Duane Rasure, Crackerjack Investigator

Now this is a REAL PRO.

He learns that RJ Wagner changed his story (LIED) about how that wine bottle "got" broken. Wagner told Rasure that it "broke during rough seas." But Wagner revealed in his book that he had broken it in a fit of anger.

The "crackerjack" detective apparently had NOT read Wagner's book; the 48 Hours folks had to read the excerpt to him. Hearing it for the first time, this was his response:

Duane Rasure: "Now that I've heard that...he's changed his story, I'm a little uncomfortable with it because at the time I believed him. I'm not gonna change my mind about what happened. ...His story still shows that she just accidentally drowned."

That last bit PROVES this man is a fool! If the broken wine bottle tale was a LIE, then the ENTIRE PICTURE has just CHANGED. But instead of saying, "Hmmmm.. This DOES alter the picture, and now I'm not so sure" this nitwit digs his heels in the dirt, stating "I'm not gonna change my mind about what happened."

REAL investigators are OPENMINDED and go wherever the EVIDENCE leads. This clown has his mind made up.

This guy MUST have been paid off.

Raure knew Wagner was lying back in 1981.

I love all of these armchair detectives who know better. LOL.

Well, they couldn't do worse than Rasure. He screwed up a very important case. Let him live with that.

I don't know that Rasure was paid, but can he really admit that maybe they messed up and didn't dig deeper?

Can't sure that anything untoward happened, but unfortunately in this litigious world we live in, covering up seems to have happened more often than admission of error.

Rasure did a fine job. There was no reason to dig any deeper.

Natalie died by accidentally falling into the water. 30 years is NOT going to change that fact.

Obviously the LASD does not agree. Maybe they know something that you do not.

The "crackerjack investigator" could not tell that the 3 men were lying to him or he didn't care.

Rasure is in the early stages of Alzheimer's. Its quite a shame, to see this happen to the renowned "Sherlock Holmes" of the Sheriff's homicide bureau.

Somebody needs to get the facts straight. Maybe everyone on this blog should do their own research before going against the detective that was ACTUALLY investigating the case at that time, not 30 years later. Find your own facts people. The media only targets the gullible less educated, sad to see so many people on this discussion are so ignorant. Truly sad.

P**py's at it again. Back and forth, same ol' sh!t. How many times can you mention Wagner lying about the bottle being broken in rough seas?

WTF difference does it make when he later owned up to breaking it? Then Davern lapped up what spilled on the floor.

Blah blah blah blah blah

blah blah blah blah

blah blah

Why doesn't anyone talk about why the 3 old men haven't been polygraphed?

What makes you think you'd know if anyone was polygraphed? The fact that you believe the public would know defines who you are.

Be sure to re-check on those Arabian horses that Duane Rasure came into shortly after his role in the investigation of Natalie's drowning. It was questionable at the time as RJ was known to be raising Arabians and Duane Rasure was not known to make the "big bucks" necessary for their purchase. Wonder where they came from....LOL

POLYGRAPH OR BOYCOTT

No score for this post
September 7 2012, 7:18 PM

My feelings exactly. If the sheriff's department cannot force Mr. Wagner and Mr. Walken to take a simple polygraph test, then the public should. If these two actors had two choices, either a polygraph or have their careers boycotted by their public. They would eventually do the polygraph or accept the boycott. This would undoubtedly prove their innocence or guilt. Both actors would choose the boycott. Neither would accept a polygraph. Problem being, the boycott would essentially prove their guilt. They would be willing to live in obscurity and live on their royalty's vs. the polygraph which would prove their guilt. So it would be guilty on the poly and guilty on the boycott. Either way, both have much to lose. Since Wagner has no conscience and who really knows about Mr. Walken. Why were none of the men checked for any corresponding marks, scrappings or bruises? Natalies nails were not checked for skin residue. Mr. Rasure was indeed careless at the least on his infamous investigation.

Natalie Wood died when Robert Wagner slid her battered body into the deep, dark, Pacific Ocean.
He killed her and you ALL know it.

You're wasting your time trying to convince yourself otherwise.

I met RJ briefly in 1985 when he was filming the TV series Lime Street in Middleburg, VA. I was 5'3'' and told many times I resembled Natalie... a lot. To make a long story short, he asked me about whether we had horses on our place in Great Falls and I answered honestly "NO'but definitely sensed if I had answered otherwise there could have been further contact. He had just been with Jill at the Red Fox Tavern the week before... Then no one had really analyzed his inconsistent stories about Natalie's death but his charm was wearing thin for me even then. Something never added up ! I remembered later about Duane Rasurė and how his interest in horses must have come in handy for RJ. It struck a memory in me at the time I read about it !! Ever since Nov. 1981, RJ has lost his allure for me and millions of other former fans.

I met Robert Wagner and Natalie Wood on Catalina Island and he was the nicest guy. Very personable. There is no way that guy would ever have raised a hand or hurt her in any way. Like the other poster said, that is why the police have never found one piece of evidence that points to Robert Wagner.

The thought that Robert Wagner would not have helped his wife had she fallen into the water or that he threw her into the water, is just like the nuts who say that we never landed on the moon. These people are out of their minds.

"...he threw her into the water..."

No no, he didn't THROW her into the water, he gently lowered her into the water from the stern area of the boat after he manhandled and bruised her. Then he made sure NOBODY searched for her.

Funny comment about the moon landing...inso much as it happened on Natalie's birthday in 1970.

When I met RJ in Middleburg, VA, he was ALSO very personable....charming, handsome, acting like he had not a care in the world.....that meant nothing as to whether he was culpable in Natalie's tragic drowning. As the country song goes, " No one knows what goes on behind closed doors." but in THIS case Dennis DID know.....

What other incentives such as Arabian horses were meted out to him during the years of his so-called wonderful career as a detective ? Good idea to look at the whole picture as it is not usually a one-time thing, though not everyone is in a position to make horses available as RJ was !!
