advice and suggestions about bean selection

I am new to the whole bean / grind your own coffee trend. Not that I could ever stomach instant coffee, but I always have been a Maxwell house regular blend kind-of-a-guy.

I have lived in New Orleans and traveled worldwide, so I have had many different kinds of coffee (unknowingly) and still prefer a mild brew, such as Maxwell house. I drink my coffee black, so the basic flavor of a coffee is important to me. (Yes, there is a question in here somewhere) Okay, what mild bean would you recommend? Any suggestions? Thanks!

Since you haven't found the joys of roasting your own coffee yet, a good mild coffee would be a Kona Extra Fancy, Papa New Guinea, Ethiopian Yigarcheffe, or a nice Salvador Santa Rita SHG, personal favorites for this season.

Mild coffees

Green Mountain Coffee, located in Vermont, favors lighter roasts popular in the eastern USA in their breakfast coffee blends. Also try their blend of Mocha Java. Its a classic. My wife loves that coffee. She likes milder coffees. The west coast coffee roasters tend to roast the coffee longer which makes the taste heavier.
