Chapter 6 – Rated R
Shawn had been unable to get his legs to cooperate with him when he had come to on the bathroom floor a few hours ago. He had fallen back into a restless slumber on the cold tiled floor. He jerked awake, her name a soft caress on his lips. Belle. She was thinking of him. She was worried about. She was missing him.
I miss you too my love. Don’t fret little one. I’m counting on you to stay strong. Remember my darling, never waiver. You know what you have to do and I know what I have to do.
He gingerly pulled himself up into a sitting position and wrinkled his nose. His clothes were rumpled and spattered with vomit. He looked around the washroom and noticed the large towels on the rack. He could shower but what the hell was he going to do for clothes? He noticed a wicker hamper in the corner where he could place his soiled clothing. He slowly pulled himself up. The room didn’t spin, his knees didn’t buckle, his stomach didn’t protest. These were all good signs as far as he was concerned. He made his way to the vanity and cautiously opened the doors of the mirrored wall cabinet. He was surprised to find his brand of toiletries in plentiful supply. He opened the drawers of the vanity and found a manicure set, hair brushes and combs. There was also a rechargeable shaver still in its box packed and unused.
He stripped his shirt, pants and socks off and threw them into the hamper. As he splattered warm water over his face his mind was whirling. He knew he had to gain control of his emotions. He needed to be constantly alert looking for any opportunity to escape although he already knew the possibility of that happening was slim to none. He had been told by his uncle, his father-in-law and his own mother that escaping from the DiMera’s once they had you in a secure location was next to impossible. None of them had managed it. Not that he wouldn’t try; he just knew he would have to focus on other methods to ensure that his friends and family could find him.
Before showering he decided to check out the rest of his jail. As he wandered through the large suite of rooms he was taken aback by all the amenities provided. He had a microwave and well stocked fridge. There was an electric stove with a full oven. There was a note directing him to dial a certain extension to get the breaker turned on when he wanted to use the stove. Trust the DiMera’s to not trust anyone else. They must have thought he’d turn a burner up on high and threaten either Cassie or Tony if he overpowered one of them. He shrugged finding that level of paranoia slightly amusing. The feeling didn’t last long. This was just reinforcing what he had been told about the DiMera’s thoroughness when it came to ensuring that their quarry once trapped could never find a way to be free.
As he moved from room to room it dawned on him that the place was equipped for a long term stay. Whatever Tony’s plan for him was he obviously didn’t expect it to be achieved easily. He grew increasingly uneasy as he checked the closets and bureaus and saw new clothing, all his size. Everything he could possibly ever need including suits, ties, casual and dress shoes, exercise clothing, swim trunks, right down to the brand and style of boxer briefs he normally wore.
There was a fully equipped gym. He noticed that the weights were behind lock and key. There was an accompanying note of a similar nature to the one he had found on the stove. He was to call a certain house extension number when he wanted to use the weights. He could only imagine that meant that armed guards would be present if he decided to lift weights.
The last room was a den. There was a large plasma TV screen mounted on one of the walls. Two other walls were covered by wall units containing book, CD’s, DVD’s and tapes and the equipment necessary to view or listen to them with. There were more books than he could read in a lifetime or so it seemed to him and he was sure the video store that he and Belle frequented would be awed by the extensive collection of movies available for his viewing pleasure.
In every room there was a phone. He suspected it was a house phone only but he had to try. He lifted the handset to his ear. There was the welcome sound of dial tone but as soon as he tried dialing his parent’s number all he got was a fast busy signal. The phone was blocked from making outgoing calls.
He grabbed some clean clothing and headed for the shower. Before stripping he did a complete sweep of the room looking for hidden cameras. In the other rooms the surveillance cameras were visible. Tony wanted him to know his every move was monitored. That was fine. Be damned if he was going to let Cassie get her jollies by watching him strip naked before showering. Once he ascertained that there was no surveillance equipment set up in the bathroom, he stepped out of his boxers and into the shower. He turned the water temperature as hot as he could handle it and adjusted the spray. As the hot water beat down on him his muscles began to relax.
As the pulsating water drummed the tension out of his body his mind never relaxed. He was going over the details of the recovery plan that John, Marlena, his parents, Shane, Andrew, Derek Steve, Belle and himself had established after the infamous jailbreak. The meeting had been top secret so that word of it couldn’t get back to Tony. He knew that everyone back home would be doing their part; the rest was up to him.
The first thing he had to do was try and find out some information on his location. He sensed he was not in the U.S. any longer. He was sure he had glimpsed a large body of water through the trees that were visible through the windows. He had to study those trees a little closer. He hadn’t been able to determine what type of tree they were.
He assumed that Tony was going to have to allow him some contact with the outside world. Initially it would be with a lawyer. Tony would want Shawn to maintain the charade that he had left Belle for another woman. He also assumed that he wouldn’t be using a lawyer he had had previous dealings with but one hand-picked by Tony to do his bidding. Using the lawyer to get messages through to Belle and those looking for him was going to be tricky. He was going to have to be extremely careful. He decided not to attempt anything the first time the lawyer sent papers to Belle.
Belle. We wasted so much time the past couple of years. Why did we let it happen? He sighed as he turned his face towards the spray regretting the lost moments. They had drifted apart in the past two years both so caught up in their careers that they had let their personal relationship suffer. No matter what he had accused her of that day in the pub, he knew she had never stopped loving him just like he had never stopped loving her. Not loving Belle was something he couldn’t comprehend. He smiled ruefully. Can you even remember a time in your life when you didn’t love Belle? He remembered fighting it and denying it for a few years but that didn’t count. Just because he had denied the feeling existed didn’t mean that he hadn’t loved her even then. Their love had changed over the years and since she returned to him after a seven year separation it had deepened and matured.
A chill passed through him as the fleeting thought of another lengthy separation loomed. No way. No how. I will not be kept apart from her again for years and years. As he stepped out of the shower he silently vowed that when he was free of the DiMera’s he would not waste another moment of his life with Belle. He was done being resentful and churlish. He knew they would argue, with both of them sharing the stubbornness trait that was a given. The fact that they were both passionate in nature meant that they loved and fought with equal fervour. So they would argue. Better a no holds barred shouting match than what he had done in the past. Holding it all inside had led to his very public outburst a few short months ago. This time when they were reunited it was going to be different.
Cassie didn’t hold back her screams of delight as Matt’s skilful hands brought her to orgasm. She had convinced Matt to move the action to her bedroom. It hadn’t been difficult. She had made sure that he was in such a state of arousal that he would have done anything she had asked. He had always been reluctant to carry on their affair in her wing of the large house. Always mindful of their different stations in life. She smiled secretively. He would do anything she asked. After all she was a DiMera and no matter how gifted a lover he was it didn’t change the fact that he was only one level above a servant. He would do what she asked because she was the boss and he worked for her family.
As she kissed her way down his body she was planning her next course of action. As he writhed beneath her as her fingers and mouth brought him closer and closer to the edge she fantasised that it was a different man’s body, a different voice moaning in ecstasy, her name a plea on his lips and she felt her body tingle as she climaxed again at the same time her lover did. It didn’t take her long to have him aroused again. When he was hard and ready to slip into her body she pulled back and began to swirl his dark curly chest hair with the pads of her fingers.
“Matt, honey. I think Tony is losing his edge. He’s holding back on his plan for revenge against the Brady’s and Black’s.”
Damn woman. The last thing I want to do is talk about plans. He had to distract her. He slipped two fingers inside her and relished the small groan he drew from her lips. It wouldn’t be long and she would be begging for release. He got lost in the feeling and was shocked when she pulled his hand away and flipped over to straddle him.
“I need your help, Matt.” As she rubbed suggestively against him she guided his hands to the silken ties on the corner bedposts. After she had his hands secured she slid down his legs and did the same to his ankles. He lay docile. They had played these games so often and he knew the payoff was going to be as close to heaven as he would ever get. Sometimes he was the one that was bound, sometimes she was. Either way it was the biggest turn-on he had ever experienced. He was rock hard, anticipating the delights to come. He closed his eyes as her lips devoured his as their tongues mated. She positioned the tip of his penis against the opening to her womanhood and lowered herself so that only the rounded tip was inside. He tried to push upwards but she pushed his hips down.
“Uh-uh big boy. We do this at my speed not yours,” she growled against his lips. She held herself over him and slowly, tortuously lowered herself over the long, hot length of him.
Matt groaned his satisfaction when he felt himself fully enclosed within her warm welcoming depths.
“So are you going to help me, baby?” she crooned as she rotated her hips and felt him tremble beneath her. She did it again, smiling because she knew it was driving him slowly insane. “Matt…”
“Anything you want, babe,” he forced out between gritted teeth. He could feel the beads of sweat forming on his brow.
“I want you to help me get pregnant with Shawn Brady’s baby,” she said just before grinding down against him taking him even deeper inside her. Her lips crashed down on his swallowing his protest. He gave in to her kisses and let his body match the rhythm she set.
Just before he was going to ejaculate she rolled off him and he yelled in frustration growing even angrier when he saw the sadistic little smile on her face.
“I meant what I said, Matt. I have to get pregnant with Shawn’s baby and I need your help.” She caressed his inner thigh just stopping short of enclosing his throbbing rod in her fist. “We’ll still have our fun. Shawn could never satisfy me the way you do,” she purred as she dusted her fingers lightly over his swollen member.
“Damn it, Cassie. I’ll do what you want but can be discuss this after you finish what you started.”
She threw back her head and laughed as she mounted him again.
Matt listened as she chattered away happily afterwards. She can make all the plans in the world and I’ll appear to go along with them as long as they fit in with my plans. I’m sick to death of being cooped up on this island. Tony could pay for a plastic surgeon to change my looks but it doesn’t suit his purpose so I’m stuck here. Thank god Cassie was an eager and willing playmate. He tried to focus on what Cassie was saying.
“I love Daddy but he just can’t see how much Shawn loves me. He doesn’t understand that Shawn never really loved Belle. He was just with her because that is what his family expected of him. Now he wants me to wait before I have sex with him until he has a foolproof method in place, one that will make Shawn love me.”
“Make him love you?” Matt repeated.
“Exactly,” she snorted. “He already loves me but Daddy doesn’t see that. I need to get pregnant with Shawn’s baby and then we can put the plan into motion. Shawn will do everything I ask because he loves me so much and will want to have the mother of his baby with him forever. My father and I will have our names cleared and the DiMera’s can take their rightful place once again and the smug citizens of Salem can all go to hell as far as I’m concerned.”
“What about me, Cassie? I’ll still be an escaped convict.”
She snuggled against the length of him and rested her hand on his warm, broad chest. “I’ll make sure that you’re in Salem. I like how you make me feel. Shawn is too straight-laced to play our little types of games.”
“I’m just a sex toy to you, is that what you’re telling me, Cassie?” His eyes narrowed. He hoped he sounded sufficiently affronted. He really didn’t care how she looked at him. In the end he was going to take over the DiMera organization and if she continued to please him in bed, he would keep her around until he grew bored with her. Once he had the DiMera wealth and power behind him there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t be able to do.
“As I am to you but we fit together, Matt. Where I go, you go…unless….”
He wondered what was going on in that brain of hers and didn’t like the way her eyes narrowed as she contemplated her next move.
“Unless what, Cassie?”
“I was thinking that if Rex really can come up with a way to make Shawn think he is in love with me I can convince him to come up with something that will make Shawn a little more fun in bed if you know what I mean. Help him shed those good old Catholic inhibitions,” she winked as she began slowly stroking his manhood.
Matt cursed under his breath. He had thought Rex was out of the picture for good. “I thought Rex had mended his ways and was a now an upstanding solid citizen.”
“Can you believe those idiots in Salem bought it? He was just biding his time until he was needed. He’s been waiting to take his rightful place in the DiMera family and now’s his chance to prove his worth. He’ll see immediately that I’m right and father is wrong so he’ll side with me. In the meantime I need you to plan how I can get into Shawn’s room without being detected. You’ll also have to help me tie him down. He might protest out of loyalty to Belle but I know I can arouse him and then I’ll control him.”
“Cassie that’s a pretty tall order. You know that if the cameras fail, the guards will immediately head to his rooms. This is going to take some time to plan.”
“I suspected as much. You start working on the plan. I might not need it if Rex can convince father that Shawn does love me. I can’t wait to be pregnant with his baby. Just think before the year is out I’m going to be Mrs. Shawn Douglas Brady.” She stroked him even harder as she lost herself in her happy little world.
He fumed. “Cassie, untie me so I can love you properly this time.”
She did what he asked and she took him to heaven once again. He decided right there and then that he wanted exclusive rights to Cassie’s body until he was tired of her. In order to make that happen there was only one thing that had to happen. Shawn Douglas Brady had to die.
Chapter 7 – NC17
Belle tossed and turned in the king-sized bed that she had shared with Shawn missing him more than she had ever thought possible. I promise you my love that when you come home, when we find you, that I will never willingly spend another night without you sleeping next to me. She tried so hard to be strong but in the cover of darkness the tears slid down her face. She slid her feet to the floor and went out on the deck. She raised her tear-streaked face to the heavens and sent a silent prayer to those watching over Shawn.
God, please keep my husband safe and bring him home to me soon. We’ve spent more of our adult life apart than we have together. The first time wasn’t our fault but lately I accept all the blame. I was selfish. I’ll admit that but I promise you if you would just bring Shawn home I’ll be a better person. I’ll put his needs and the needs of others first.
Grandma Alice and Grandpa Tom, if you can hear me, please watch over your grandson. He loved you both so much and I know that if he can feel your presence it will comfort him. I still believe Grandpa Tom that if it wasn’t for you urging me to fight that night I lay dying on the side of the road that I wouldn’t be here today. Shawn and I wouldn’t have had all the time together that we did. I hope you don’t think it’s wrong of me to want more. There is so much unfinished between us. Please help him.
She made her way to the deck on the north side of the cabin and opened the door to the enclosed stairway that led to the large swimming pool.
She’s really suffering, my dear.
So is our grandson, Alice. We need to let him know that we’re watching over him.
It’s never easy for those two, is it?
Everlasting and eternal love never is. Belle was right. They do have a lot unfinished between them and if God will allow we’ll make sure that they spend many years together. I only hope that Shawn is found before…
Before what, Tom?
It’s not my secret to tell, dear. You’ll hear it hopefully the same time Shawn hears it.
Whatever do you mean? Why can’t you tell me now and how come you know and I don’t?
Because I’m Shawn’s appointed guardian angel, Alice. The day will come when you have a loved one to watch over and you will know things about them that I don’t. Things you won’t be able to share with me until they are known to all.
As she flicked the switches that lit the bottom of the swimming pool she was overwhelmed with memories. She clutched the railing and sank to the step and clasped her knees as she bowed her head and cried as if her heart was breaking. After what seemed like hours but was in truth a matter of minutes she sat up straight, squared her shoulders, took a deep breath and stood up. As she stood at the edge of the pool she looked up at the night sky. Thousands of stars lit up the night and she wondered if Shawn was somewhere staring up at the same stars. She hoped that was possible but if Tony had him locked away in a cellar he wouldn’t be able to see the sky at all. Another possibility was that he was taken somewhere far away from her and the time difference could be substantial.
“Damn the DiMera’s to hell,” she screamed her frustration. So many years of the life they could have been sharing had already been taken away from them because her father had tried to save her from the fate that Shawn was now enduring. As she stared out into the night she recalled the first time she had seen the pool. Shawn had surprised her with this addition to the cabin.
December 26, 2013 The Cabin
She giggled as Shawn tightened the blindfold. “I love surprises, Shawn. Can’t you give me just a little hint?”
“No. You’ve asked me that question about a hundred times already today. Did you really think I’d change my mind just before I reveal my surprise?” he chuckled.
Her heart melted. “Shawn,” she wrapped her arms around his neck, “you’ve already given me so much. Don’t you know that you are all I’ll ever want or need?”
“Belle”, he breathed against her lips capturing their sweetness for a short kiss.
She tightened her grip and deepened the kiss.
He tore his lips away hers and cupped her face. “I love you, Belle. With every breath I take, I love you.” He pressed little kisses on her forehead, on her eyelids through the blindfold, over her cheeks kissing away the dampness of her tears that spilled out from underneath the blindfold.
“I love you too, Shawn. I know it sounds trite but you and I are truly one half of each other’s souls. You complete me.”
“It doesn’t sound trite to me. We belong together, Isabella.” He hugged her and then swung her into his arms. “Now it’s time for your surprise.”
She felt herself being carried through the doors leading to the deck on the upper level of the cabin. She shivered slightly from the cool winter air. She thought that maybe he had the hot tub filled but she felt him make a turn so she knew they were on a different side of the cabin. She heard the click of a door being opened and then closed and couldn’t figure why he went back into the house. Why did he carry her outside only to bring her back into the cabin? As he set her down she reached for the blindfold.
“You really are impatient, aren’t you, little one. Let me get that for you.” He undid the blindfold and stood back to watch her reaction.
Her eyes widened when you took in the floodlights underneath the water of the large swimming pool. From the pool they moved to take in the structure the pool was housed inside. She turned to her husband whose face was wreathed in a big smile.
“Do you like it, Belle?”
She looked from him back to the pool and back to him. “What’s not to like? When, how, who…”
He cut off her string of questions. “We kind of got used to swimming just about every day in the ocean so I thought we needed someplace to swim when we came to the cabin.”
She ran her fingers down the buttons of his shirt. “I seem to recall going to that special hidden spot on the property to at least get wet.” She slowly undid the buttons as she kissed each inch of skin as it was revealed. She looked up at him from beneath her lashes. “I really like that little waterfall.”
He sucked in his breath as memories of her naked, wet flesh pressed against him danced through his mind. “Uh, that’s all well and good in the summer but I had this time of year in mind when I had it built.” He stilled her hand. “Do you like it?”
She glanced at the glass structure that sheltered the pool from the outside elements, the poolside furniture, the whirlpool tub off to one side, the poolside bar and stools and the small little cabanas for changing.
He saw her glance in the direction of another structure. “I even added a shower down here in case we wanted to rinse off before going upstairs.”
“I still can’t believe that you did this, Shawn.”
He noticed the little furrow that indicated she was thinking something over. “Go ahead and ask. I can tell something is on your mind.”
She smiled slightly. It still amazed her that he knew her so well. Sometimes she thought he knew her better than she knew herself. “I was just wondering if all this glass won’t make it seem like a sauna in here during the summer.”
“Actually the roof is retractable, sweetheart. Also several large segments of the glass panels can be opened as well just by flicking a switch. We can have the best of both worlds. When it’s beautiful outside we’ll open up the panels and when the weather is stormy or cold like it is now, we can just close everything up and stay inside our nice temperature controlled building.”
“You’ve definitely thought of everything,” she said.
“I had a lot of help with the design, Belle. I did hire an architectural firm to design the building around the pool. I told them how I wanted the pool utilized and they accommodated my vision,” he explained.
She slid her hands up from his chest over his shoulders to entwine her fingers in his thick, luxuriant hair. “What exactly did you have in mind for tonight, lover?”
He smiled that sexy smirk of his that always sent her heartbeat into overdrive and other parts of her body tingling. “I’ve missed you so much, Belle. I know we’ve been together the last two days in Salem but staying in my old bedroom didn’t exactly allow us to make up for lost time like we usually do.”
She felt the same. She had been on a location shoot since the first week in December in Prague and had met Shawn at his parent’s house on the twenty-fourth just in time to go over to his Uncle Mickey’s for the traditional Horton trimming of the tree.
“Then let’s not waste another second,” she said against his lips.
His hands grabbed her shoulders and he pulled her up against his chest as he planted kisses on her face and throat. He pulled back for a fleeting second to gaze into her beautiful face before his mouth swooped down to press his lips to hers. His tongue plunged inside her mouth and his hands were everyone at once. He wanted to reacquaint himself with her lush curves. Greedy touches that caressed her back, her behind, urging her harder against his growing manhood, and cupping her breasts. His thumbs brushed lightly against her nipples and they hardened instantly.
She felt totally consumed by him and she loved it. She didn’t think that she could ever get enough of him, his embrace, his love, his touch. She felt herself drowning in her love for him and the knowledge that he loved her just as deeply. She dug her fingers into his scalp as she met his tongue plunge for plunge until she thought her lungs would burst. She gasped for air noticing that he was breathing just as heavily, his chest heaving as he struggled to suck much need air into his lungs. She felt his trembling fingers on the hem of the sweater she was wearing ready to begin pulling it over her breasts. She clasped his hands in her firm grip. “Why don’t I run upstairs and model that sexy swimsuit you got me for Christmas,” she winked.
He pouted. “Why bother. You’re not going to wear it for long.”
The gleam in his eye belied the slight whine to his voice. “You can’t fool me, Shawn. I can tell that you can’t wait to see me in those teeny, tiny scraps of material that you insist is a bikini.”
He laughed and then grinned sheepishly. “I actually put it in the change room.” He saw the question in her eyes. “When you were busy unpacking the groceries, I carried our luggage upstairs and I brought it down here then.”
She gave him a quick kiss. “Let’s change.”
She took a deep breath before stepping out of the change room. She had never worn anything quite so revealing before. Thank god it wasn’t on a public beach. She didn’t know if she would have the nerve to carry it off. She smiled because she knew that Shawn was going to be bowled over when he caught his first glimpse of her in the tiny black ‘dental floss’ string thong bikini. She had made the adjustable front of the thong as tiny as she dared by scrunching it together using the ties on the side. The back was just another string. The thong was aptly named. It felt like all she was wearing was a piece of dental floss. The bra was an adjustable triangle top and she had adjusted it the way she knew her husband would like.
She didn’t know if she took his breath away or not because she was left breathless by the site of his bare, wide chiselled chest with the ever-present gold chain and cross. No matter how many times she got to see him in various stages of undress the impact was the same. He was the equivalent of some sort of irresistible sex god in her eyes and she knew that would always see him that way. No other man in the world would ever be able to turn her on like her husband could.
Shawn felt like he had been hit by an iron fist in the gut when he first glimpsed his incredibly sexy wife in the tiny scraps of black material that was supposed to pass as a bathing suit. He knew that his eyes reflected back the same glazed passionate look of her blue orbs. He gave her a signal to turn around so he could see the back. She did as he asked and he let out a small groan. “Jesus, sweetheart, you’re practically naked.”
She turned and smiled back over her shoulder before taking a few steps and diving into the deep end of the pool. She hadn’t broken the surface yet when she felt his fingers skimming around her waist. He lifted her up and came up for air as well. He kept an arm around her waist until he had moved to a spot where his feet could touch bottom. He lifted her high up in the water and laughed as she shook her hair, the droplets falling onto his face and chest. He brought her down flush against the wet hard length of his body. With his arousal pressed firmly against her stomach he kissed her, his tongue immediately swirling and stroking inside her mouth. She gave herself over to the sensations feeling herself melt, the warm sweet essence of her pooling between her legs.
His hand moved up her ribcage to cup her breast and she moaned into his mouth. “Shawn.”
“Hmm…baby,” he moaned as his thumb stroked the nipple that jutted hard against the nylon lycra of her swimsuit as his other hand moved to her bottom caressing the bare skin of her buttocks. He dropped his lips to her neck and tongued and nipped at the delicate skin found there.
She made a sound deep in throat that sounded suspiciously like a growl as she reached between their bodies to stroke the hard length of him.
“You want me, baby?” she purred.
“Oh god, yes,” he managed to say.
He didn’t have to answer her she knew by the sound of his shallow breathing and the pounding of his heart that he was as aroused as she was.
He reached for the strings at the side of the thong and she pulled away. “Not here, Shawn. I want to love you properly. I want to be in bed, our bed when I scream out your name.”
“Here, Belle. I want you right here and right now.”
She wavered when she saw the fire in his eyes. She was about to give in when she heard her stomach rumble and the mood was broken. She laughed.
“God, Belle. You want to stop and eat first, don’t you?” He had to smile. He knew his wife. They had skipped lunch and had had breakfast on the run. He doubted that she had even had a chance to eat more than a half slice of toast.
She was about to deny it but her stomach rumbled again, louder this time. “Do you mind?”
He took her hand and led her out of the pool handing her a large towel. “As a matter of fact I took the liberty of bringing some food down here earlier. When I had this built I made sure that we had a bar fridge installed behind the bar.”
She wiped herself quickly and slid onto one of the bar stools as Shawn pulled out a small tray. “Nothing fancy, dear. I just had time to make a couple of sandwiches. There are some pickles in this container, cheese in this one and some fruit if you need to satisfy that sweet tooth of years.”
“This will satisfy one of my appetites for now. After you’ve satisfied my other appetites we can always scrounge around for something else.”
Her low, husky voice and the sexual innuendo behind her words had him throbbing again. It was sheer torture watching her eat as she flicked away bread crumbs with her tongue. When she finally put down the half uneaten sandwich and pushed herself off the bar stool he was next to her in a flash. His eyes devouring her the way she had devoured the first sandwich. All he could think about was touching her. She looked like every man’s fantasy of a pin-up model in that bikini. Her breasts were high and firm, her stomach flat and her legs looked incredibly long. He couldn’t take it anymore. He ran his hands over her back before grasping her buttocks and thrusting his swollen penis against her flat stomach.
She gasped in delight when one hand moved up and caressed the side of her breast and she rubbed herself against him suggestively.
He crushed his mouth against her thrusting his tongue against her lips to part them but they were already open, welcoming the moist invasion and her tongue tangled with his slickness. His hands came up to hold her head firmly so he could gain better access to her mouth and deepen the kiss. She kissed him back matching his passion adding her own. He was so hard, his erection so hot and heavy he felt that it was going to bust through his swim trunks.
They kissed, kiss after mindless, numbing kiss. His fingers trembled against the ties at the back of the top of her swimsuit. They fumbled with the knot until he felt her rub against his chest and he just gave up. With one tug he heard the fabric rip but he didn’t care. He could always buy her another swimsuit. At this very moment all he cared about was baring her beautiful breasts so his mouth could feast on them. He knew he was out of control and he loved every second of it. He sucked one of her turgid nipples into his mouth as his tongue flickered over it. He heard her moan and he grew harder.
“Oh, Shawn. Don’t stop,” she pleaded.
As if he could.
He reached inside her thong, found her center and slid two fingers inside her. She was slick and wet and cried out in pleasure. He tried to strip off her bathing suit bottom but that ripped as well. He didn’t care. How could he care when he could feel his wife’s naked body against his as she alternated stroking him through his shorts while trying to divest him of them. It almost killed him but he stepped back away from her long enough to push the suddenly offensive trunks down his legs and step out of them. He stepped right against her hot, naked flesh. He kissed her again, his mouth open and seeking and felt one of her legs wrap around his upper thigh as she pressed her most intimate part against him.
She pulled her mouth away from him, “The bedroom. Let’s go up to the bedroom.”
The blood was roaring in his ears and he was hot and pulsing against her but he somehow managed to nod. He swept her into his arms and headed for the stairs. He might have gotten past the first step if she hadn’t kissed him. He kissed her back, the sensation wet and wild as he fondled her naked breasts. He felt his legs weaken and the next thing he knew he was sinking down with her in his arms.
“Uh, Shawn. We’re on the stairs,” she whispered when he was no longer supporting her. Her fingers brushed back the hair off his forehead and then tangled in the silky locks.
She was right. They were on the stairs but the bedroom was so very far away. He flipped their positions so that it was his back against the unyielding hardwood of the steps. He drew her onto his lap so that her knees were on either side of his thighs and he positioned himself against her opening.
Her eyes widened. “Here?”
“Here,” he rasped. “Now.”
Her eyes darkened with passion. “Oh, yes, Shawn. Yes. Now.” He thrust upward at the same time she lowered herself.
She was so tight, so very tight yet so slick. Beads of perspiration peppered his lower lip. He wanted to make this good for her but he was so turned on he was afraid he would split apart if he moved. He closed his eyes as she moved, lifting her hips so that he was partially out of her and then lowering herself until the entire length of him was inside her. He forced his lids halfway open to look up at her and sucked in his breath. Her head was thrown back in passion, her eyes closed and he marvelled at her beauty.
She anchored herself by placing her hands on the step above him as she lowered her hips once again. He couldn’t help himself. His hips began to move and than he was out of control.
He slammed into her.
“Oh, god. Faster, Shawn, faster.”
He went faster. The tension built so quickly that he knew he couldn’t slow down even if he wanted to. And god knows he didn’t want to. Still, he tried wanting to make it last for her. She didn’t want any of that. “Faster,” she panted as she thrust downwards taking him more completely inside her. He felt her inner muscles contract around him, heard him shouting his name and then he shattered in a burst so powerful that he shook from it.
Belle collapsed against him, breathing hard, her body as slick with sweat as his own. He held her tight trying to get his breathing under control.
It wasn’t until she spoke that he became aware of the hardwood pressing into his back.”
“We never made it to the bedroom,” she said.
He didn’t come out of his haze until she lifted herself off him, leaving him feeling bereft. He looked up at her, past the crown of curly blonde hair covering her mound, over her stomach and breasts to her beautiful face. He had watched her come and the look of ecstasy that he put on her face was well worth the slight discomfort of the location they had used. He gave her a crooked smile and stood up reaching for her. “I can’t guarantee that we’ll make it to the bedroom this time either.”
She giggled and the sound of her giggle had him growing hard again. He gathered her in his arms taking two steps at a time to hasten the upwards journey. It didn’t make a difference. They only made it to the hallway leading to their bedroom. They lay there together their sweat slicked bodies practically stuck together. When he felt her shiver slightly after they had cooled down he helped her up and they finally made their way to the bedroom. The bed was a welcome sight as he turned towards it until he felt her tugging on his hand.
He stopped and looked at her his eyebrow raised.
“I’m sweaty. I have to take a shower,” she smiled.
“Okay. I’ll just wait for you.”
“I was thinking that maybe you would like to join me?” She mocked him a bit by trying to copy his infamous eyebrow wriggle not quite succeeding.
“Oh, I can do that, baby.” He lifted her against him and carried her into the washroom. He quickly turned the spray on.
Belle kissed him long and hard her tongue touching and chasing his. He brushed his palms across her tight nipples and then squeezed her breasts lightly.
Desire swept through her and she reached down and grasped his incredibly hard erection. It was like caressing stone covered with satin-smooth skin. She stroked him, running her thumb up and over the rounded tip of his hot penis.
He moaned lightly and stepped into the shower stall bringing her in with him. The warm water that poured over their heads felt invigorating. He reached for a bar of her favourite scented soap and lathered his hands. He rubbed the suds all over her body paying a lot of attention to her breasts and the peaks of her stiff nipples. He washed her stomach and then washed between her thighs. Then he kissed all those places, long lingering kisses using both his tongue and his mouth. He knelt before her and placed her foot on his shoulder grasping her buttocks in his large hands. He combed his fingers through the blonde curls, tilted her pelvis toward his mouth and kissed her there.
She leaned her head back against the shower wall as the tension coiled tighter and tighter inside her. When he stood, she wrapped her legs around his waist. His smooth, hot erection slid against her and she trembled.
He lifted her and then lowered her onto his engorged penis. “I love touching you and feeling you where you’re all hot and slick. Where it feels so good. Where you feel so good.” He withdrew and then thrust into her again, moving his hips slowly at first.
“I love you, Shawn,” she whispered into his ear as she wrapped her arms more firmly around his neck.
He moved harder and faster as he thrust deeper and deeper into her. It didn’t take them long to reach yet another earth-reeling climax that almost sent him to his knees.
She hadn’t even realised that the water had cooled until he reached and turned it off.
He withdrew from her and lowered her to her feet. “Sweet baby Jesus,” he muttered under his breath before kissing her sweet lips.
Shawn had fallen asleep on the recliner. He had no idea what time or what day it was because he didn’t know how long the drugs he had been given had rendered him unconscious. He had been awaken from his nap by the sound of his wife’s voice. “Belle.” His eyes snapped open and he leapt to his feet. It was a few seconds before he realised that he had been just dreaming. He wished he could remember the dream. Judging by the tent in the front of sweat pants it must have been a very good dream indeed. For a brief moment he felt a twinge in his back almost reminiscent of how he had felt when he had surprised her with the built-in swimming pool and he hadn’t been able to control himself long enough to make it to the bedroom.
We will be together like that again, Belle. There isn’t a DiMera alive that keep us apart permanently. I love you, Belle.
July 13, 2016 Flour Mill Shopping Center, Spokane 12:25pm
As Belle made her way to the table she had reserved for lunch at Clinkerdagger’s she began mentally preparing herself to have a very public argument with Andrew. It wasn’t going to be easy because she didn’t like creating a scene and she knew that Andrew felt awful for the way he had acted initially to the news of Shawn’s disappearance. How could she blame him for believing that Shawn had actually left her for another woman when she blamed herself for the way she had taken Shawn’s love for granted?
She smiled at the maitre d’ as he led her to the patio. As he filled her water glass she told him not to send a waiter over until the rest of her party had joined her. She sat back and enjoyed the view of the beautiful Spokane River. She had purposely chosen one of the finest restaurants in Spokane. Not only was Clink’s well-known for its fine service and food, it was practically guaranteed to be full of both shopper’s and business people during the lunch hour. The fact that she had been tailed hadn’t escaped her notice either. She hoped the person following her managed to get a table so that they could be a witness to the staged argument and report back to Tony. The sooner Tony believed that his plan had worked the sooner he would feel it wasn’t necessary to have her watched. She would breathe a lot easier when that day arrived. The only part she felt guilty about was deceiving Roxy. They had grown very close and she felt bad that Roxy was going to be manipulated into an argument with her husband. She hoped that when Shawn was found and at home that Roxy would understand that they wanted to keep her and the girls safe from the DiMera’s. How ironic. I’m party to another deception all because of the damn DiMera/Brady feud. This has got to end once and for all so future generations never have endure anything like what Shawn’s and my parents and Shawn and myself have lived through.
Future generations? All of a sudden she sat up straighter, a wild thought crossing her mind. She reached for her purse to check on something but before she could the maitre d’ escorted Andrew and Roxy to her table. Belle stood up to embrace Roxy. Tears filled her eyes as Roxy whispered comforting words just for her ears. Belle took a quick glance over Roxy’s shoulder and noticed that Andrew was playing his part to the hilt. He looked sullen and was distancing himself from her.
Belle and Roxy ordered iced tea to drink; Andrew ordered a double scotch on the rocks which caused Roxy to raise her eyebrows.
“Don’t you have to go back to work this afternoon, Andrew?” she asked. She knew her husband was furious with her for agreeing to meet with Belle and for insisting that he join them.
“What if do?” he snarled.
Roxy was trying to hold back her temper. She knew the last thing Belle needed to be witness to was an argument between the two of them. “Do you think it’s wise to drink if you have to go back to work?” she asked cautiously.
“No, I don’t think it’s wise however I need something to help me get through this luncheon. You know how I feel about Belle and yet you dragged me here and expect me to act as if I don’t resent it.” Andrew inwardly cringed. He dreaded what he knew had to come next. He just wanted to get it over with. His innate English reserve had to be pushed aside. Public outbursts went so against the grain for him that he was telling Roxy the truth about needing the drink, just not for the reason he had given her.<br />
Roxy gasped slightly. “Don’t be rude, Andrew.”
Belle reached over and placed her hand lightly on top of Roxy’s and gave it a quick squeeze trying to reassure her that she understood. Before she could respond to Andrew the waiter brought their drinks and took their lunch order. In two quick swallows Andrew had the drink downed and was signalling for a refill despite the fire he saw shooting from his wife’s eyes. He was going to be grovelling for the next month, he just knew it but he also knew that he had screwed up royally once already on this case and he couldn’t afford to make anymore mistakes. His career was on the line. Screw my career. What’s really important is that I make this work so we can find Shawn. He has to be the main priority now. I’ve let him down. I’ve let Belle down. I won’t make that mistake again.
Roxy was steamed and growing more and more uncomfortable with Andrew’s boorish behaviour.
“Why don’t you tell me how you really feel, Andrew?” Belle decided that the best course of action was to get the show on the road. The sooner it was over with the sooner they could move on with the next phase. “I don’t understand this hostility you feel towards me?”
“You hurt Shawn,” he answered sullenly as he took a sip from his second drink.
“Excuse me. I hurt Shawn. Who the hell left who, Andrew?” Belle raised her voice slightly.
“Now, Belle…Andrew, why don’t we…”
“Roxy, it’s alright. I just want your husband to explain why he feels I’m to blame for the fact that my husband is a liar, cheat and a coward to boot.” Belle turned an icy cold stare on Andrew belying the heat of her words.
“Don’t you dare speak of my cousin like that, Belle. He loved you with all his heart and soul and you ignored him,” Andrew yelled, his face turning three different shades of red.
“Ahh, excuse me,” the waiter said hesitantly. “I’ve brought your food. Would you like me take it back to the kitchen until you’ve finished your…uhhh…discussion.”
“We’re engaged in healthy debate,” Belle snapped. “Just place the food down, thanks.”
The waiter quickly placed the food in front of them and refilled their water glasses before beating a hasty retreat. The other diners on the patio had grown silent but returned to their discussions when Belle made a point of pinning them with the same glare she had turned on Andrew. Roxy tried to catch her husband’s eye so she could signal him to drop the conversation but he wouldn’t look in her direction, even going so far as to ignore the light kick to his shin.
Belle gave up the pretense of trying to eat her meal and placed her fork down with enough force to draw Andrew’s eyes to her.
He knew they had to continue and he also knew that she hated it as much as he did. That was the only thing that was helping him get through this. They were doing what they had to do to keep Shawn safe until they could locate the DiMera hideaway and rescue him.
“If your cousin loved me so much Andrew how come he screwed around on me and got some two-bit whore pregnant?” she raged.
“Don’t talk about her that way, Belle. I’m sure if Shawn loves her she has to be a wonderful person,” Andrew said smugly.
“But you just said he loved me. So does that mean I’m a wonderful person as well,” Belle pushed.
“No. You’re a horrible person for doing what you did to Shawn. He waited for you for all those years when your own father perpetrated fraud by arranging your disappearance. He never believed for a second that you had committed suicide. When he found you barely alive on the side of the road he took care of you. He fought to prove you were his Belle. And how do you repay him. You go off and become some big Hollywood screenwriter and forbid him from joining you on the sets. You stay away from him for weeks if not months on end and you wonder why he went out and sought companionship. Thank god he found a woman who was willing to give him what he wanted.” By that point no one else on the patio was paying any attention to their meals. All eyes were riveted on the one table where the heated argument was taking place.
“Andrew, please,” Roxy said in a soft, urgent voice.
“You condone adultery, is that what you’re saying, Andrew?” Belle yelled. “I’m sure your wife is thrilled to hear that. Does this mean that you’re just like your cousin. Doing it with any cheap slut that will spread her legs for you?” Belle felt like crawling into a hole.
“Belle, I’m sure Andrew didn’t mean that he approved of Shawn’s actions. He would never cheat on me,” Roxy stated firmly.
“Don’t speak for me, Roxy. I do approve of Shawn’s actions. He did what was right for him. I would never do that to you because you’re the best wife a man could ask for. Belle abandoned Shawn and their marriage and she got what she deserved,” he said stubbornly.
“Not once did Shawn ever talk to me about his feeling of abandonment, Andrew. Not once did he give me any indication that he was feeling slighted. He never said anything until he blew up the day of Jonathan’s christening. A real man would have confronted me and told me what he was thinking. A real man wouldn’t have walked out on me in a snit like Shawn did that day. And a real man would have told me to my face that he was leaving me to be with another woman that he had been stupid enough to knock up. Not be a coward like your cousin and leave me a stinking note. A fucking note, Andrew. That’s all he left with me…a fucking note.” She did her part and broke down in tears.
Roxy glared at her husband and pushed back her chair and went to Belle. She rubbed her back comfortingly just like she did when one of her precious daughters was upset.
Andrew looked ashamed. “I’m sorry, Belle.” He lowered his voice a bit. This was the part where they were supposed to make amends. “I will admit that Shawn should have talked to you and told you to your face that he was leaving.”
“He hurt me, Andrew,” she sobbed.
Andrew looked more and more uncomfortable. “He was hurting too, Belle. It’s probably for the best, don’t you think? He’s found someone else and moved on. Maybe you should let it be and move on as well.”
Belle sighed. “You’re probably right, Andrew. I think Shawn and I were stuck in our teenage years. We were so in love or so we thought and then we were ripped apart due to circumstances. If we would have been allowed to continue I’m sure we would have split before we were through college. When we found each other after all those years we got caught up in the emotions of our past and let that carry us forward.” It killed her to talk like that. She loved Shawn so deeply and even now she could feel his presence. She had been so stupid and she would never forgive herself if anything bad happened to Shawn. Hell, she would never forgive herself for treating him the way she had. She still couldn’t believe that he done so.
Roxy breathed a little easier. “How about we put this conversation to rest and finish our lunch.”
Belle gave her a shaky smile. “Sounds good to me but first I want to apologise to Andrew. I’m sorry I got angry with you.”
He waved off her apology. “I’m sorry for my behaviour as well. Shawn is my cousin and I suppose I do feel a strong sense of family loyalty is due but you are a close friend to both me and Roxy. I’ll do better and remember that in the future.”
“How are those three adorable little girls of yours?” Belle asked, signalling that she felt they had succeeded.
Andrew heaved a big sigh of relief. Thank god that was over with.
Roxy’s eyes lit up. She loved talking about her girls. “They’re really excited that Auntie Belle has come for a visit.”
Andrew laughed as he took his wife’s hand in his. “We’re not exactly sure the excitement is due to the fact that they’ve missed you or that they think we’ll be getting an invite to come over and use that beautiful swimming pool,” he chuckled.
Belle’s eyes lit up. “I have a great idea. Why don’t you come out and stay with me for a couple of weeks? You can drive into work from the cabin. I’m sure Roxy, the girls and I can find things to do when you’re not around,” she teased.
“I’m sure you could but we wouldn’t want to be a burden.”
Belle’s mood changed as she grew more somber. “Seriously. It would mean a great deal to me. I had a really rough night. So many memories…” her voice trailed away as tears filled her eyes. These weren’t forced tears, these were real.
Roxy and Andrew exchanged glances and he nodded his head. He had read the question in her eyes.
“We’d love that, Belle. The girls will be thrilled when we tell them. When would you like us to come?” Roxy asked.
“How about tomorrow? I’ll go and do my shopping this afternoon and I’ll get the place ready for the Donovan family invasion. I can’t wait to see Misty, Storm and Wynter again. It’s been…oh my gosh…it’s been over six months since I last saw them.”
Andrew sat back silently thanking his lucky stars that Roxy had not blown up and called him on his boorish behaviour. The fight with Belle was bad enough and it was only staged. He was sure she would have some choice words for him on the way home but he would deal with that when the time came. He pushed the scotch away and reached for his water glass.
The other diners went back to their meals when they realised the fight was over. No one really paid much attention to the man seated at a table at the far end of the patio. He liked that. He made a call on his cell. “Hey, Mr. D. They bought it hook, line and sinker. They all think that he knocked up some chick and left his wife.”
July 14, 2016 DiMera Compound 8pm
Although Shawn didn’t know it about the same time that Andrew and Belle were staging their argument at Clink’s Tony was showing him a video tape of Belle’s press conference. He sat stoically through it listening to Belle call him a coward. He didn’t even flinch when she refused to be addressed as Mrs. Brady. He knew that Tony was showing him this tape to demoralize him. His eyes flicked over to Cassie. She was out and out gloating. Her glee in the destruction of his marriage would be funny if it didn’t highlight her delusions. He wondered just how demented she really was. He was going to have to be very careful.
“I’ve arranged for a lawyer to contact Belle’s attorney, Mitch Ryder on your behalf. Don’t worry, Shawn. You’ll be a free man before you know it.”
“Yes, Shawn. You’ll be free and then we can be married just like it should have been all those years ago,” Cassie chirped.
“Marry you?” Shawn said incredulously. “What ever gave you the idea that I wanted to marry you?”
“Cassie, I told you to stay quiet,” Tony turned on her his fury clearly visible in his eyes.
“Cassie please leave us alone. I have some things to discuss with Shawn.”
Shawn looked at Cassie, her lower lip trembling as tears formed in her eyes, and knew that she was going to be his best bet of getting information that would help him escape. He would have to take advantage of every chance he was given. He saw that look in her eyes. He knew she was still obsessed with him and he vowed that this time he would use that obsession to help him reunite with Belle. I wish I would have recognized that look in college. Things could have been so different if I would have listened to Belle and not dismissed her warnings as nothing more than jealousy. In front of Tony he would remain cool and ignore Cassie as much as possible. If he knew Cassie at all she would find a way to get to him without Tony having knowledge of it. His only fear was that she might do something to immobilize him. He wanted her to think that he was interested in her but he didn’t want to actually have to touch her or caress her. The thought of touching any other woman in that way was inconceivable to him.
Shawn turned his attention to Tony after Cassie left the room.
“You don’t seem to be interested in who you attorney is, Shawn. Aren’t you the least bit curious?” Tony asked.
“You’ll tell me when you’re good and ready to so why make the effort,” Shawn replied calmly.
“Ah. You know me well, Mr. Brady. Glad to see that you’re not ranting and raving and spouting off threats and promises of revenge. Perhaps you’ve learned from your parent’s mistakes that you can never really outsmart the DiMera’s. You thought you had gotten rid of us for good after I was sentenced to death. But here I am living in the lap of luxury and you’re my prisoner.”
Shawn wanted to wipe that smug smile off Tony’s face but he held his temper in check. “The truth of the matter is Tony that you are just as much a prisoner here wherever the hell we are, as I am. You can never walk the streets or go out in public ever again. The second you do you will be arrested and taken back to a jail cell.”
“I’ll concede that you’re correct for the moment, Shawn. The delicious irony of it all is that you are going to be the one that changes all of that. I won’t fill you in on the plan now. Just suffice it to say that you, Shawn Douglas Brady are going to be responsible for the complete and total downfall of the Brady and Black families.”
For the first time since he had realised what had happened to him Shawn felt a twinge of fear. He couldn’t take Tony’s words lightly. He knew that Tony would stop at nothing to take revenge on him and his loved ones. “You’d have to change me into a different person to make that a reality,” he challenged.
“That’s exactly what I’m going to help my father do, Shawn.”
Shawn’s head swivelled in the direction of the voice. Rex DiMera. Shit, we all thought you had broken all ties with your family.
“Rex, son.” Tony got up and embraced the man he had not seen in several years..
“Dad. It’ s great to see you again. Thank you for trusting me with this. I promise you that I will do you proud. By the time I’m finished with Shawn he will be nothing more than a mere puppet of the DiMera’s. All you will have to do is pull the strings and he will dance to your tune.” Rex captured Shawn’s startled gaze with his own. “Guaranteed.”
The icy, evil tones of Rex’s voice caused the hair at the nape of his neck to stand on end. Shawn hoped the fear that had filled his soul wasn’t showing when he met Rex’s penetrating gaze. He had to blink. I can’t be seeing what I see in his eyes. I must be imagining it. He blinked again hard and what he thought he had glimpsed in Rex’s eyes was no longer there. His eyes were void of any emotion.
“Why don’t you finish what you were saying father and then you can explain your plan? Once I have a full understanding of what you hope to accomplish, I’ll know better how to approach my … uh…research,” Rex said as he flashed another quick look in Shawn’s direction.
“I was about to tell Shawn who his attorney is. I’m sure he’s already figured out that the attorney is on our payroll and that he won’t do anything unless I give the go ahead. So you won’t be able to slide anything past us that would alert your lovely wife that you really aren’t the bastard she thinks you are.”
His last statement was meant as a warning. One Shawn felt he didn’t need to hear. He already knew that he wouldn’t be able to pass any information directly through the lawyer. That didn’t mean he couldn’t use the lawyer indirectly without Tony being any the wiser. “You’re obviously waiting for me to ask, so okay, I'll play along. Who’s my attorney?”
“It’s none other than your good friend, Ken Kramer.”
Shawn couldn’t hide his surprise. Ken Kramer was one of his professors. They had got along quite well and had become good friends. The normal teacher/student boundaries weren’t there probably because Shawn was several years older than any of the other students. He wanted to ask how, why, but he kept silent. He could tell that Tony was really enjoying his little reveal. Oh god. Did I ever mention to Ken the preparedness plan we had in place if either Belle or myself went missing? He kept his eyes on Tony as his mind ticked off the different conversations the two men had engaged in over the past few years concerning the DiMera organization. He felt a little better after he came to the conclusion that he had never talked about the possibility of Tony or Cassie coming after either Belle or him so he wouldn’t’ have had any reason to discuss what they would do if that event ever occurred.
“I can tell that you really want to know how he came to be working for us. Once I learned that you two were friends I had Professor Kramer thoroughly investigated. It seems like your good friend Ken has a penchant for young co-eds. A few compromising photos and he agreed to do as we asked. I guess when it came down to tenure or loyalty to his friend you came out on the short end of the stick, Shawn. Mr. Kramer has sent divorce papers to your wife’s attorney. You’ll agree to any of her terms when it comes to a settlement and your little marriage to Ms. Black will be over and done with.”
Shawn smiled wickedly.
“What the hell are you smiling at, Brady? I just told you that you’re marriage will soon be over and done with. I’m saving you the trouble of filing of your own volition. You probably wouldn’t have followed through with that threat you made in front of your friends and family but they nor the lovely Belle will ever know that.” Tony was growing annoyed with Shawn. That silly smirk was still on his face.
Shawn wasn’t about to tell him that they obviously didn’t know Belle very well. She would be very suspicious if he just gave her everything she asked for.
Rex stood back studying the two men. He knew what he had to do. It wasn’t going to be easy but he was confident he could pull it off. He was tired of being separated from his family. He was lonely. “Dad, you probably don’t want to hear this but I don’t think that is such a good idea. Wouldn’t Belle become suspicious if Shawn just handed over everything she asked for without a fight? I mean, if you wanted a divorce from a woman that felt betrayed wouldn’t you expect to have a fight on your hands when it came to a settlement.”
“True, Rex. We’ll wait to see what her attorney’s response is. I also have to listen to a tape of a conversation Belle had with her parents the other day. It should have been in that package you brought off the plane with you. I didn’t have time to listen but our man in Salem told me Belle talks to her parents about a settlement. Besides in the note Shawn wrote he said he wasn’t going to fight her over a settlement.
Shawn smiled inwardly. Oh Tony. You just don’t get it. I did say that but you don’t understand that between a couple as deeply in love as Belle and I are that there is fight and then there is FIGHT. Wait…he said plane. That means we’re not close to Salem; something he had already surmised from the limited view of his surroundings that he had got through his windows. The feeling of satisfaction he got didn’t last long when Rex came into his line of vision again. He’s the wild card. We were all so damn sure he was on the up and up now. He’s been living such a quiet, uneventful life in Salem. God, he’s even helped the Salem PD on occasion. Damn he’s far more dangerous than Tony or Cassie. He’s more like Stefano than either of those two can ever dream of being. Biding his time. Waiting for years and years to extract his revenge. God knows why he felt the need to take revenge. What the hell had the Brady’s ever done to him? I guess he blames us for spending time in jail for his part in covering up Cassie’s murder of Colin. He wondered if anyone had thought to watch Rex more closely since he was abducted. They had discussed it initially but as time passed his name had no longer come up. He had done nothing in all the years following his release to arouse any suspicion whatsoever. In fact, after the infamous jailbreak surveillance on Rex had been intense. Shawn didn’t doubt for a minute that Rex could have found the means to bypass any type of electronic monitoring the ISA threw at him so it’s possible that he had always been reporting back to Tony.
“Do you want to fill me in on your plan now or do you want to wait until we’re alone,” Rex asked.
Tony smiled. “I think Shawn should hear how he is going to be instrumental in destroying not only his family but his wife and her family as well. Will that interfere with the method you choose to help further my plan if he knows what the desired outcome is?”
“It might make him fight it more but that doesn’t bother me,” Rex shrugged, indifference etched on his face.
Shawn listened closely his horror increasing as Tony outlined the plan as he had explained it to Cassie. Holy Mary Mother of God. He’s right. If his plan succeeds it will be the end of the Brady’s and the Black’s. The thought of being married to Cassie and having children with her was sickening but the thought that he would be responsible for sending his Isabella to prison was killing him. He couldn’t listen to this anymore. “No…no fucking way. You’ll have to kill me. I won’t do anything like that to Belle or to my family. I won’t,” he yelled, jumping up from his chair.
Before Shawn could blink an armed guard was in the room with an automatic weapon trained on his chest.
Tony laughed. “Do you really think you have any say in the matter you silly boy?” He turned to the guard. “Escort Mr. Brady to his quarters. We’re done with him for now.”
Matt Turner’s Room
Matt sat at his desk in the small office that was part of his suite. He knew his rooms were under surveillance. He grinned wondering if Cassie knew that. He didn’t care that their little sexual exploits were captured on tape. Hell when he was in control of the DiMera empire he might just use them to keep little Miss Cassie in line.
He pretended to be surfing some porn sites on the net. He wasn’t really looking at the pictures but he knew that he couldn’t be caught on tape looking like he was lost in thought for long periods of time. Mr. DiMera didn’t think he was capable of forming thought. Mr. High and Mighty thought that he had to be given explicit orders or he wouldn’t be able to accomplish anything. He had let him think that. It served his purpose and would help him achieve his goal. He hadn’t spent years of his life in prison or working his way up in the DiMera organization to become Tony’s right hand man for nothing. Tony thought he had been recruited. Let him think that. He, Matt Turner, had manipulated circumstances and had made sure he was recruited into the DiMera organization. He only joined the ISA because he knew that was one way he could get his foot in the door. From there his plans had gone forward. He knew it would take years and years for his ultimate plans to come to fruition but that had not been a deterrent.
He silently stewed keeping his anger at a slow boil. Cassie’s bit of news had rocked him in more ways than one. He had not factored in the possibility of Rex returning to the fold. He knew that he could get rid of Tony but Rex might prove to be trickier. Of course Rex was here to help Tony in his ultimate plan of revenge against the Brady’s and the Black’s. Damn their plans. He couldn’t care less about bringing down the Brady’s and the Black’s. Well he didn’t care personally. He cared because Tony’s stupid plan was what he was counting on to help him take over the organization. Tony would be so distracted by trying to carry out Stefano’s legacy of revenge that he would leave himself vulnerable. Tony’s vulnerability would allow him to move in and take over the reins of power and dispose of Tony quickly.
Damn that snot-nosed genetically engineered frickin’ genius. Damn him all to hell. Having him in the picture was going to make things very difficult. He couldn’t let their plans succeed. If they were successful then Tony and Cassie would have their records cleared and they would be free to come and go as they pleased. No matter what Cassie said about wanting him with her even after she married Shawn he knew that Tony would have him taken care of immediately. He was of no more importance to Tony than a disposable lighter that had run out of lighter fluid. Tony wouldn’t want anyone left alive that had knowledge of his plans.
One thing was clear. He couldn’t let Cassie marry Shawn Brady. She was going to marry him, Matt Turner, whether she wanted to or not. It was one thing to take over a string of illegal operations. After all the only thing that mattered was survival of the fittest. And he knew that he was the fittest.
I haven’t done all this for nothing. I’ve put in almost fifteen years of servitude to the DiMera’s as part of my plan to gain control and destroy them. Nothing and no one will stop me now. Not when I’m so close that I can taste success.
Somehow he was going to have to find out what Rex’s exact plans for Shawn were going to be. Once he had that information he could formulate a plan of action. He only hoped that at some stage of the game Tony, Rex and Shawn would all be in one of the rooms of the estate that wasn’t under electronic surveillance. He had his allies on the security force in place. His course of action was clear. Before Tony succeeded in any portion of his plan and before Cassie could bed Shawn, he was going to have to kill the three men. Cassie would be the sole heir and as her husband he would have total control over the DiMera fortune.
He smiled. A twisted smile that had it been witnessed by anyone would have put the fear of Jesus into them. It's sheer evilness enough to turn non-believers into believers. Then and only then would he reclaim his rightful identity. As far as the entire world knew he was Matthew Jonas Turner. Only he knew different. Only he knew that he was in fact the one and only Phillip Robert Kiriakis. The true and rightful heir to the Kiriakis empire.
Rex and Tony were enjoying a brandy after their evening meal. Tony adhered to the European custom of late dining. Tony was in great spirits. The total destruction of the Brady dynasty would at long last transpire. He would carry out his father’s legacy. He would succeed where his father had failed. He wished his father was alive so he could bear witness to the havoc Tony was about to wreak on the Brady’s and the Black’s. He was man enough to admit that a small part of the reason he wished his father was still alive was so that he could in some small measure gloat and boast that he had managed to achieve the one goal his father never could. He loved his father but not the feeling of inadequacy that he had always felt around Stefano. His father always managed to make him feel as if he was disappointed in me because he wasn’t quite living up to his exacting standards.
Rex sat silently watching the various expressions and emotions revealed in Tony’s eyes and on his face. He had to be alert and aware. He had to watch for just the right time to broach the subject he wished to discuss.
“Well my boy, are you formulating your plan on how best to achieve our goal?” Tony broke the comfortable silence between them. “Cassie might be a problem. She wants instant gratification. I keep telling her to have patience and before she knows it she will have the one thing she has always wanted.”
“Shawn Brady,” Rex said succinctly.
“Exactly. She absolutely believes that Shawn loves hers and always has. You’re going to have to talk to her, Rex. She’ll listen to you. You are the only person she trusts totally and completely.”
“I love my sister but she has blinders on when it comes to Shawn. She always did. I will talk to her, Dad. I haven’t got my plan all worked out yet but if I use the method I have in mind it’s going to be critical that Cassie not upset Shawn. I can not have him worrying about fighting off her advances. Anger and fear produce faster brain activity. I need Shawn as calm as possible under the circumstances for my method to work.”
“I have Shawn’s quarters under constant surveillance. I will notify the security guards to notify me immediately if Cassie disobeys me and enters his quarters on her own. I have told her she can only see him when I’m willing to accompany her.”
“Does she have anyone inside that might help her bypass your security measures? Cassie is single-minded when it’s comes to the pursuit of Shawn Brady. At least the Cassie I remember did. You would be in a better position to judge if that has changed over the years.”
Tony laughed. “God, I wish, Rex. I think she’s still stuck up on that hillside that the two of you landed on when you came to Salem. She became fixated on Shawn Brady right then and there and that fixation is as much a part of her today as it was back then.”
“I suspected as much. Now what about inside help? You didn’t answer that.”
Tony sat back for a moment giving the question a lot of thought. “She’s very close to my hired gun, Matt Turner. She might ask him for help.”
“Will he help her?”
Tony waved his hand in dismissal. “He won’t do anything without my approval. The man doesn’t think for himself. He only follows orders like all good soldiers should do. And make no mistake, Matt is a good soldier. Even though he turned state’s evidence on me that was all part of our escape plan. He would fall on his sword to protect me. I’m not worried about him at all but I will make sure that he gets the message.”
Rex needed to form his own opinion of Matt Turner’s character. “Can you do that now? I would like to meet this man that you say is so loyal to the DiMera cause that he would lay down his own life for you.”
Matt slunk into the dining room furious that he had been summoned like a disobedient child. He straightened up and masked the fury in his eyes, showing no outward or visible sign of either his anger or disdain for the man who had asked for his presence.
“Ah, Matt. I would like you to meet my son, Rex. He has agreed to help me with Shawn and my plan to destroy the Brady and Black families and regain prominence once again in Salem and throughout the world,” Tony smiled.
“I’ve heard a lot about you, Mr. DiMera,” Matt said subserviently. “It’s nice to finally meet you. Your father always said you were just biding your time by playing the good citizen of Salem until you could take your rightful place in the family again. I’m glad the time is now. What are you plans and what can I do to help?”
Rex distrusted the man on sight. He was going to have a serious talk with his father. This man, Matt Turner, was trouble with a capital T. He felt it. This was going to make a difficult situation almost impossible and it increased the danger level tenfold. Rex knew that he was going to have to be extremely careful. Tony obviously trusted this man with his life whereas Rex wouldn’t trust him with the time of day. “My plans aren’t exactly formulated,” he responded as he briefly shook the man’s hand. “For now there is one thing that my father needs for you to do. Father,” Rex turned to Tony. He felt the order would be better received coming from the normal source. He didn’t want to do anything to get on Matt’s bad side although he sensed the man hated him. Hates me? That’s a strong emotion to tag him with. How can he hate me when he doesn’t even know me? Maybe I’m seeing and sensing things that aren’t there. There’s no disputing I’m walking a tightrope and one wrong move could mean complete failure of my plan to regain my rightful place. I can not fail. I will keep a close eye on Mr. Turner but I have to think Tony knows him best. For now I will take Tony on his word but I’m going to have to do some checking on this man. I can’t shake the feeling that nothing is as it seems with him.
Matt turned to Tony. “What can I do for you?”
Tony clamped his hand down on Matt’s shoulder. “I want you to keep Cassie away from Shawn Brady. Under no circumstances are you to help her get Shawn on her own. She will have the man but within the boundaries of my master plan. I can’t have her screwing things up because she’s hot to bed the man. Do you understand what I’m asking of you?” Tony asked in a very condescending manner.
Fuck you. I don’t want her sleeping with the man either but I just might help her to screw up your plans if nothing else. You pompous jerk. Of course he didn’t vocalise his thoughts or reveal them through body language or expression. “I understand completely, Mr. D.” I have to find out the plan. “When you know how you are going to move forward be sure to let me know if I can be of any assistance. I know how much the success of this mission means to you and I want to help you achieve your goal.”
Tony slapped Matt on the back. “Good man. I knew I could count on you.”
“Always,” Matt said although he was cursing the man’s arrogance under his breath.
After he left the room Rex turned to Tony. “You know I trust your judgement implicitly, Dad but I just get the feeling that not everything is as it seems when it comes to Mr. Turner.”
“What do you mean, Rex?” Tony asked his curiosity aroused.
“I can’t quite put my finger on it. Just promise me that you’ll keep your guard up around the man.”
“Of course, dear boy. Now why don’t you go see if you can talk some sense into that sister of yours. I hope she will listen to you but I doubt anything you say will make an impression.”
As Tony watched Rex leave the room he couldn’t help but think that finally he was close to having everything he had always wanted. His two children living and working with him and the downfall of the two families that had brought nothing but heartache and pain to the DiMera family for generations. How sweet of Rex to worry about me but he is wrong about Matt Turner. There is no danger from a man like that. A man that basically was born to follow orders and to never really think for himself. Rex has lived for too long among the mundane, lower class citizens of Salem. He doesn’t realise how special he is. He was born a DiMera and that automatically makes him better than anyone around him. I’ll have to teach him that. Tony laughed. He found it ironic that he could teach his son who had been genetically engineered to be a genius anything. But he could and he would. He raised his glass of brandy to his father’s portrait. “Skoal,” and laughed again. Now that’s irony. Toasting the good health of man that is long dead. Life was good as far as Tony DiMera was concerned as he slammed his glass down on the table and walked out of the room.
July 15, 2016 11am DiMera Compound
Rex knocked on the door to his sister’s bedroom. There was no way he was going to make the same mistake he had made last night. The sight of her and Matt Turner’s naked bodies was still burned into his mind. He shuddered as he tried to push the images as far back into his subconscious mind as he could.
He waited and then knocked again, a little louder this time.
“Go away. You can clean my room later,” Cassie yelled.
“You can come inside. Don’t worry. I’m alone,” she answered.
He wrinkled his nose in disgust. “Why don’t I wait for you in your sitting room?” He heard her smug laughter. She knew that he didn’t want to come into her room because he didn’t want to be reminded of what he had walked in on the night before.
“Sure. I’m going to take a quick shower. Why don’t you ring for some orange juice, coffee and croissants?”
The breakfast tray had just been delivered when Cassie came out of the bedroom running her fingers through her wet hair. She ran over to her brother and gave him a big hug. “Oh Rex. I have missed you so much,” she choked out.
“I’ve missed you as well, Cassie. I was so worried about you when you were sent to prison. I know how you hate being locked inside small rooms.”
She pulled away and turned her head but not before he glimpsed the tears. “I don’t want to talk about that, Rex. I survived and I’m never going back to prison. I’ll die before I let anyone lock me up again.”
“Don’t say that, Cassie. You do realise that you are an escaped felon. The possibility of being sent back to prison is a very real one.”
“I’ll be cleared as soon as Shawn tells everyone that the ISA manufactured the evidence against Tony and me. Soon Belle and John will be in prison as well as Hope. I hate that Shawn’s mother will be locked up because I know Hope loves me like a daughter. She is going to be so happy that Shawn and I will finally be together the way we were always meant to be.”
Rex sat back and listened to his sister. He was astonished at her complete inability to see things the way they really were. Tony was right. She was just as delusional when it came to Shawn and how he felt about her as she had always been. Even more so now if that was even possible.
He sighed heavily.
“What’s that for, Rex? Don’t tell me that Daddy has gotten to you. He thinks you have to do something to Shawn’s mind to make him think he loves me but you and I both know that’s not necessary. You know that Shawn loves me and will do anything for me. All we have to do is tell him the plan.”
“He knows the plan, Cassie,” Rex said soothingly. “He knows the plan and he voiced his objections very strenuously. Shawn told us that nothing I could do to him would ever make him stop loving Belle.”
“No…NO…he loves me,” Cassie raged.
Rex took her hands in his. “Cassie, you trust me, don’t you? You know that you are the only person in the entire world that I truly love. We are part of each other. We have a connection that can never be broken.”
“But…” she whimpered.
“Cassie, Shawn doesn’t love you,” he said softly.
The pain in her eyes took his breath away. He really hated to see his sister hurting like this.
She blinked a few times, willing the tears away. “Then you will make him love me.”
Her eyes had a gleam to them that he could only describe as fanatical. “I will do everything I can and Shawn will love you, Cassie. I need something from you, Cassie though or I can’t guarantee that I can make it happen.”
“Anything, Rex. I’ll do anything you ask. The sooner Shawn loves me the sooner I’ll be free to move back to Salem with my husband and begin raising a family with him.”
“I’m glad to hear you say that because I need you to promise me that you will stay away from Shawn until I am finished with him. It’s imperative that you do not try to seduce him or force him to have sex with you. Do you understand?”
She gasped. “I want him, Rex and no matter what you say, I won’t have to seduce him. I bet he can’t wait for me to come to him.”
He shook his head in dismay. “Cassie, I just told you that he doesn’t want you, he doesn’t love you. Hell I bet he doesn’t even like you,” he said harshly.
Her lower lip quivered. “I can make him have sex with me. You know that certain parts of men’s body will react to stimuli and all I need is to get him hard and then I can do the rest.”
“No. If you do that, Cassie my plans will almost certainly fail.” He had the feeling that nothing he was going to say was going to change his sister’s mind. Christ, I hope Tony’s little warning to Matt was taken to heart and that the security measures work because Cassie is too far gone into her own little fantasy world to listen to reason. I’m not going to be able to talk her out of doing something stupid. Something that will jeopardise my plans.
She seized on the one word in his statement and clung to it. “Almost. So your plans might still work even if Shawn and I sleep together.”
He mentally kicked himself for leaving her the little bit of wiggle room. “They would have an extremely slim chance of working and I do mean extremely slim. However, if you do as I ask my plan will work and that’s a guarantee you could take to the bank.”
“Extremely slim sounds good to me, Rex. Everything is going my way. Shawn loves me and is here with me because this is where he wants to be.”
“Jesus, Cassie. Shawn was kidnapped from the home he shares with Belle and brought here against his will. How the hell can you say he is here because he wants to be here?”
“There’s no need to shout, Rex. Shawn left Belle and he was just waiting to be brought to me. This is what he wants,” she said stubbornly.
“I’m begging you, Cassie. Please don’t try anything. Promise me.”
She giggled and hugged him again. “Only because you are the one asking will I agree.” She didn’t let him see her eyes because she knew he could read her to well. She had no intention of staying away from Shawn. Hopefully Matt had figured out a way for them to bypass the security in Shawn’s room and she could bed him today. She doubted that she would have to tie him down. She saw the look of lust in his eyes when she had been caressing his face. He wanted her and he was waiting for her to come to him.<br />
From Cassie’s room Rex went searching for Tony. He found him sitting outside on the deck with a stack of newspapers from all over the world on the glass-topped table. He looked up when he heard Rex’s footsteps echoing across the flagstones. “Son, good to see you. Would you like a glass of iced tea? Reka will be setting up a buffet lunch out here in a couple of hours.”
“Reka. That’s an unusual name. I take it she’s a local?”
“Yes. It’s Maori, means sweet. And she definitely is sweet, very sweet indeed,” he said with a smile on his face.
Rex decided it was time to change the subject. He definitely didn’t want to hear anything about his father’s sex life, he’d seen more than he wanted to of his sister’s last night.
“I’ve spoken to Cassie. Dad. She’s going to be a problem. She agreed to stay away from Shawn but she was only telling me what she knew I wanted to hear. She is seriously in denial when it comes to Shawn Brady’s feelings for her. From the little time we spent together last night I don’t think there’s a chance in hell that Shawn has any feelings for Cassie. But…”
“But, what? You don’t seriously think that Cassie is right and that Shawn has always loved her.”
“No, I don’t believe that but Shawn is soft-hearted. If he shows her the slightest bit of compassion he’s only going to add fuel to her delusional fire. He has to be out and out cruel to her and even then I’m not so sure that Cassie will give up her fantasy. What concerns me is the Shawn Brady I remember doesn’t have a cruel bone in his body. He’ll try and let her down gently and that would be a grave mistake.”
“I see your point, Rex. Maybe I should have a little talk with Shawn and apprise him of the situation. Perhaps he’ll co-operate if he thinks it will buy him time to try and escape.”
“Good plan, Dad. He wouldn’t willingly agree to do anything a DiMera asks of him but if he thinks it would be to his advantage he just might go along with it. Why don’t you let me talk to him? I want to try something. If it works I’ll do a little more studying on the method and that’s what I’ll use to achieve the ultimate goal.”
“What’s that?” Tony’s curiosity was peaked.
“I think the best way to gain total control over Shawn is by using hypnosis. I believe I have developed a type of deep hypnosis that once the subject is placed into a clinical trance, I can get them to do anything I ask of them. The hypnotic suggestions will be planted so deeply the subject will not even be aware of them and the beauty of it is no one will be able to prove the subject is programmed. Just think of it, Dad. You know that his family will order all kinds of tests run on him looking for implanted micro-chips, checking his blood for drugs and the beauty of it is they won’t find anything. Only you and I will ever know the trigger phrases. We will have total control of Shawn Brady.”
“He’ll do anything we ask?”
“He’ll do anything I suggest to him when he’s in a hypnotic trance. I think it’s safer that way. Keep it simple. That way there is less chance of someone saying one of the catch phrases in his presence and setting him off. That would be disastrous depending on what the catch phrase was supposed to trigger.”
“I don’t know, Rex. It sounds like we would be leaving the door open for the scenario you just presented to actually happen.
Rex heard the scepticism in his father’s voice and knew he would have to convince him otherwise.
“Not really. All we want from Shawn is three things. One, we want him to make a statement that the ISA with Belle’s co-operation manufactured the tape that was used to convict you and Cassie. Second, we want him to testify that he witnessed his mother shooting Colin Murphy on December 31, 2002 and that he had blocked it out for all these years because the memory was too horrific to process. Third we want him to think that he loves Cassie. You don’t need him to do other things for you. You have paid minions that can carry out your dirty work for you.”
“True. Simple in this case would be better. Rex, you really are a genius. The Brady’s and the Black’s will cry foul stating that Shawn is under mind-control or the influence of some drugs but they won’t be able to find any evidence of either. Ingenious, my boy. When do you want to start?”
“I want to do some preliminary testing with Shawn as my subject. I have to find out if I can get him into a trance without his knowledge. I’ll start with something simple. I’ll have to do several tests before I can implant the three ideas into his deep subconscious that will help bring down his family and the Black family.”
“When do you want to start? You fly back to Salem late tonight. We have to see about getting you here for a long-term stay,” Tony said.
“Not a good idea, Dad. The long-term stay. That would place suspicion on me and that’s the last thing we need. Right now the ISA and all the other agencies have more or less forgotten about me and I’d like to keep it that way.”
“Good thinking as usual son.”
“I’d like to try the hypnosis on Shawn now. Would that be alright?”
“Sure. Let’s go up to his suite. This should be fun to watch,” Tony smiled and rubbed his reading glasses against his vest before rising from his chair.
“I really need to be alone with Shawn, Dad. I can’t have him distracted by a third party in the room. It’s crucial that he be focused on me and only me. I’m going to start with something very simple. I’m going to implant the suggestion that he ask for access to the weights so he can do some lifts and bench presses every time you say Shawn, you’re looking fit today. Can you remember that phrase, Dad? I’ll contact you using a prepaid cell in a couple of days and we’ll see if my little experiment worked.”
“Of course I can remember that. I’ll let the guards know you’re going to be entering his suite.”
“No, Dad. I need to do this in a secure room that is not monitored. The cameras will really throw him off. It would be just as if you were in the room. Remember I need him…”
“Focused only on you. I’ll have him escorted to my study. You will have complete privacy in there. The door locks from the inside.”
“Dad, I trust you. Do you trust me?” Rex asked quietly.
“Of course. Why do you even ask such a silly question?”
“Because I have to ask you for your word that your study is not under any type of surveillance. Shawn was a cop. He’s not stupid and if he even senses that he’s being listened to or watched secretly, it’s not going to work.”
Tony looked long and hard into his son’s eyes. Rex held his gaze.
“The room is wired for sound. My living quarters are not under surveillance but the peripheral is. The balcony off my bedroom and sitting room has mounted cameras but no sound equipment. Will that do?”
“I’d really like to have him a bit off-balance. Do you have a secret room or rooms in the basement?” He felt that there was bound to be more than one or two such rooms. He didn’t know of a DiMera mansion that didn’t have a few hidden rooms sequestered in its depths.
“Actually there is. It hasn’t been opened in months. It might be a bit dusty. Let’s go check it out.”
After looking around the eight by twelve room that was bare except for a hanging light without a shade Rex proclaimed it as perfect. “I just need a small table and two chairs.”
Tony led him to a storage room and helped him carry the items into the room when Rex said he’d prefer that no one knew he was going to use the room. After Tony left to have Shawn brought to him, reminding Rex that he would have to have a security guard bring Shawn to him, he sat at the table gathering his thoughts. If he thought dealing with Cassie and Tony was difficult, he knew what followed next between Shawn and he was going to be even more difficult.
Shawn resisted being pushed into the small room. The man that came into his suite had slapped handcuffs on him and pulled him roughly from the room all without uttering one word. He turned when the door was slammed shut and was shocked to see Rex sitting there.
“Sorry about the handcuffs, Shawn. I’ll get them removed.”
After Rex had to order the guard to remove the cuffs under threat of dismissal and then practically shove him out of the room so that they could have the privacy required, Rex turned his attention back to Shawn.
“What’s to stop me from attacking you and using you as bait to gain my release,” Shawn asked.
“You could do that, Shawn, but you won’t. You’re too smart of a man to think that you would get very far. You’re vastly outnumbered and you’re being held on an island. Even if you eluded the gunshots, where could you hide?”
Shawn digested the information. He wondered if Rex knew that he had provided him with a bit of information he hadn’t had. He had seen water but he hadn’t known that the estate was on an island.
Rex knew that Shawn didn’t know he was being held on an island. He had deliberately let that slip in an effort to get Shawn to pay close attention to what he had to say.
He had one thing to bring up before he could get started. “Cassie loves you Shawn and she thinks you love her. Do you?”
“Are you as nuts as she is? I don’t love her. I despise her. It’s because of her that Belle and I were torn apart our first year of university. We lost all that time together because of your sister’s obsession with me.”
“Make sure you tell her so, Shawn. She’s my sister and I love her but I can’t get through to her. Don’t feel sorry for her. Don’t let her down gently. Come at her with all barrels blazing when she makes her move.”
Shawn grew suspicious. “Why are you telling me this. What do you gain? What does Tony get out it?”
Rex sighed. “Shawn, you know I love my sister. This obsession is not healthy. She’s under the mistaken impression that you feel the same about her. Only you can tell her different. Maybe she could have a chance to live a normal life if she would just give up on you.”
“Excuse me. Normal life? She’s an escaped felon. Oh I get it. This is all part of this master plan that you and Tony have. I’m going to be responsible for turning in my wife, my mother and my father-in-law and then I’m going to proclaim my love for Cassie, make her my wife and have a family with her.”
“Listen to me carefully, Shawn. I’m going to tell you exactly how it’s going to be.” And he did.
As Rex kept talking, Shawn listened becoming deeply fascinated by the story Rex was weaving. His heart was racing, his palms were sweaty, the hair on the back of his neck was standing on end. He was scared shitless but he couldn’t let Rex see that. He couldn’t believe what he was hearing.
Rex watched Shawn closely as he talked. He let Shawn hold his gaze. He wanted Shawn to see the truth of his words in his eyes. He hated to see the fear in Shawn’s eyes but it was necessary. Rex had been kept away from his family for far too long. It was going to end now. He didn’t share Tony or Cassie’s penchant for hurting people but he knew that it couldn’t be helped in this case.
“All I can tell you Shawn is that I’m not lying. Everything I outlined to you is going to happen. Accept it and it will be easier for you in the long run. I’ll have the guard escort you back to your quarters. I’m flying back to Salem later tonight. I’ll be back here as soon as I can arrange another getaway without arousing suspicion. I’ll talk to you then. Think long and hard, Shawn.”
He saw the shock in Shawn’s eyes and sighed. “You might as well accept it, Shawn. It’s going to happen.”
