Hello,

I have a small powder room that is 3x6 feet in size. I would like to replace the light over the mirror with recessed lights so that i can place a really elaborate mirror on that wall with out trying to find a light to match it.

Can you tell me how many cans I should place in this small space and what size.

Hi Charlene,

     I don't normally recommend only recessed lighting in a bathroom. The reason being if someone is trying to put on makeup or shave in the mirror there are going to be shadows on your face. The best situation if possible is recessed lights and wall sconces. Since this is a powder room and perhaps doesn't get that kind of use, recessed lights may be fine. Two 5" cans is probably all you need. It's hard to do more because you will crowd the ceiling. Hope this helps.

Thanks for your response. You are right, this is just a powder room so there would not be that much activity. My question is,

given the dimensions of this room : 3 x 6 how exactly would I space these 5" cans.

    I would go in the center of the 3 feet, so 18" off the wall. Then 24" off each end on the 6 feet. Let me know if that doesn't make sense.
