Hows this class of the Macha matchup looking?
Lets hear from the teams that have played both teams too...
I think Eastern Illniios and Northern Illinois are the only 2 teams that have played both squads though

Iowa: Has 1 really really good line that can outplay every line in MACHA...They make mistakes but have good goaltending behind the defense...
MSU: Take control when on the power-play..Very Very good at it...If Poepping plays hes hard to beat, but the MSU defense can be broken through...Just gotta score on your best opportunities

MSU will sweep.
Correction: Iowa's first line is mediocre at best, and their whole team is overrated.
Missouri State is a good all around team, with depth and solid goaltending.
This one is a no-brainer.

How many lines does Iowa run through? Do they put their number one line out there every other shift? I've seen MSU and know that they run through 4 lines like each of them are their number one (maybe not on the power play though). All those points from Iowa's top line could be decieving

Missouri State has 4 balanced lines that can play with the best of 'em. In fact, with the injuries to their top line (which should be back intact against Iowa) the 2nd, 3rd and 4th lines saw alot of playing time the past 4 games.
So, you don't have a high scoring team in MSU (74) to Iowa (122), but you have a much better defensive team. MSU went 203:32 without giving up a goal recently, most in part to the strongest defense in the league. MSU has only allowed 51 goals and only 19 at home.
Missouri State was 3 for 9 against SLU. Iowa went 1 for 17 on the powerplay against St. Thomas. Ouch.
Goaltending: MSU's Poepping is the best in the league (10-6-1, 2.18 GAA, 518 shots, 37 GA, 974 Mins., .922 SVPCT, 2 Shut outs). Iowa's Will Dodge isn't bad either (7-1, .901 SVPCT, 500 Mins., GA 2.88, 24 GA, 244 shots, 1 Shut out)
What is troubling too are the 8 DQ's on Iowa.
This weekend should see MSU lead the MACHA after a sweep.

MSU leans towards its top lines, at least they did against us. I know there were some injury issues but the top 2 lines had about 3/4 of the work, 3rd line saw some pp and few regular shifts and then the fourth line saw minimal time. I know they had injuries but thats what they ran against us.

The only reason teams think MSU hasn't run through 4 lines this year is because their offense has been killeed by injuries this year so the kids that usually play on the 4th or 3rd line have been playing on the top 2 lines and there have been kids from JV acting as their 4th liners which is why in some games you've thought they have only ran through 2 to 3 lines. Don't worry though... Soon, theyll get healthy and run through all their lines.

I know the MSU people have a ton of hard feelings vs. Palmer College but while listening to WSR the only major knock they had on Depaul was they played Palmer College. I can't believe they are trying to hold that against Depaul. I just dont get why that even matters. I love the passion but guys please leave get rid of the grudge. even more funny info from WSR Rankings conversation.
Illinois has some dumb article on their website about some team being their toughest competition and how that says a lot about what the U of I thinks about their strength of schedule. While I understand why they brought this up I bring to them the importance of ignoring team websites to an extent because half of these articles are written with more hype to try and get folks interested and the other half the kids writing them are to drunk to realize what they are saying just look at the poor gramar and also the poor spelling.

I was at the game... MSU got dominated at the beginning and it didn't seem like MSU was playing all that well... i wasn't sure until i saw the third period and watched the puck be in Iowa's zone the entire time. A lot of chances that the puck could have easily gone in the net for the bears and there was one goal called back only cause the whistle blew early.
Regardless, Iowa capitalized when MSU was down... the game kind of turned around but not as much on the scoreboard.
We'll see what happens tonight.

The goals were pretty much the defenses fault...
First goal... Left a guy alone to do whatever he wanted.
second goal... nobody touched in front of the net... allowed a nasty tip
third goal... once again nobody touched in front... allowed a nasty tip
fourth goal... 2 on 1. good shot but this one probably was poeppings fault
Granted... knowing him, he will definately think he could have played A LOT better then that but the terrible play of the team wasn't helping him.

Gimme a break. That was two weeks ago. I would think everyone's owies would be healed by now.
Defense's fault? Last time I checked it's gotta get by 5 guys before it gets by the goalie. Sounds like MSU spent a lot of time in the sin bin early on. Where's the discipline? Perhaps MSU took Iowa for granted?
And only 1 goal? Where's the offense? Is Iowa's defense and goaltending that strong? Anyone got a shot count?

I believe they were 33-31 iowa. They were 31-12 after 2 periods and Iowa took some penalties in the 3rd, had to kill off at least one 5 on 3. Iowa spent most the 3rd playing defense and clogging up the neutral zone

I watched the game and yes domination. For 110 out 120 minutes Iowa dominated. as for calling goal back, when ref blows whistle and everyone stops playin then a kid 3 seconds later shoots it in, thats not "getting a goal called back" thats just some idiot shooting on an empty net with no one playing still cuz it was a whistle and the uneducated fans of MSU celebrated not grasping how the actual game of hockey works with whistles and whatnot.

Hdog - unlike Iowa where when watching a hockey game you might have to compete with the noise made by a fes tired shoppers taking a break. At Springfield you actually have fans in the stands making noise. So your uneducated comment is lame. In a noisy building with fans actually cheering it is often hard to hear the whistle. But you probably wouldn't know much about that situation.

Ok lets start from the top... Yes Iowa plays in a mall and that means they are a bunch of benders right??? Yeah a bunch of benders that are 19-4 this year. Sounds like a bunch of benders to me right?? Lets move on.. Yes, st. thomas beat the **** out of Iowa two games in Iowa city, but i believe Iowa just bounced back off of that and swept Missouri state at their home rink where "THEY HAVE SO MANY FANS" like the guy before me said. And was it a little over 30 conference games that MSU won in a row in the MACHA at their home rink??? Wow a great team gets swept by a bunch of benders in front of their committed crowd. Face it, iowa is on top of the MACHA and will close out the season on top of the MACHA. Why don't you all just admit it and say that those beer guzzlin', horrible benders from the coralville mall are good and I am sure they will hold open tryouts for anyone that wants to go and play for them next year.

The Hawkeye Hockey Club is in desperate and immediate

If it lasts then maybe they'll learn how to act like theyve been there before rather than talking down to people after they beat them. If this keeps up then maybe theyll get used to winning and they wont have to talk about how good they think they are because people know they are on top.

Iowa needs to be quiet? They just knocked off a very good MSU team in their own barn, breaking a couple streaks in the process.
Now let's be real for a second here...Iowa has no money, like their website says. Because they have no money, they practice 1 HOUR A WEEK, and the ice is SHARED with their black team might I add. Iowa has had their school transportation privleges revoked for the beer can incident. As a result, the Iowa kids drive themselves to all away games, and pay for their own gas in the meantime. In addition, last weekend many of the players drove straight from morning class to the rink in Springfield and stepped out of the car ready to play the mighty MSU Bears, only to find out that the Bears were on the ice and that warm-ups did not start at 7pm, but 630pm. Iowa was given a chance to "warm-up" their goalie before the puck dropped as a consequence, which turned out to be exactly 7 shots, wow. The MSU Bears thought this was pretty funny, as they laughed and chirped "bender" and "tool" as the Hawks straggled on to the ice. And what was the end result? A big fat sweep. 9 goals on Patrick Roy?? Oops, I meant Poepping...that's rough for a team that prides themselves on defense and goaltending. So enough of this "Iowa is loud" crap, how bout Iowa is on top and no one will catch them. It's a whole different animal in the playoffs though, so good luck everyone.
Don't forget, we're a bunch of benders that play in a mall

4:59.....Let me correct your false accuisations. First, Iowa arrived at 4:30pm to the Ice Park then went to the hotel which is 4 miles away. They arrived back at the rink at 6:10 and found out they were on the ice at 6:30pm. What happened between the hotel and rink is anyones guess. They should know the game protocal for a 7pm start.
MSU was nice enough to give Iowa 5 to 8 minutes of warmups before the player introductions and national anthem. So, they only got 7 warm up shots on the goalie according to you?? Wow, what were they doing during that time? Were they trying to listen to the Bears call them "bender" and "tool" ??
NO...because that never happened. Missouri State was gracious to work with them on their mistake. Coach White even said that they messed up on the WSR broadcast.
Are you the same person that accused St. Thomas of being ungracious too?

Iowa plays out of a Mall!
No score for this post
December 10 2008, 1:53 AM
first off... like what was stated earlier... iowa does not have team transportation.. all the players drive themselves in their OWN cars paying their OWN gas and if i'm correct atleast 2 of the carpool vehicles arrived at 6:10pm after leaving Iowa City at 12 noon straight after their classes which they can't miss because they attend a REAL university. When the players arrived in enough time to be on the ice for the "scheduled" game time they were then informed by selfish MSU personnel that they had to be on the ice at 630 for warmups not 7pm. The mighty MSU bears didn't even have the decency to inform their visiting guests that they had a t.v. and radio timeslot. Even Iowa whom plays out of a MALL has been genourous and thoughtful enough to inform their guests of schedule changes and when they should be on the ice for warmups.. not that that really matters showing that Iowa doesn't even need a warm up to break the 32 consecutive game-winning streak set by the Mighty MSU bears... it was a clean sweep and iowa is classy enough to not bring out the brooms on the ice... again.. as stated in an earlier post, iowa practices 1 hour a week with their black team, whom also just one their first game, has not team functions and does not do any off ice training or team building circuits.
clearly iowa has the best talent around right now, they only need 1 hour of practice time, no off ice training, and can show up minutes before playing the "top MACHA gold team" with a long game winning streak and sweep them into their caves... may i add that springy is a terrible town.. they have nothing to do but think up things like a "topless male calendar" like really? and iowa are the tools? holy losers! another good one is that #14 thought by cutting is lengthy girl like hair for the saturday game they might be able to skate with the flying hawkeyes... pyscheeee!
oh one more thing, what is with the austin powers 1960's hotel that MSU is sponsored by? the only good thing out of that place was watching little 40 year old men walk around with large strippers and prostitutes before getting arrested and walked out the front door...
iowa wants to thank the Mighty msu bears for having them down to their fine facility and allowing them walk in 10 minutes before the game and SWEEP them on their own ice!!! maybe they'll want to make the trip up to iowa next year and and play in a mall so they're not embarrassed in front of their own "Great Fans"

We encourage you to freely discuss any topic you wish, with the caveat that you keep the discourse within the bounds of good taste. While good natured trash-talking is fun, thought provoking and acceptable, any replies that turn personal, disrespectful and/or disruptive of the intent of this forum will be deleted by the moderators of this forum.
Our intent is to build up and promote college club hockey and its teams. We need to work together and support each other to make this happen. We already have enough critics of club hockey. Let's do our best to keep things amiable on this forum, as not to give them any ammunition.
Best of luck to ALL teams!
Regards,
