Ouch! Bear's lose two of their best d-men to graduation at the semester and another 3 players. WSR what are your thoughts on how this will impact the Bear's.

I think the stick will be there for posterity. So, is 67 shots a season high for the team?
To 9:17am post,
Lack of defense will hurt the Ice Bears from the standpoint of numbers. The remaining players are capable of playing just as well as their counterparts who have left. Mitch Leonard will drop back to D and he has a mean shot. Only time will tell.
The MACHA post season is assured, but the ACHA post season is going to be a tough, but not completely out of reach scenario.

WSR - regarding the loss of D-Men. I think your reply is either PC in that you don't want to come off as making excuses or misguided. Pretty sure your not going to replace their minutes with like minutes. Baker has been an anchor for 4.5 years and Shah has been one of the top two D for the last 3.5 years. This has to hurt the Bear's a lot. Especially when you throw in that they lost their best defensemen from last year when Joe Combs didn't come back. That's a huge talent drain. Good luck.

Yeah teh Bears are headed down after the loss of these players - the D will never be the same. As a matter of fact, there's a lot of grumbling on the team about everything. IS this the beginning of the end?

Not sure about this being the beginning of the end but the organization is likely due for a makeover. I know their GM has poured his heart, soul and at least early on his own money into this organization. I'm sure like in any volunteer position your energy has to at least rachet down a little as you move forward. Especially when you consider as a volunteer you have to constantly listen to the complaints and address the problems. I'm not close to this program and don't know if this is part of the equation or not just know that in organizations I've been around the volunteer leadership has a shelf-life.
I know the coach being from St. Louis can't be a real positive situation either. Much is learned/taught in practice. I'm not diminishing his comittment at all. It is very admirable for him to give up what he does to coach the team but it's just not the best situation for a team to have a coach that can't be there. The problem is that Springfield is not exactly a place your going to find a lot of qualifed head coaching candidates.
I think Springfield has way too much going for it to not have a program. I just think that maybe some changes will be needed to create the excitement that seems to be missing right now. Curious as to how the Bear's attendance has been this year. A couple of years ago they were virtually selling every home game out. Is that still the case? If it is than this is much to do about nothing.

This forum has been created with the purpose to constructively discuss college club hockey. We encourage you to freely discuss any topic you wish, with the caveat that you keep the discourse within the bounds of good taste. While good natured trash-talking is fun, thought provoking and acceptable, any replies that turn personal, disrespectful and/or disruptive of the intent of this forum will be deleted by the moderators of this forum.
Our intent is to build up and promote college club hockey and its teams. We need to work together and support each other to make this happen. We already have enough critics of club hockey. Let's do our best to keep things amiable on this forum, as not to give them any ammunition.
Best of luck to ALL teams!
