I just stumbled across this hair site and it looked like fun. Here's some back story: I've always wanted really, really long hair but it would get to the middle of my back and I'd whack it off short. I, too, have always had bangs, except for a couple of tries in the past at growing them out. I wear glasses, I'm 55 (and so no longer look all that young) and like many others here, thought it would make me look older. Also, I colored my hair for some 30 years before finally getting fed up being a slave to my roots and pitching the hair color out the window. I am now gloriously gray and white and I have vowed never to cut my hair again. That includes bangs, so they are growing out. I don't understand your military designations; my bangs are just past my eyebrows. I have been a braiding freak all my life and to keep bangs off my face and out of my eyes, I do a hairline braid which includes the bangs, then continue braiding them into the side and back hair My hair is currently just below shoulder length and I nearly always have it braided up in the back. Does having all my hair back off my face make me look older? Probably, but I don't care. I'm 55! I AM older, and damn proud of it. Some days, I think my hair makes me look elegant and sophisticated, so that's how I choose to view my more mature look. One big advantage of growing out the bangs is that I don't have to wash them every other day. Boy, did I get tired of that! I now wash my hair about once every 5-6 days. I do use hair spray on it, which seems to keep it looking "fresh" longer. Once I've braided it into a style, I leave it alone for days on end. My hair, btw, is medium and on the fine side. I want to be that wonderful old lady with really long, beautiful gray hair. Hope I make it this time!
