help!!!!

what my problem is that i took a ceiling fan down and didnt realize there where a black wire a white wire and a red and a bare cooper.it sparked of course but my problem now is that i cant seem to get my new light to work,when i hook it up to the black and white wire it stays on even when i turn the switch off.i checked the wires at the wall switch and they are the black and red ones i tried hooking those up to the light but nothing.what can i do to get this light to work with the switch?please help me.send any info to tomkelley80926@msn.com

Hi Tom,

    I'll answer here and drop you an email. It sounds like you have both a constant feed and a switch leg there. Normally the Red wire would be the switch leg so connecting the black wire from the fan to the red wire in the box and connecting white to white should get you fan to be controlled from the switch. You can cap the black wire off with a wirenut. If you have a fan with a light you could do something a little different but I don't want to confuse this.
