Shedding like crazy!!!

September 5 2005, 9:30 AM

I am soooo depressed! I have been shedding like crazy!! Today, I left a wad of hair in the shower. Then, when I combed it, I lost over 120 MORE hairs. This has been happening for over a month now. I don't know what the problem is. I can tell that my hair feels noticeable thinner. I don't know what to do!

Did a microtrim...

September 14 2005, 10:55 AM

I couldn't stand it any more. My dear husband was too chicken to even get near my hair with scissors; so I did it myself! I split my hair down the middle in the back. I put each ponytail up with a scrunchie. Then I pulled the scrunchie straight down towards the shoulder blade as far as it could go. Carefully, very carefully so as to not shift the hair, I pulled it over my shoulder to the front where I could see the ends and I snipped off any ragged edges. Maybe it is all psychological, but I think it looks better! I didn't cut off much at all. Just a teensy, weensy bit.

On another note, the shedding may be just a bit better, but I am still loosing a LOT of hair! The other night I combed and got about 40. Last night I showered, leaving a large amount in the drain. Then when I combed, I got another 90 hairs. I can't help but count. I keep telling myself that it looks worse than it is; and then I count to prove it. Sadly, it is as bad as it looks. I am fearful that something is wrong because I have other symptoms that point to hormonal, thyroid or some other systemic problem. Blah!

EEK!! My first grey hair has appeared!!!

September 26 2005, 12:36 PM

I was hoping to make it to 40 before they started showing up. But alas! That is not to be! I am still about 9 months from that age. Now I know why I have been shedding so much lately...making way for the greys to start coming in! WAAAAAH!

On the bright side of things, I reckon I have EARNED a few grey hairs! I hope I can bear them as beautifully and proudly as Liliana has.

Crocheted scrunchie patterns...

September 29 2005, 1:27 PM

I may have to try making these sometime

http://crochet.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fjpfun.com%2Fpatterns%2F09scrunchies%2Fspringscrunch.shtml

http://crochet.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.geocities.com%2FHeartland%2FHills%2F7511%2Fponyscrh.html

Just in case the links don't work, here is the instructions for the 2nd one which I think I would like better:

I created this scrunchie for my daughter Noelle. It's kind of lacy with the pony beads on the ends of points. The nice thing about making these with the cotton, is that my daughter frequently leaves for school with her hair still damp. The cotton dries quickly and doesn't get stuck in the hair the same way the normal yarn (acryllic) does.--MS
MATERIAL:
Sugar & Cream cotton (worsted weight)
9 pony beads
1 large ponytail holder (the covered elastic kind)
Aluminium E crochet hook

DIRECTIONS:
Rnd 1: Make 36 sc around large elastic, sl st to join *chain 3 add bead (slip bead on hook yo pull through bead and loop yo pull through loop) sc in next 3 chains, sc in next sc and next 3 sc (total of 4)* repeat 8 more times.

Rnd 2: *Chain 6, sc in last chain before bead, chain 6, sc in 1st chain after bead, sc in sc at bottom of chain, ch 6, sc in 4 sc * repeat 8 more times. sl st in last sc. finish off and tuck in end.

Happy Crocheting!

And the first one's instructions:

Beaded Spring Scrunchie
Designed by Julie A. Bolduc

This beaded scrunchie is just the perfect finishing touch for a casual Springtime outfit. It would look great with a pair of jeans and a tee shirt.

Materials Needed:
130 assorted colors "E" Beads
Large Elastic Hair Band
Southmaid8 Cotton Yarn White
Size C aluminum Crochet Hook
Glue
Yarn Needle
Gauge 6sc="1""
Finished Size 4" diameter
Skill Level Easy

String all beads on to yarn. You can make a "needle" out of the yarn. An easy way to do this is to apply glue to about 3" of the end and allow to dry. You may need to roll the thread on a piece of paper (like a snake) as it dries to smooth it out and to make the tip narrow.

Tie the yarn onto the elastic band.
Ch8, *pull up a bead, ch4, sl st in 8ch ch from hook. Ch4, Rep from * 4 times more but on the last one, slst in first st as first slst instead of ch4. Ch4, sc in elastic band. "Arm" Made. Repeat from Beginning until all beads are used up. You should end up with 26 "Arms" Join with a slst to first ch on the first "Arm".

NOTE: You may need to work with the stitches on the elastic to make them go all the way around the elastic. When I was done making the scrunchie, I had about 3/4" of elastic left when I ran out of beads, so I just spread the stitches out abit and did some shaking of the scrunchie to try to even out the stitches. You may need to do the same thing. It worked quite well.

Weaving: To weave the ends into the work. Use yarn needle and weave the ends into one of the "arms" out toward the end ofthe "arm" then back toward the middle. Work on the back side of the "Arm". Then work the yarn back through the stitches the other way to secure. Besure to try to pierce the threads of the yarn everyonce in a while.
