Hey Oregon has come out with a carving bar but they are not manufacturing it they are just rebranding a Sugihara bar from Japan, so dont be fooled that you are getting a genuine Oregon bar!
Also have you noticed how well Stihl chain cuts compared to Oregons? I have been using Stihl quarter pitch and find that it seems harder and stays sharper longer.
Anyway just my 2 cents.

Oregon bars

July 29 2009, 10:03 PM

Howdy Dave,
I've been running/testing carving bars for Oregon for the past year now. The bars are manufactured by Sugihara but are to Oregon's specifications. They will be offered in two lenghts only. 12" and 14" in both dime and quarter tip. Only issue is that I havent't been able to convince them that an extra inch of stellite would greatly enhance the value and usability of the bar... I suppose that they may offer different sizes as the economy bounces (sloshes) back.
Many of Oregon's bars are made overseas incidentally.
See ya.
Bob

Are the Oregon carving bars available yet? Prices?

Any idea if the US Sugihara rep will also be selling them?

An oregon rep and Gregg at Baileys told me the oregeon sculptors are not made by sugihara.

I've heard it both ways now....I think Bob would know if he's been running them or maybe it's still a secret.

Time will sort it out.
