I've been getting some intestinal pains. Is it the herbs?

For the last two days my intestines have been hurting slightly and I'm not sure if this is due to the herbs or something else. I've been taking fenugreek, wild yam, saw palmetto, and gingko biloba for four days now. Do you guys think that it's the herbs doing this? I was thinking that maybe I should lower my doses (although I don't think my doses are that high), but since I just started my routine I don't want to already start altering this too much.

I can think of two things that could be causing the problem - maybe you don't have a healthy intestinal flora and therefore your intestine is having problems digesting the herbs. Eat at least one probiotic yougurt every day and see if it passes. Another, I think less likely, is that you produce too little digestive enzymes. There are supplements that help with that. Try youghurt for a couple of days and if it doesn't work, you could try an enzyme supplement. You could also go off herbs to confirm if they were actually causing the pains.

not really THAT related

something is cramping your style (literally). i agree... take a yogurt a day and maybe up the fiber intake. just because you have a good metabolism and even if you are regular doesnt mean that something isnt getting caught in the digestive tract. sometimes things get caught in the nooks and crannies in there and need a little extra help, and it could be the herbs, it could be the pill casings, it could just be the corn you had for dinner a few nights ago.

give it a shot... digestion can be funny...

Yeah, that's the only explanation I can think of. Also digestion is a completely different matter from metabolism.

It could be constapation, if its that then try to drink a little more to help push out any blockages. I'd also give the yoghurts a try. Maybe it could be your peroid? Just a thought...

No, it's not constipation--I actually use the bathroom a little too much. And Moon, digesttion is directly related to metabolism. If you have bad disgestion, you have bad metabolism. It's a basic fact, that I know.

My pains have pretty much gone away, so thanks fo the info guys. I guess it must've been something else.

I'm not saying digestion is not related to metabolism, procesess in the body are in general tightly related, what I ment was that digestion and metabolism can't be equalized or summarized to that extent. Digestion refers to the breakdown of macromolecules from food to their basic building blocks in the digestive tract with the help of digestive enzymes, while metabolism comprises all chemical processes that happen in all cells of the body. The claim that if you have poor digestion, you have a poor metabolism is a rather inaccurate generalization, as metabolism is a too broad concept. Poor digestion influences metabolism by redirecting its pathways, by stimulating one pathway and repressing another, caused by the disposition of fuels, but it doesn't influence its overall efficiency.

If you were going a little too kuch than you've had something thats irritated the lining of your digerstive system. It is normal to have cramps along side that, if the cramps are still there go and see a doctor, if they have passed then keep up your fluid for a few days and take it easy and you should be fine
