I have always been led to believe that Vespas are more reliable than Lambrettas. However I have to compare my SX, which I bought this year and just rode around on to my two previous scooters, which were both Vespas and required two hours in the garage for one on the road.

My next scooter will be a Jet 200 or VW Beetle.

What do you all think? Is this the fickle finger of luck? Or is the Vespa propaganda better?

My answer for you Adi is if you look after you engine then any scooter is going to be reliable.I prefer vespas as i dont like the lower riding height of the lambrettas or the skinny size however i would have a lambretta Li series 2 as they are big so if anyones got one for £100 ill have it or possible part exchange on my JAP BIKE

Have to say i agree, depends on how the machine was put together, and then looked after, both should give the same level of service, I think the vespa reliability thing started in the 80s when scooter boys all started buying new vespas, that would obviously be more reliable than a 20 odd year old machine that had had little or no expert maintenance.As well as some preposterous modifications to boot. You should also consider that the guys that "maintained " scooters then now have 20 years experience to draw on.

despite my last 2 scoots being GP200s, and having owned at least 15 Vespas/Lambrettas over the years, I can categorically confirm that Vespas are more reliable

Your know exactly what I mean Work is a bit dodgy so I amy need a car thats cheap to maintain on the dole. I thnk of VWs like scooters, they are air cooled after all.
