That is certainly NOT accurate. If you had kids and used a glass thermometer you would have known this,, but its OK. Anyway the only accurate reading is orally or by rectum. I know you don't want to do the rectum temp. If you take temp under the arm, you must add 1 degree to your reading,,, which would put you at about 98.6,,, what you are suppose to be. There are many other signs of poor circulation than just feeling cold,, and having cold extremities could totally mean something else. Low in iron for one,
Lack of Stamina, tingling, burning, numbness of feet and hands,, blue or purple or very pale skin, irrgular heart beat, low energy, shortness of breath, sluggish memory, low blood pressure. If this is the case,,,B comlex twice daily is recommended,, also calcium supplement or MSM+C.

Just wanted to let you know, that you are correct in stating that when you take an axillary temp (under the arm) you need to add 1 degree. Use a mercury thermometer when using this method, and hold it for at least 5 min's. Rectal is most accurate and the only one used in the ER when hypothermia is an issue. Oral is second, and don't consume ANY liquid (hot or cold)within 10 min's of taking temp.

I used a digital thermometer so do I still have to add one degree?
If so, then i'd be at 98.2. Being that temperature is it ok? I guess it wouldn't hurt to take cayenne though right? I'll take just one dose of it daily (400 mg, I believe). And it could be that I'm low in iron yes. So as you stated it might not be a circulation problem. I do remember the last blood test I had, the doctor told me I was a bit low in iron. Thanks for your help.

I don't think poor blood circulation would affect body temperature, because it mostly affects peripheral tissues, while body temperature refers to the temperature in the central system. Also we know that temperature is not the same in all parts of the body. I have a sluggish blood circulation and my body temperature is normal. I was also anemic a while ago and am inclined to have low iron, so I take B complex with iron, this however has not improved my circulation.

The most accurate temperature reading is rectally and with a mercury thermometer. Seeing as I don't really care to take my temperature that way, I use a digital one under arm and add a degree. My sis who is a nurse says its fine that way you just need to let any medical personel know how you took your temp so they can make any adjustments if treatment is necessary. But thats neither her nor there *wink*
And I would say yes, your temp falls in the normal range. My temp is never where the average temp is, but thats because its an average. There are people whose temps run lower and whose temps run higher.
For the iron, you could always start taking an iron pill, or a multi vitamin that has iron in it. BUT that isn't always the solution, and I wouldn't recommended starting anything with iron, unless you know you have the deficiancy. ~ the only way you are going to figure out about being cold, is to take one thing at a time for it, and give it time to work, and then move on to something else if it doesn't hey there are always layers!!!!

Thanks for the replies. I am a bit deficient in iron. With my fourth pregnancy the doctor did ask me to take more iron. And I'm pretty sure I still am a bit deficient, but not anemic that's for sure. It's just with 5 pregnancies and nursing that takes a lot of iron out of my body which is what the doctor suggested was the probable cause. Anyhow, I will be taking the normal dose of iron and adding a bit of cayenne just for overall health.

Hello Organic Angel,
Yes I do like it. Actually I drink it when I take my superfood supplement. But I will try to add iron rich foods to my diet as well. Thanks for the tip.

Hey Just wanted to remind everyone, that the more iron you take in, the harder it can be to get it out *wink* If there is a deficiancy such as anemia, there is this awful tasting stuff that works the same as iron, but its more natural, and doesn't cause you to bind or have other reactions. Let me know if anyone is interested in that and I'll go find the name. It can be gotten at health food stores.

Vitamin C enhances iron absorption. It is very effective. About 500 - 2000 mg per day can boost your iron without the 'binding' effect of taking iron supplements. My neice followed this advice while she was anemic during her pregnancy and it solved the problem.
Vitamin C is also a precursor of collagen and an important agent for NBE. Everyone is different in how much their body needs, but it is non-toxic even at very high dosages. Linus Pauling studied this vitamin extensively and his writings are very interesting on this subject. I have taken very large amounts for weeks at a time and suffered no ill effects. It really helped with my sinuses and I would still be on the megadoses if it wasn't such a bother to ingest that much. The only thing you need to know about vitamin C is that when your body has reached its limit on how much you can absorb your bowel movements will get loose. If that happens, cut back the amount by about 500 mg and you will be taking your ideal dose.
