I am remodeling a part of my basement and making a "man room", pool table etc. and am putting in a window (large sash) approx 5' x 5'. There is a full wood studded wall inside the concrete wall and there is very little natural lighting in the room but for a small basement hopper type window. I am going to have a picture of some sort to look at through the window, to give the impression that youre in a bar in some city. I would like to make the picture look as real as possible with some kind of lighting. The space is very limited so I'm not sure if rope lighting or tiny flourecent tubes would do. What thoughts would anyone have to make this look as natural as possible. thanks, Rick

Lighting false window

I recently had to light two antique stained glass windows in a similar situation. One thing I discovered was I needed an opaque piece of plexiglass between the light and the window. Without it the light was spotty and visible. As far as what type of light, rope light will work but it is not very bright. Fluorescents are fairly bright and cool which is an important consideration in a closed enviorment. LED is another option but it could get a bit pricey.
