| Who's your guys' candidates for Coach of the Year this year?
My vote goes to Bryan Chamberlain at Northwestern, what job this guy must be doing. That team's made quite a turnaround this year. McKendree has a good team too but Northwestern is my pick to win Silver. |

If McKendrie had Brian Chamberlin for their coach we would all be in serious trouble |

Considering Northwestern was 2-10 in conference play last season (according to the MACHA website) and that McKendree is a perineal power in the Silver Division year in and year out, Coach Chamberlin for Silver Coach of the Year is a pretty easy pick in my book. That does not take away anything from Coach Misiak, he just keeps getting the job done year in and year out, showing his system and staff are consistent, but the Northwestern turn around is a great story.
Coach of the Year in GOLD?????

Considering that Coach Mike Schroeder stepped into a MSU program that didn't know who their coach was going to be to start the season, has dealt with an inconsistent team (according to many on this board) and has had to implement a new coaching philosophy (which we all know is hard to transition from), is currently 20-13-2 (with two regular season games and a post-season still to go) compared to last year's 24-10; I'd say he's in the mix. |

Hands down coach of the year for the gold division has to be Nick White- coach of Iowa Gold. This is the guy's first year as head coach for Iowa and this is the first year Iowa is first in the Gold Division and ranked #7 through the fourth set of rankings which is higher than any other team in the MACHA. Iowa has made huge progress is the last couple of years and with the coaching from Nick White they are now arguably the best team in the MACHA. If Iowa comes in first in the regular season or in playoffs should not matter.. no matter what Coach White should be the coach of the year in the gold division! |

When you consider that the folks doing the voting last year voted for a silver player of the year that wasn't even rostered on the silver team for the last month of year and actually voted for another player thinking it was him, does any of this discussion really matter?
Curious if any changes were put into place so that the votes are more meaningful this year? One suggestion might be that if you have no knowledge about a player or coach then you abstain from voting for that award. That would prevent the embarrassing situation that occurred last year. It is painfully obvious that too many folks vote purely from the flawed statistics available through the ACHA and have no personal knowledge of the players/coaches or teams they are voting on.
As an example of things to consider and certainly not intended to diminish the work of the Northwestern coach but how much of their success should be attributed to some really good players that they added to their roster this year and to the obvious upgrade in goaltending? A team at the silver level with only one team in their organization can make a quantum leap in performance just by adding a couple of top flight players, Northwestern clearly did that so I'm not so sure you can make the assumption that their improvement was attributable to the coaching. I'm not saying it wasn't I'm just hoping some thought actually goes into these awards this year.
If no changes were put in place and the voters aren't willing to either abstain from voting if their clueless about a division, position or coach or unless they are willing to put some work into making their choices than I would only expect more of the same flawed results that we saw last year. |

Got rid of all the crap from this thread...
I would give huge props to all coaches of course, but as from a fan in the stands over the past few years...Defiantly going with MSU or Iowa on the way they have came in and stepped up the programs. |

It is easy to coach a team with a ton of talent. Just because you win does not mean you know how to coach.
Shouldn't the coach of the year be judged on exceeding expectations with limited resources? With that said, any of the coaches of organizations 2nd teams, SIU-e, MSU, Iowa, and ISU should be considered. If you have ever been involved with 2nd teams you know what I mean. Also, the Wheaton and Iowa coaches must have done a phenomenal job keeping their teams together during rough seasons. | |
