My take on Event Horizon is that it had some scary parts, but the rest of the movie wasn't very good. A scary movie has to be well-structured so that it can engage the audience first and foremost, then , when the audience is engaged....wham! They hit you with the scary stuff.
Event Horizon never did this. The first of the movie was actually quite good, but then it just turned into a senseless gorefest. That's another thing that the great horror flicks do. They don't over-expose you to the creature or whatever it is that is scary.
The greatest fear comes from what we concoct in our own minds not what we see!
