Hi Paul. We all tank you for the fantastic insight you have about lighting. We are redoing the kitchen and adding a vaulted ceiling great room next to the kitchen..I have a few questions:

1. Kitchen. We do not have wall cabinets going up, just one above the refer. Where is the optimal placement task lighting fixtures in realation to the edge of the countertop?

2. Kitchen. The new island is 52" wide and 9 feet long. What is the best combination of lighting? We will not have any cabinets over the island. Can we use the low voltage halogen or xeon fixtures, little ones that are like 2-3 inches in diamater? THese will all be on the same switch with a dimmer.

3. Great room task lighting. I like the wire suspended lighting. Is this effective? What is the cone of light produced by the xeon or halogen fixtures assuming 8 foot fixture height? Is Alfa Lighting that Expo carries good value?

4. For ambient lighting in the great room, can we indirectly light the white vaulted ceiling from 3 or 4 locations? Will that produce enough light? what kind of fixtures to use if this can work?

5. The great room is 16 wide and 25 long. Peak of the ceiling is 15 feet, pitch of roof is 5/12.

6. Can we get away with using the same fixtures for accent lighting around the great room, task lighting and ambient lighting in the kitchen? The flush mount low profile low voltage ones?

7. Great room accent lighting. We have two corners, above the fire place, nook area, i would like to use the same fixtures as the island ones.

Any advice or guidance will be greatly appreciated.
