A possible cause of bloatingJanuary 8 2007 at 10:19 AM | Katie (Login Katie81) |
| I read in a pregnancy magazine that increased progestorone levels during pregnency reduces the contraction of the smooth muscle within the intestines (peristalsis) and as a consequence food movement tends to slow down. This means that bacteria in the gut can work on the food for longer and tend to produce more gas causing bloating.
I was thinking, if people are taking progestrogenic herbs, this could be one of the factors causing bloating?? The article suggested chewing food more thoroughly and eating more smaller meals throughout the day (eg 5/6 meals) instead of 3 large meals. Suppose it wouldn't hurt to try if you are suffering.
Just a thought!

I have often thought and said that my body has responded to NBE as it did to pregnancy, so this makes sense to me. Thanks Katie. |

not personally, but for a friend of mine who has been having super huge problems with her food slowing down... maybe she just needs a hormone check!!
she has been trying to figure this out for a YEAR what is wrong with her... maybe it is progesterone overload?!!!
thank you so much for the research! |
