, pulling him close to her. “Why would you think that I was flirting with him? You know me – I’m not the type of person to do that. I made a commitment to you, remember?” She said gently.
But Shawn was filled with a sense of fear. What if one day, Belle fell in love with someone, and left him? What would he do then? He knew he was being irrational, but the mere thought of losing Belle was enough to send him over the edge.
“Hey, I saw the way you were looking at him – why don’t you just admit it?” Shawn said. He placed his hands on his hips, and looked at Belle directly in the eye. “You don’t want me – you want him. You think he is so sexy, and so charming.” Shawn said bitterly. “Go on, say it - I want you to say that you thought he was fabulous,” Shawn said.
Belle continued to stare at him, shocked as to what was coming out of his mouth. He actually thought that she preferred Ethan over him? Was he crazy? She shook her head, not sure of what to do next.
“Shawn, why are saying such hurtful things?” Belle said, her voice shaky.
“Because, it’s the truth.” Shawn said.
Belle stepped closer to him, and swallowed nervously. “You’re wrong Shawn.” Belle said in a low voice. She was shaking uncontrollably, but she told herself to remain calm.
“Yeah, right,” Shawn mumbled, looking away from her. But Belle put her hand on his cheek, and forced him to look at her once again.
“I love you Shawn,” She said breathlessly. “I’ve been in love with you since high school. Even when you married Jan, I was in love with you,” She confessed. Her eyes were filled with tears, and Shawn was shocked as he stared at her.
“No Shawn, you listen to me. I know that you think I was flirting with Ethan, but I wasn’t. I could never do that, because I love you so much.” She said.
Shawn was shocked. He couldn’t believe what Belle was telling him. He was so overwhelmed with her feelings, and he couldn’t help but pull her body closer to his, and crash his lips against hers, giving her a passionate kiss that left both of them breathless.
