I'm always surprised in discussions like this when NO movies by Italian director Dario Argento make the list (yes, he's father to actress Asia, who was in one of his films: Trauma in 1993). Suspiria (1977), anyone?? Haunted dance school, evil ancient witches--SO creepy! Here's its tagline (from imdb.com): "The Only Thing More Terrifying Than The Last 12 Minutes Of This Film Are The First 92." It still gives me chills to this day. All his stuff is great--lots of gore in some of them, and definite fright in ALL of them! Tenebre (1982) is really good, too. He's been making movies since the late 60s and is still at it--though most are in Italian with English subtitles (some have been dubbed in English). He hasn't been called the Italian Hitchcock for nothing! If you're into really good horror, check him out. |
