How does it affect your periods and moods and most importantly, sometimes your sex drive??? I have yet to find it in my local drug stores. Has anyone taken it with SP or nettles??? Any input or experiences would be greatLadies!!! Lets keep this forum rolling in a informative direction!!! We are here for NBE and support,, lets get to it ,, lol shall we???

Hiya Snowflake :-)

You do know that it is also called agnus castus or chasteberry? Course you do.

Ok, am into 2nd month of vitex. So far it has cleared up my skin, eased off period cramps and PMS, made my hair curly again.......woo hoo! Yeah, for some odd reason, the other herbs had killed my hair and turned it into a frizzy mess but since using the vitex, it has gone back to proper healthy looking curls again.

Other good point is my booby tops are filling out too. Maybe it's just luteal swelling just now but am quite puffed out up there ;-D teehee! Long may it continue.

Feeling less moody and more energetic too.

Am taking it with nettle tea but that probably doesn't count the same as the root does.

Am impressed so far!

Love

=^_^= x

Ya,,I know for some reason this herb has like 3 names,, but got the heads up from a special girl,, that the bottle has to say VITEX on it or its not the right Angus Cactus,,, Chaste berry. Glad your having good results and will persue my search. Also the nettles will be helping things along, I would imagine,, like saw palmetto would.

Och aye the noo lassie........lol!

Ok, just wikipedia'd vitex and it says -

Vitex is a genus of about 250 species of shrubs and trees from 1-35 m tall, native to tropical, subtropical and also warm temperate regions throughout the world. In the past widely included in the family Verbenaceae, it has recently been transferred to the family Lamiaceae (Labiatae).

Species with Wiki articles are:

Vitex agnus-castus (Chaste tree, Chasteberry or Monk's Pepper. Indigenous to the Mediterranean region.

Vitex lucens known as Puriri. Endemic to New Zealand.
Retrieved from "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitex"

************************************************************************

So what your friend probably means is to use the Vitex agnus-castus and NOT the Vitex lucens known as Puriri, which is an altogether different thing.

Hold on...............just linked to some more wiki info -

Genus: Vitex

Species: V. agnus-castus

Vitex agnus-castus (commonly called just Vitex but also called Chaste Tree, Chasteberry or Monk's Pepper) is a native of the Mediterranean region. Refer to Vitex for other species in the genus.

Cultivation and uses
Vitex agnus-castus is widely cultivated in warm temperate and subtropical regions for its aromatic foliage and flowers. It grows to a height between 1-5 metres. It requires full sun or partial shade along with well-drained soil.

It is sometimes used for the treatment of PMS. It is believed to be an anaphrodisiac, hence the name "chaste tree", and is used as a medicinal plant by many herbalists. The parts used include the chaste tree's leaves, flowers, and berries. The berries are considered a tonic herb for both the male and female reproductive systems. The leaves have the same effect, but to a somewhat lesser degree. It is used in some supplements for male bodybuilders as a secondary component, as some studies suggested that it may decrease the prolactin levels, which, in turn, may increase LH (luteinizing hormone); increased LH triggers an increase in the testosterone levels which is beneficial for increasing muscular mass and strength.[citation needed] It probably does not have the same effect on the female metabolism.

The leaves and tender stem growth of the upper 10 cm (4 inches), along with the flowers and ripening seeds, may be harvested for medicinal purposes. The berries are harvested by gently rubbing the berries loose from the stem. The leaves, flowers, and/or berries may be consumed as a decotion, traditional tincture, cider vinegar tincture, syrup, elixir, or simply eaten straight off the plant as a medicinal food.

I'd say that all of us who are using it by the vitex or AC name are on the right track. Not trying to be picky, but it does seem to be the same stuff.

I have been taking Vitex for about 2 months now. I don't know if it is helping with NBE or not, but it is definitely helping with my PMS! As for sex drive, I am not sure if it is having an effect, positive or negative.

I took agnus castus for about four months when I first went on single herbs. I took Fenugreek and SP along side it and I didn't really find that it helped my skin, although I think I didn't have bad period cramps during that time. It was a year ago so I am really not sure. I grew quite well during that time but was on high doses of Fenugreek and SP as well, just starting out and didn't really have a clue then. When I started again without the AC after two months break or so on lower doses I still grew fine then so I can't say it made much of a difference to me but it is just so hard to tell when you are taking other things with it.

Re: I would reallylike to hear about VITEX

I began taking Vitex in August. 400 mg three times a day. My first period after, I did not notice a difference. The second period was a bit better, in terms of lesser cramps, but just barely. My periods after were so much better. Less cramping, lighter bleeding, little breast tenderness, and my acne is less severe. I am surprised at how pretty my skin can be, now that I have less red spots and scabs. My PMS was very bad, up the point where I would fear passing out from the pain. Having vitex has helped me so much. I buy my vitex off eBay. I purchased two bottles for under $20.00, S&H included. Each bottle has 100 capsules with 400 mg.

In terms of NBE, I began noticing a difference in late October, after I cut out taking fenugreek and fennel when I realized the excess estrogen would be counteracting the effects of progesterone produced. I suspect that I am estrogen dominant during my periods, but to an unusually larger amount that an average woman would possess. Anyway, after stopping those two herbs, I saw an increase in fullness.

Concerning sex drive, I have noticed no difference. Furthermore, I remember reading on a website that Vitex, or chasteberries, actually do not lower sex drives like the ancients believed. I just don't know how the site came to this conclusion because no studies or further information was cited.

No offence taken hun. Heh heh, am still killing myself with the Angus Cactus mind pic too..........hahahaa!!

Moonkissed - what you say is very interesting. Am just about to start the 5th month of WU but was thinking that I should maybe let it ride for a bit and rendez-vous alone with Angus for a while.....hee hee. To be honest, am not impressed with WU so far. Wonderup has been more of a wonderdown for me so far and I was doing real good before starting it. Will keep you posted.

Re: I would reallylike to hear about VITEX

Faerycat- if you do not see any results with Wonderup, then maybe you already have enough estrogen in your body. I believe the main key to breast enlargement is a balance between estrogen and progesterone. Too much or too little of either one will stall a person's growth. I believe this is one of the main reasons why some women see large growth on programs such as Wonderup, and others see little to none. The problem is that without blood work and such, it is otherwise difficult (although not impossible) to determine which hormones are needed.

For me, it was a risk eliminating all other herbs and solely relying on Vitex, as it would mean a loss of time if Vitex did not work. However, I was frustrated because I was seeing only some temporary swelling with my other herbs, and thought I had nothing to lose. After my first bottle ended (I'm on my second now), I felt secure enough to take the risk of buying two more bottles for long-term use, if only for my PMS.

Thanks for that Moonkissed :-) I think I will leave out the WU for a bit and see what happens with the Vitex by itself.

Like you my skin is looking so much better and period cramps have eased off. Not bleeding as heavily or for as long as I used to.

It will be a risk, but we have time on our side and can always go back and start again if the vitex fails.

I'm on vitex (200mg extract = 1000mg herb, twice daily) but it's still early to tell if it's affecting my progress. I'm inclined to say it's helping because by coincidence or not my boobs do seem to have suffered a small growth spurt, and I have been feeling more pains since strated taking it. However, I don't know if it's perhaps just a coincidence since i'm on it for, like, just a bit more than one week.
