I understand that SIU-E has no controll over the ice surface but come on. If you saw the ice tonight it was in bad shape, you could see the concrete below. I know that it doesnt mean the ice is low but when you can feel ripples when you skate its horrible. Did they have compresser problems or is the ice really just that bad. i feel sorry that SIU-E has to play there. Any thoughts?

When we interviewed Larry Thatcher he told us the rink was sold a bill of goods on a new paint product that looked awesome the first few games. The Ice looked good when Missouri State played them in the begining of the year.
But after that the paint went sour. The ice is the same as it was, just looks horrible now becaise of the paint job, although I did notice there was a hollow sound when some of the earlier games were played, but perhaps that was the lack of noisy fans allowing you to hear the ice surface more.

I love the ice experts here on the forum. The ice was good all weekend and no complaints from any of the players, coaches and refs. And the poster that is the "expert" on ice and noticed that the concrete was showing through is a real prize. The East Alton ice rink uses a sand based system....there's no concrete under that ice Einstein.
Great tourney by the way Larry. Heard lots of kudos from guests regarding cleanliness, on time games and general organization. And it was nice EA provided timekeepers, scorers and announcers for every single game.

I play for Missouri State and I can tell you that the ice was brutal and no one enjoyed playing on it. The puck took the weirdest bounces everywhere, and you couldn't settle it to set up a decent play at any point in time, at the beginning of the periods it was still wet and not set, and by the end it was so rough and choppy it was simply horrendous.

I skate a lot at East Alton and the ice this weekend was bad. I Agree that the ice was wet at the beginning of periods and that the puck was bouncing around everywhere at the end. It usually isn't as bad as it was.

the ice wasn't great, but i have had much worse. i think its silly to blame ice for bad plays. not everyone has an amazing facility to practice in everyday like you missouri state. larry did a great job as well.

This forum has been created with the purpose to constructively discuss college club hockey. We encourage you to freely discuss any topic you wish, with the caveat that you keep the discourse within the bounds of good taste. While good natured trash-talking is fun, thought provoking and acceptable, any replies that turn personal, disrespectful and/or disruptive of the intent of this forum will be deleted by the moderators of this forum.
Our intent is to build up and promote college club hockey and its teams. We need to work together and support each other to make this happen. We already have enough critics of club hockey. Let's do our best to keep things amiable on this forum, as not to give them any ammunition.
Best of luck to ALL teams!
