Arkansas is a new team. They were to be a last minute replacement for a Palmer weekend I believe.
The games were canceled because Arkansas agreed to fill in but then backed out. I think they will start their schedule next semester. |

Kich,
I think you fail to realize that Kansas just isn't that good. MSU in two romps. |

No-Name replier,
I hope they (MSU) prove me wrong. What I believe may happen and what might actually happen are two different things. |

I think MSU will split - they haven't been playing well lately. |

You can't take two losses to the #12 ranked team in the Nation in ACHA D1, Iowa State, and say Missouri State isn't playing well. My bet is they will probably win both against Kansas, but unless they get out of the gate fast, the scores may be closer than they appear.
As for the Iowa/Iowa State games. Iowa State will sweep. |

The poster was probably referring to the fact that MSU-Maroon has lost 3 of their last 4. With one of those losses to an unranked D2 team. And they didn't just lose they were soundly spanked by the DI squad.
I think it's fair to say that they aren't playing well and you can certainly make a case for them to have their hands full tonight and tomorrow.
Now if they win both games handily, we can just call the past 3 losses as bumps in the road. |

Looks like MSU squeaked one out. I agree with the above posts - MSU hasn't been playing well lately. They take too many dumb penalties, especially against D1 teams. They also don't seem to pass the puck well when going end-to-end. Is it just me or does it seem like they like to try and skate through, around, and past defenders on the other team? 2-3 quick passes and they could be in the offensive zone.,,oh well, that's why they're just a good D2 team
I'm disappointed because they could be so much better with the talent they have. |

what should i say..... i hope you saw the game. MSU had controll of the puck in Kansas' end for the most part of the game. again 50 some odd shots at home. i wouldnt say that the played bad but 50 isnt a good number. youre right they are just a good team for the time being...... theyve only lost to one d2 team all the season. i cant wait to see what they do when the decide to start playing hockey. |

I think the post about MSU's penchant for taking bad penalties and a team concept that apparently doesn't embrace sharing the puck may limit this squads potential and we may very well be witnessing those limits.
It's a difficult task putting a team together and it is often done at a very macro level. Volunteer coaches often rely on speed and size and other elements that are important to them for example "toughness" which can also lead to bad penalties, to place and use players.
Player intelligence and the ability to see the ice are skills that are much harder to evaluate and are often either overlooked or the decision maker doesn't know what to look for and assembles a team without enough of them.
This isn't a knock on anyone. That's one of the reasons that many professional players can't coach. They can't identify those traits. It's usually the players that saw the ice well that make great coaches; Larry Robinson, Jacque Lemaire, etc. Nobody is getting paid to do this (of if they are it's a stipend) so you enjoy what you get and accept the fact that there are limits. |

Very well put. I totally agree. It's a shame because the talent is there..it's not that they're a bad team. They are a good team, but boy, if they only raised the level of play | |
