Billikens Place Third During First Year in the MACHA

The St. Louis Billikens hockey club finished the 2008-2009 season in a respectable third place in its first year as a part of the MACHA Gold league. Thanks to all who helped make Billikens hockey a sucess this season.

(The above web release is from the, not-so-acurate SLU web marketers. With the MACHA playoffs being a week away and their team not being eligible for playoffs for a first season back in the league as a probationary measure the Billikens just decide to go ahead and claim third place?? How about a little truth in advertising here? Just explain the situation and perhaps everyone would give your team credit. As you have it, you discredit your team and the team who will finish third in the GOLD division later this week. Here, I'll give you an example.)

Billikens Finish Strong

After moving to Division 2 of the ACHA, the Saint Louis Billikens put together a very respectable 11-19-1 season. This year the Bills saw action in a split schedule scenario with numerous opponents being from the Division 1 side of the ACHA. After petitioning for membership in the very competitive MACHA, a mid-west collegiate hockey league made of of regional D2 institutions, SLU finished third during the regular season with an 11-8-1 record. Due to first season probationary standards Saint Louis is not eligible for post season play. Thanks to all who helped make Billikens hockey a sucess this season.

(See at least I was able to use one line from your web release, lol. Keep it real.)

They honored their commitments and were competitive with everyone they played in MACHA. Not sure how you ask for much more from a team entering your league. For an organization that essentially blew itself up and started over I think their year was commendable and no I don't know anyone involved with the SLU organization.

To the original poster....

They DID finish in third place in MACHA Gold for 2008 - 2009. Not really sure why that is a problem.

Because, as discussed in previous posts, teams at this level need to bring more truth into their presentation. You can't always win so when you don't simply present the truth in your program and build. You don't build a solid program in mis-truths.

Nice job SLU. We need more teams like yours in MACHA Gold.

3rd Place in the REGULAR SEASON, that's acurate. Not 3rd Place in the GOLD Division. You won't know the 3rd Place team until after playoffs, that's the way it generally works, right?

this thread is retarded...just seems like someone finding another way to bash SLU. They had a very solid, respectable year especially after what happened last year and how the program was blown up.

SLU did finish in third...thats it

As for what you suggested be on the website...Why dont other teams say we beat a depleted team that was missing a few key players but won anyway. I mean that would be the truth for cases in which this in fact happened(not saying anything about SLU itself but teams in general in which this was the case). There is nothing wrong with what SLU has on their website. If you think this is so then the winner of the playoffs should write that they won the playoffs to win the title but did so not against the top teams through the regular season.

Exactly the point, "big fish in a little pond" syndrom. I'm glad that you see the light.
