Is another one we should all pay attention to. I have been on the wood working illustrated board as well, and I was kind of shocked by the tests they ran there, and the results. It is some good info for us all to check out, especially for those who carve live shows for crowds of people.
Carbon monoxide poisoning causes fatigue, groginess, delirium, or even hallucinations, in some cases. What do you think it may have to do with cutting your arm off? It certainly can't help. For some one so skilled at carving, do you really need to ask like that RL?
Thanks for the tip MW. I think it has been an issue here in my carport. I guess I'll keep a fan on low at least. I'm sure it can be accumlative over time.
Hot air rises..if you carve under any kind of roof have a vent in the peak and a way for fresh air to enter down low. The hot air will pull the fresh air in as it rises. Think of the smoke exiting a Teepee..
Even open sided tops need a way for the gasses to escape the peak or they will accumulate pushing them down into your breathing space.
some of the fighting and accidents and servicing other mens wifes could be linked to our two stroke gas oil emissions. i have noticed my eyes burning sometimes i figure the saw is running rich it could be the atmosphere holding the exhaust down during overcast days.and over time a cumulative effect that might be irreversible , my brother paints million dollar plus houses for a living i truly think the paint fumes have damaged him.
Even under an open air tent, or port with vents, carbon monoxide does not rise. Gases sink, fumes rise. Most gases, sans hellium, and the like settle, or stay at the level they are exhausted at. THe vents will only work if you have directed air flow to puah the gases out. Other wise they stay in the room with you, that's partly why carbon monoxide is so dangerous, it's a heavy gas, it stifles oxygen. moving air will help break up the gas,and thin out it's affects, but the use of electric, or hydraulic saws, with canola oil for your bar and chain oil is the safest bet. Price of a $200 electric saw, and a little extra maintenence( canola oil builds up faster), verusus emphazima for life.... I only use gas saws under open tent, or open air, the only shop I had that was suitable for minimal gas saw use was 20'x15'x12', and some days even with the vents open, and the doors open at each end, it got pretty cloudy in there.
