Christian Waters was last years MACHA player of the year. Now that most teams are at least 2/3's of the way through their conference schedule, who is emerging as a potential candidate for 2008-2009? Does Waters have a shot at repeating? Will it be a freshman, or a goalie??
Just something to think about as we approach 2009

I would have to semi agree with the last post, and I am not an Iowa fan. Looking at stats, he is pretty high in the nation points wise, but it is hard to compare him to a goalie or defensive player. Scoring wise he is the best player, all around, idk.

Lets correct ourselves here... "Best" and "most valuable" are 2 completely different things...
I've seen Jacobson play and i would most certainly say he is NOT the "Best" player in the league.
There are a lot more kids with a lot more skill then him. Last years winner for example BUT i cannot disagree that he may be the "most valuable" to his team

hands down best player in the league. most valuable to his team yes and also best player in MACHA. great chance those who disagree have their own bias or flat out just dont like the kid. politics aside he is one of the best macha players of the past decade.

There's no arguing that he's a MVP contender this year... Best MACHA player in the last decade? That's a bit of a stretch.

Maybe not the very best in a decade, but Jacobson has to be top 3. Midget aaa at Shattuck, NAHL, then OPJHL...not a bad resume. Too bad for him he could care less about hockey or he could have been awesome. Best player this year? no doubt, no one comes close

Michael Poepping from Missouri State is a pretty good goalie. He is(going off of ACHA stats) the only MACHA goalie to have played over a thousand hours this season. He also has a 2.44 Goals against average. The only goalie with over a thousand minutes to be on the top 100 for GAA in ACHA Div 2. The closest MACHA goalie in GAA with a substantial amount of minutes is Steve Somerfield, and in 868 he has 2.97. Poepping also has two shutout wins. However he does have his moments where he does not play like a MVP, his stats show otherwise though.

Well OK then yeah he might be a contender for the Silver MVP, I had mistakingly assumed this was a Gold discussion, not many people pay attention to Silver, which is not right, but it is what it is.

what about either Michonski (EIU's leading scorer i think the last 3 years) or their upset goalie Hutson i think his name is? Houston maybe not sure of his name but I think his dad posts on here from time to time and I think he was in net when Eastern beat Iowa, SLU and Kansas. I am not sure how he has played in other games and I just remember seeing his name a couple times on here.

Also the guy from Iowa that everyone hates. The number 1 scoring guy that posts crap from facebook or myspace which ever it is.

Take away the MSU/Mizzou bickering and SLU and not much people pay attention to anything else on here. I get the feeling without MSU fans...er players.. this board wouldn't have much.

For the record...

Friday October 24 - Iowa 7 EIU 4
Saturday October 25 - Iowa 9 EIU 3

Was your MVP candidate in the nets for the 7 goals or the 9 goals, or both?

Poepping MVP? Give me a break. What he needs is some competition to keep him sharp. There is no incentive for him to be at his best every game...besides didn't he miss the bus on an out of town trip earlier in the season?

One of the reasons he looks so good with the # of minutes played is because MSU has no one else - or at least they don't play anyone else!

My point was that that group of Mizzou benders finished second to only Mo St. in overtime last year. Without the Waters kid they wouldn't have been there. My concern ins't really about Mizzou but what are you saying about the league as a whole if the benders are finishing second?

What the players do outside off the ice is their own deal. Sure, it is not a good representation of the organization, but this is about the MVP of the league, not the MVP of life.
