Bo walks into the pub whistling. “Well,” says Caroline, “This is the happiest I have seen you in a long time.”
Bo just grins, walks up to her and gives her a big kiss on the cheek. “This is the happiest I have been in months. I just came in to get my things from upstairs.”
“I mean, Hope and I are finally back together. She is waiting on me at home. I am moving back in, tonight.”
“Oh, Bo, I am so happy for you. Well, don’t let me keep you. I’m sure you are anxious to get back to Hope.”
“Oh yeah. I can’t wait.” He says with a huge smile as he runs up the stairs, not noticing Chelsea sitting at a corner table taking everything in.
Chelsea scowls. “well, looks like this is the perfect time to send out the new family photo” she thinks as she picks up her camera phone and pushes a few buttons.
Hope is sitting on the couch staring at her laptop when Bo walks in the front door.
Bo throws his duffel on the floor, closes the door behind him and walks over to the couch grabbing her around the waist as he sits down. He pulls her into his lap and starts to nuzzle her neck. “Now where were we before I left for the pub?” he whispers.
Hope shoves his hands away and jumps up out of his lap. Keeping her back to him she walks across the room trying to control her anger.
“Hope, what is wrong? I got back as soon as I could. What happened in the half hour I’ve been gone?”
Hope turns around and gives Bo a cold look. “I got a new email. Why don’t you take a look at it.” She points to the laptop sitting on the couch next to him.
Bo picks it up and looks at the picture on the screen and back up at Hope as the blood drains from his face.
"Recognise the picture?"
"Where did you get this Hope?"
"Does it matter where? I think what matters is that I did get it. When, Brady?" Bo looks away from the picture of him and Billie lying on the bed together and up at Hope.
Hope's voice is very quiet as she interrupts him. "Don't call me that. And don't you dare try to wriggle your way out of this one Brady. I'm not running away this time. I want to know when. When was this picture taken? When were in bed with Billie? Again. And I want the truth. I want you to look me in the eye and tell me."
Bo swallows hard as he stands up to look at Hope. He flinches inside as he sees the cold look in her eyes. He finally looks away from the pain and distrust he sees there.
"Billie came by the pub two weeks ago." he starts quietly. "You had left the pub with Lockhart after we made the list for Steve about his life with Kayla. I went upstairs and started drinking. Billie overheard Steve telling Kayla how much she meant to him. She got upset and came to see me. She started crying....."
"And you just had to comfort her by going to bed with her again right? Just to make her feel better. After all it didnt mean anything right? Since you love me so much?" Hope says sarcastically.
Bo takes a deep breath. "We kissed but I stopped it before it went any further. I couldn't do it Hope. I do love you and I didn't want to do anything that would cause you to doubt that. I don't know where this picture..... Chelsea. It had to be Chelsea. I can't believe this. How could she do this again? She did this just to hurt you, to try to keep us apart...."
"Stop right there Brady. Chelsea may be the one who took this picture. She may have sent it to my email. But Chelsea isn't the one lying in bed with Billie now is she? You allowed yourself to be put in this situation. Again. Billie and now Chelsea are so easily able to manipulate you that you will always be in these situations because you refuse to stop them and obviously that isn't going to change."
Hope turns and walks upstairs and is rummaging around in the hall closet when Bo walks up behind her and puts his hands on her shoulders. "Hope what are you doing?"
"I'm tired Bo. I'm going to bed."
"Okay." Bo closes his eyes, pulls her back against him and kisses the top of her head. "Actually, I think that is a great idea. Things will look better after we sleep on it. We can talk in the morning. Tonight I want to show you how much I love you."
Hope turns around and shoves bed linens in his arms. "Don't get carried away Brady. I'm going to bed. Alone. You know where the guest room is. Good night."
She pushes Bo out of the way as she walks past and goes into the master bedroom slamming the door behind her.
Bo looks down at the linens in his arms and walks towards the master bedroom. As he reaches the door he hears the distinct sound of the lock being engaged from the other side. He sighs and walks into the guest room, closing the door quietly behind him.
Bo slowly gets out of bed. “We have got to get a new mattress for this bed.” he thinks as he rubs the back of his neck. He grabs clothes from his duffel and walks out into the hall. The master bedroom door is open and the bed is made. He walks down to the bathroom to shower.
After showering he hurries downstairs. “Hope?” He calls out but there is no answer. He walks into the kitchen and sees a note on the kitchen table:
~I have errands to run this morning. Since I haven’t had time to go to the grocery store I would suggest you eat at the pub. I’ll see you there around 11:00 am. Don’t be late. Hope~
Bo looks at his watch noticing its already after 10:00 am. He hurries out the door and heads to the pub. He walks in to the pub and heads straight for the coffee. As he sits down at a booth Caroline walks out of the kitchen and over to him.
“Well, you don’t look quite as chipper this morning as I would expect. Is everything okay?” She asks.
“Not really. It’s a long story but….well, we’ll work it out. We have to.” He says.
Just them Chelsea and Billie walk into the pub. “Hi daddy.” Chelsea smiles broadly as she walks up to the booth with Billie following.
Bo glares at her. “Don’t daddy me. How could you Chelsea? After everything that has happened I thought you had finally learned your lesson. Obviously you haven’t. You are still trying to cause trouble between me and my wife and you know what? I’m sick of it.”
Billie looks at Bo in shock, “Oh no. What did she do this time?”
“You want to tell her Chelsea or should I?” Bo asks.
“I don’t know what you’re talking….” She starts. Bo interrupts. “Oh come on. Don’t tell me you don’t want to take credit for your work Chelsea. You obviously worked very hard to time it perfectly.”
Caroline is standing off to the side and is the only one who realizes Hope has walked up behind them until she speaks. “I’m sure she was just trying to help right Chelsea? Making sure I knew what was going on?” Hope says sweetly.
Chelsea jumps and they all turn to see Hope standing there. Hope turns to Caroline as Caroline walks over to her and hugs her. “Hi, Caroline. You have a to go order for me?”
Caroline looks from Hope to the booth and back again before answering. “Let me go to the kitchen and see if its ready.” she walks off shaking her head.
Hope turns back to the booth as Chelsea looks down at the table top and Billie looks back and forth between Hope and Bo. “Okay.” Billie says. “Does someone want to tell me what is going on here?”
Hope looks at her with disdain. “I’m sure Chelsea will be glad to tell you Billie.” They all look at Chelsea.
“Look Daddy, I don’t know what you and Hope think I did but….”
Bo stops her, “You know what Chelsea. I’ve always heard that anyone can be a father but you have to prove yourself worthy to be called daddy. As far as I am concerned, you have to prove yourself worthy to CALL me daddy. So sell it somewhere else. You know you sent that picture of Billie and me lying on the bed to Hope’s email and you know what? That was the last straw. I am telling you for the last time. Billie and I will NEVER be together. WE will never be a family. You can either accept that or you can stay away from me and from Hope and the way I feel right now I don’t really care if you accept it. I’m actually hoping you decide to stay away because I have had enough of your schemes to last me a lifetime.” Bo throws his napkin down on the table and stands up as Caroline walks out with a huge bag. “Here you go Hope.”
“Thanks Caroline. I’d better get this back to Gram’s. She wanted your chowder for lunch.” Hope turns to take it from her as Bo walks up and grabs it.
“Let me take that. It’s too heavy.” Hope looks up at him as he continues, “Can I come with you or….”
Hope looks at him for a moment. “Of course you are coming with me. You don’t really think I am going to leave you here with Billie when there is a bed within 100 feet do you?” Everyone looks on in shock as she turns around and walks out the door without another word. Bo looks at Caroline, takes a deep breathe and walks out after Hope.
Bo sneaks glances at Hope throughout the drive to Mrs. H’s but she is looking out the window deep in thought. As they pull into the driveway she turns to him. “Okay, Brady. I don’t want Gran to be upset. As far as she is concerned we are back together and we are well on our way to working things out.”
Bo interrupts, “Are you saying we aren’t?”
Hope just looks at him, “What I am saying is we aren’t going to let her think anything differently no matter what is happening. I don’t want her to know about anything that has happened in the last 24 hours. For that matter, I don’t want anyone to know right now. We are going to pretend that it never happened, at least in public. Do you understand me? I will not have the family upset anymore than they already are, especially Gran.” Hope gets out of the car. “Start acting Brady and make it look good. For Gran.”
Hope starts up the walk with Bo close behind holding the bag from the pub. They walk into the foyer as Maggie walks out to meet them. “Hey you two. Everyone is in the living room. I’ll take this,” she says as she removes the bag from Bo’s hands, “you go on in. I know Alice is anxious to see you.” Maggie moves off to the kitchen.
Hope looks at Bo and holds out her hand. He looks down at it and instead puts his arm around her shoulder and starts walking into the living room where Mrs. H and Abby are sitting.
“Hey Gran.” Hope calls with a smile as she walks over and kisses her cheek. Bo leans over to kiss her cheek as well as Mrs. H. smiles at the two of them.”
“I am so glad to see the two of you. Together. Its about time.” She states as Maggie walks back into the room agreeing.
Bo walks up behind Hope and puts his arms around her waist and starts nuzzling her neck. “You got that right Mrs. H.” Hope fakes a grin and says, “You know what? I’m going to the kitchen to get some drinks. Brady, you want to help me?” “Oh yeah.” Bo says slyly as Mrs. H. and Maggie smile knowingly at each other.
Bo keeps his arms around her waist as they walk towards the kitchen. As soon as the door closes behind them Hope spins away from him and shoves him back. “What are you doing?”
Bo just grins, “You said you wanted Mrs. H. to think things were normal. This is normal. Remember? ”
Hope gives him a hard look. “Tone it down Brady or tonight you’ll be in the garage instead of the guest room.” With that she turns and walks back into the living room as Bo sighs. “Oh boy” he whispers and follows her back out.
Bo and Hope walk into the house after a long afternoon at Mrs. H’s. Hope sits down on the couch, leans her head back and closes her eyes for a moment. Bo sits down beside her and watches her. “Hope, we need to talk about this, about us.”
Hope opens her eyes to see Bo staring into hers and is speechless for a moment at the love she sees there as well as the fear. She sighs. “I don’t know what to say Bo. I feel…” She stops and stares down at her hands as she tries to figure out how to describe everything she is feeling at once…love, anger, pain, distrust….all at the same time.
Bo gently touches her chin and raises her face so he can look into her eyes. “You feel what Fancy Face? Talk to me. Please. I can’t fix it if you don’t tell me what you want me to do.”
“I don’t know what I want right now Bo. I know I don’t want to feel like this. I don’t want to be this angry all the time. I don’t want to feel my heart ache every time I look at you and think about what has happened between us. I don’t want to wonder every time you walk out that door…” Just then his cell phone rings.
“You better answer it. It might be Chelsea or better yet Billie.” Hope can’t stop herself from saying sarcastically. Bo stares at her for another moment before answering it.
“Hey John. This isn’t a good time…” He listens for a moment then sighs. “Alright, I’ll be there as soon as I can.” He hangs up the phone and looks up at Hope. “It was John. Maybe I should have let you answer it so you would have known for sure but…..I didn’t think about that until just now. You can check the caller I.D.” He says quietly. “I know right now you don’t trust me and I don’t blame you. I just don’t know what to do to prove to you that its you I love, that I will be here for you, that I…..”
Hope interrupts. “I don’t know either. Look, obviously John needs you. You better go.”
“I don’t want to leave things like this, Fancy Face.”
“Please just go see John. I, I think I’ll go lay down for a while. I’m a little tired and right now I just don’t know what to say or what to think about anything. We’ll talk later okay?” She stands up and starts towards the stairs. Bo stops her and waits until she turns to face him before lightly kissing her on the forehead and after a moment walks out the front door. Hope continues up the stairs.
Bo arrives back home around 11 pm not sure what to expect. The house is quiet and all the lights are off. He heads upstairs and stops outside the master bedroom door listening closely. There is no sound from within as he reaches for the doorknob. It doesn’t turn. He closes his eyes for a moment before heading to the guest room.
After a restless night Bo decides to get up early and head downstairs. He starts walking to the kitchen when he smells the coffee and hears voices. He stops and debates going back upstairs to dress in something besides sweatpants and decides not to bother. Anyone here this early will just have to take me the way I am he thinks to himself. He walks into the kitchen and stops in his tracks when he sees Patrick sitting at the kitchen table with Hope, in pajamas, standing next to him, coffee pot in hand while Patrick’s hands are on her stomach. They are both smiling. Bo grimaces. Hope looks up and sees him standing there. “I wasn’t expecting you up so early.” Patrick stands and turns his back to Bo telling Hope, “I’ll talk to you later. Thanks for breakfast. I better get going.” He walks out the back door as Bo and Hope stare at each other.
Finally Hope turns and grabs a coffee cup, pours the coffee and hands it to Bo. “I’m going upstairs to get dressed.” She starts to leave the room when Bo stops her with his hand on her arm.
“What was Lockhart doing here this early? Or maybe I should ask how long he has been here.” Bo says sarcastically.
“You can have Billie in your bedroom at all hours of the night and you are going to question me because Patrick is in the kitchen with me? I’m not the one who has trouble staying dressed just because I’m in a room alone with Patrick. Can you say the same about being alone with Billie?” Hope closes her eyes for a moment. “I told you from the beginning that Patrick is going to be part of my life now because of this baby. You said you could accept it. Now its time to put actions behind those words and deal with it.” Hope walks out of the room as Bo sits at the table with his head in his hands.
Bo slowly gets up from the table, cursing himself as he walks upstairs to shower. As he steps out of the shower he realizes he was so lost in thought he forgot to go to the guest room to grab his clothes. He shrugs as he thinks to himself that Hope has probably already gone back downstairs anyway. He wraps a towel around his waist and walks out of the bathroom.
Hope walks out of the master bedroom and looking down realizes her shirt is missing a button. “Oh darn it.” she says to herself as she runs into something solid, looking up slowly from the towel to the bare chest in front of her and finally into Bo’s face.
“Woah. You okay?” he asks as he holds her by the waist to make sure she has her balance. He stares into her eyes as he waits for her to answer. She doesn’t. “Hope?”
Hope shakes her head and closes her eyes. Opening them back up she takes a deep breath. “I’m fine.”
“I, uh, I forgot to get my clothes before I walked into the bathroom. I guess I just, uh, had a lot on my mind.” Bo stammers like a school boy.
Hope looks down and then looks back up at his face very quickly after remembering that he is still only wearing a towel. Bo reacts to her being in his arms as Hope realizes the towel doesn’t leave much to the imagination. His breath catches in his throat. Hope pulls free and mumbles something about getting a new shirt as she turns and almost runs back into the bedroom, closing the door behind her and leaning against it with her eyes closed. “This is going to be harder than I thought” She thinks to herself.
Bo takes a deep breath, swears, walks back into the bathroom and turns the water on cold as he jumps back in the shower.
When Bo comes back downstairs the house is quiet. He walks into the kitchen and sees another note saying that Hope is out with Lexie and doesn’t know when she will be back. Bo walks out the back door and heads over to the surveillance van in front of EJ’s apartment. John is keeping watch but not alone.
“Steve, what are you doing here?” He asks and looks at him questioningly.
“Hey man. I decided since I was being targeted maybe I should find out a little more about the one who is doing the targeting. John was just filling me in on what’s happening around here.”
“Which is not much at the moment.” John scowls. “There hasn’t been a peep out of EJ since yesterday afternoon.”
“What about Lockhart? Has that scum shown up yet?” Bo growls.
Both Steve and John look at him a little closer.
“Uhoh. What happened? Did you have a run in with Patrick?” John asks.
“Not exactly.” Bo says.
“What exactly? Man, you shouldn’t be worrying about Lockhart. You are back with the lady you love. You need to concentrate on her for awhile. Why don’t you let me take over here for you? Give you some time with Hope.” Steve offers.
Bo snorts. “Yeah, I’m back all right. Right down the hall in the guest room while that scum sits in the kitchen having breakfast with my wife.”
Steve and John look at each other in surprise. Bo sees the look and responds before they can even ask. “It’s a long story. Let’s just say Chelsea strikes again thanks to me giving her the ammunition she needs to cause problems with me and my wife so I‘m staying in the guest room…..indefinitely.” He explains what happened with Billie and Hope receiving the email.
John looks at him closely for a minute. “Bo, Hope deserves better and you know it. Maybe you need to decide what is more important to you…being with Hope or being friends with Billie?”
Bo looks down lost in thought.
Bo leaves the surveillance van a few hours later and decides to walk by the waterfront to clear his head. He is thinking about what John said to him. “Hope does deserve better, better than me. Maybe I should let her go so she can be happy. I just love her so much. I do want to be with her. She will always be more important to me than any friendship with anyone, including Billie……I have to go tell her that. I have to make her believe it but first…” He opens his cell phone. “Billie we have to talk. Meet me at the pub in 10 minutes.” He listens for a second, hangs up and walk back towards the pub.
Billie is sitting in a booth when he walks in. He goes over and pours a cup of coffee before sitting down.
Billie looks at him in confusion when he sits down across from her. “What’s going on Bo? I didn’t think Hope would let you anywhere near me after the other day.”
Bo takes a deep breath. “That’s what I want to talk to you about. Hope actually doesn’t know I’m meeting you.”
“Do you really think that is such a good idea? She will find out you know then she will be even angrier.”
Bo shakes his head. “She is going to find out because I am going to tell her as soon as I leave here. I realized today that I haven’t been fair to Hope for a long time. I can see that now. It took seeing her with Lockhart for me to realize how she has felt all this time about me being around you. I know we share a child Billie but we can’t be friends. We can both be parents to Chelsea but that’s it. No meetings, no conversations from now on unless Hope is there too. She comes first. I won’t make her feel like she has to compete to get my attention.”
The door to the pub opens and Lexie walks in laughing with Hope right behind her. Lexie stops in the middle of the door when she sees Bo sitting with Billie. Hope looks up and sees them. She stands in shock for a moment.
Hope looks at the two of them in disgust. “I should have known.” She turns and walks out of the pub.
Bo jumps up from the booth and runs to the door. “Fancy Face!” He sees Hope walking quickly towards the pier and takes off after her. He loses sight of her but keeps going to try to find her when he hears a noise. He stands still for a moment trying to figure out where it is coming from. Suddenly he is hit from behind and falls unconscious on the pier.
Bo wakes up slowly grimacing and grabbing the back of his head as he raises up to look around. He sees feet and legs and in his confusion his first thought is Hope. He crawls over to the body and realizes its not her but Patrick Lockhart. Just as he reaches him and begins to feel for a pulse he hears a voice behind him.
“Salem PD. Put your hands in the air and lay down face first! NOW!” Bo turns and sees a patrol officer pointing a gun at his head.
He holds his hands up so they are visible and answers, “I’m Detective Bo Brady. I’m just going to check to see if he is alive.” The officer tightens his grip on his gun.
“You are not going to move except to lay down MR. Brady. I know who you are and you are currently suspended from the force for attacking the man you happen to be standing over right now. On the ground. NOW!”
Bo realizes that the officer isn’t going to listen so he lays down face first with his hands above his head. “Look, I’m not going to do anything. I found Lockhart like this. Call Captain Roman Brady or Commander Carver.”
The officer doesn’t answer. He grabs Bo by the wrist and handcuffs him as his partner walks over and checks to see if Patrick has a pulse. The partner looks back at the first officer and shakes his head.
“Mr. Brady, you are under arrest for the murder of Patrick Lockhart. You have the right to remain silent…..” Bo looks at the officer in shock.
“This is crazy. I didn’t murder Lockhart.” Bo is protesting as the officers bring him into the PD handcuffed.
Abe and Roman walk out of the office to see what the noise is all about. They are both shocked to see Bo in cuffs again.
“What is going on here?” Abe asks.
“Mr. Brady has been arrested for the murder of Patrick Lockhart. We found him over the body on the pier. And we found the murder weapon.” He holds up a bag containing a gun.
“I didn’t kill anyone Abe. You know me better than that.”
Abe interrupts. “Let’s take this into my office. Officer you can remove the cuffs. I will be responsible for Bo for now. Why don’t you take the gun downstairs and have it checked out.”
“Yes sir.” The officer removes the cuffs and leaves with the gun.
Bo, Roman and Abe walk into the office.
“Sit down Bo. What exactly have you gotten yourself into this time?”
Bo sits down and rubs his hand over his face. He explains what happened to Abe and Roman.
“So you didn’t see anyone?” Roman asks.
“No one. I heard a noise and got hit from behind. When I woke up Lockhart was laying beside me. I was about to check for a pulse when the officer walked up behind me. I don’t know what is going on except whoever is targeting our family just decided to come after me. And if our suspicions are right it‘s EJ Wells.”
Just then there is a knock on the door. The officer walks in and whispers to Roman handing him a report and walks back out.
Roman looks at the report and back up at Abe and then at Bo.
“What is it?” Bo asks quickly, worried by the look on Roman’s face.
“This is the preliminary report on the gun. There was only one set of fingerprints on it. They matched yours Bo.”
Bo closes his eyes for a moment and then looks back at Roman and Abe. “Look I know it doesn’t look good but I swear to you as much as I hate Lockhart I didn’t kill him. I wouldn’t do that, especially not when I am this close to getting my life back with Hope. And me killing him doesn’t explain why I have this knot on the back of my head.”
Abe looks at him closely. “Maybe we should get you to the hospital to have you checked out.” As Bo starts to protest Roman interrupts, “And the doctors might even be able to help confirm how you got that knot.” he says pointedly.
Bo sighs and agrees to go the hospital. Abe and Roman go with him. Roman stays outside the cubicle and calls Hope at home. “Hope its Roman.”
“Hey Roman, Bo isn’t here right now.”
“I know. Actually, Bo is the reason I’m calling. He is going to be fine but you might want to get down here to the hospital. He is going to need some support.”
“Roman, what is going on? What is wrong with Bo?”
“He just got a little bump on the head. Look, I will explain everything when you get here.”
“I’m on my way.” Hope hangs up the phone, grabs her purse and runs out the door.
Back at the hospital Roman walks into the cubicle where Bo and Abe are talking to the doctor. “It appears you were hit with a blunt object Mr. Brady. Do you know what happened?”
Before Bo can respond Abe questions, “Can you determine if there is any way the wound could be self inflicted or can we rule that out?”
The doctor looks at Abe quizzically. “There is no way that it could be self inflicted. He had to have been hit by someone else and that someone was probably two to three inches taller than Mr. Brady based on the angle of the wound. I would like to keep Mr. Brady here overnight for observation to rule out a concussion….unless you are releasing him to go home and there is someone to keep an eye on him for 24 hours.”
Abe and Roman look at each other for a moment. “Bo you need to stay here overnight until we can figure out what is going on.” Abe says, “I can’t release you under the circumstances without the DA’s approval and I don’t want you in a cell with a head injury.”
No one notices that Hope has walked into the room until she exclaims, “What have you done now Brady?”
