Just wanted to let you know that bb says our temp can stay at 98.1-98.6 in order for the pills to be 100% effective...at least that's what their instruction sheet did say before. And also, mine usually stays up at around 98.2...very rarely does it go up much higher (even with tyrosine/kelp) Of course I don't check it all the time..normally just first thing in teh mornings which is usually around 97.6 or so, but under 98.1..after I take my tyrosine/kelp I wait about 1- 1 1/2 hours before taking my bb pills cause by then my temp is up to at least 98.1.
If you do start back on the bo...just maybe try taking your 1st dose in the afternoon when your temp is up more. Just a suggestion though. :)
Hey Michelle, it seems that not many people worry about their body temp. considering how many people have actually answered my post :-)
But I did take BB later in the afternoon about 2 months while on it because BB recommeneded that to me too. Still no results. I am starting to think that my lack of results may not have been from my low body temp after all, but maybe a hormonal imbalance, circulation problem, or adrenal problem. Wish I could narrow it down a little easier. Could have all three!
I am running out for an errand, and am stopping at Walgreens to pick up a thermometer on my way back. I have wondered about my temperature, but haven't had a thermometer in several years since my son is grown. I probably need to start watching it though.
I take 500 mg of L-Tyrosine twice a day, and get about an additional 800-1000 mg of it a day in my protein shake. I also take one 500 mg kelp a day. I was just hoping that did what was needed for my temp if I had a problem - but I really need to start checking it. I want this stuff to be 100% effective.
Michelle, do you know how much L-T and kelp is ok to take in a day? My bottle of Kelp says not to take it for an extended time, which kinda scared me. Thanks -- Sissy
Hey Katrina, I just thought that I would let you know that I have a low body temp. and everything seems to be working fine for me...it usually runs about 97...and usually about 99 or so when I have a fever...I do try to keep myself warm though...partially because I'm always kinda cold ;) I'm always wrapped up in a blankie sittin on couch with sweatpants on and I sleep under 3 or 4 blankies...so that might help...but anywho...hope is not lost :) good luck!
About the tyrosine and kelp..all I know is bb suggests to take 2000mg tyrosine a day and 400-500 Micrograms a day. They used to put in their instruction sheet to not go over 100 Milligrams of kelp a day...so I'm not really sure if the 500mg a day is okay...probably would be best to decrease your amount cause I do remember reading from researching that going over 2000Micrograms a day could be harmful..... I just went to a conversion table and it says 500mg converts to 500,000Milligrams so that's way over. That would maybe explain the warning on your bottle.
But, your tyrosine amount that you're getting a day is good though. :)
Now I really bummed. I finally took my temperature, and at 6pm tonight it was 97.1. I took it again an hour later and it was at 97.2. I wonder how low it was before taking the L-Tyrosine?? This may explain my weight gain over the last few years on only 1200 calories a day or lower. I normally don't feel cold or complain of being cold. It never dawned on me that I had a low-body temperature.
I have a new mission now, and it's to figure out a way to naturally raise it so BB will work better. I do have pains, and they are better the last few days taking 3 a day, but I can't help but feel like I have been wasting my time these last two months.
I just called BB and they told me to call back tomorrow when I could get more info.
It wasn't that I didn't listen when you all spoke about body temperature, it's just that I didn't think that I had a problem. It would have been worth the $4.99 investment in a thermometer I guess to know this sooner!
Michelle, BB didn't give me any info on the mg's of Kelp, just said "you will need to take L-T and Kelp". I'm glad you told me that, I don't know what it does, but am going to have to find a lower dose. Thanks for the info.
Katrina, thanks for the post, it finally got me thinking about my body temperature.
OMG I just took it again, and it's 96.6??? --Sissy
Sissy, please do not worry!! You said you have been getting pains and that is way better than what I got while on BB which is nada! So to me it sounds like a low body temp. is not the only thing that can stall growth. Low body temperature is sign of two things: a slow thyroid or exhausted adrenal glands. You could have one or both. They both can give you many of the same symptoms so it can be hard to distinguish. Look them both up on the internet to find the symptoms of both and which one you relate to more.
I got a tip from Fawn on this: if you tend to have more energy say around 4:00-6:00 p.m or you just have more energy later in the evenings than you do in the mornings and you tend to always fill fatiqued no matter how much sleep you get, then chances are you have impaired or exhausted adrenal glands. With thyroid problems, you tend to gain weight. Also with adrenal problems you blood pressure seems to always be low, which mine is.
The most important nutrient you can get for your thyroid is iodine. And table salt is not a good source of iodine, but natural sea salt and kelp is. I stopped taking L-tyrosine because it made me have dark blotchy spots on my face because it is responsible for the dark pigment in your skin when you tan. But if you take too much it can cause problems, but it will go away. It took mine 1 months but they are finally starting to go away and I am only 21 years old.
If you eat a lot of protein and drink a modest amount of milk, these both already have L-tyrosine in them so there is no need to add any if you already get enough from your diet.
Keep in mind that I talked to a woman who was on BB whose body temp. stayed around 97.3 and she gained 2 cup sizes! It just takes people with a low body temp a little longer than most, but they still can get results.
Thanks Katrina, I have never heard of problems with adrenal glands before, I will definately look into that now also.
You always hear about thyroid issues, and I have suspected that may be my problem only because of my fatigue and weight gain for no reason. I wake up tired, no matter how much sleep I have, and I just figured being a single mom with a stressful job was the reason.
I appreciate your help. I'll keep you posted on what I find out and if anything helps. I think I might try adding caynenne pepper to my diet and supplements. It's supposed to help too. Moon suggested it for circulation I think, but I read that it also helps with temp, which makes sense.
I'll see what BB has to say tomorrow also and let you know. -- Sissy
Also, if you really want to get to the root of the problem it is best to see an endocrinologist (long name) for this. Regular family doctors aren't really familiar with the issue of adrenal glands as they are thyroid glands. Endocrinologist can do a test to measure every gland in the body and how effeciently they are working where regular doctors usually on measure thyroid hormones and their tests are not as in depth.
Let me know what BB says about the adrenals. I don't know if they are farmiliar with this issue.
Hi Sissy,
I know how let down you must feel because of the temp problem. But don't give up! Honestly, I think it would be best to get your circulation flowing with what you said about cayenne pepper, (I add the cayenne pepper to 8 oz. of water a day). To me, that alone is much better than popping so many pills a day. I think it could do you more harm in the long run. Plus, your protein already contains some l-tyrosine.
Good luck on what you decide.
Hi Gin! This is so funny to me that you responded today. My bookmarked page to the forum happens to be your post of buying BB on Oct 6th. I think that is what led me here on my internet search back then. Just a moment ago I thought about it and realized that we I haven't heard much from you and wondered how BB is going for you, then I see that you posted. What a coincidence! Yea, last night I was really bummed, but then I realized that I have had progess and I just need to work on getting the temp up so that it will progress faster. Minor setback is all, and maybe a good thing to realize that I may have other problems I can fix.
I just bought some cayenne, so maybe I will try it in water like you suggested. It does not sound good, but I'll do it if it helps. How are you doing on BB?
Katrina, I probably do need to get that tested, and you are right that it's best to see a specialist. I'm going to make an appt, my doctor will have to run the test first anyway to go from there. I don't know if I am going to tell her about my NBE venture, she's pretty cool, but I just switched doctors and don't know her well yet. I think I will tell her I read about temp and thyroid and let her think that is my concern for now. Well, thanks for your input ladies! -- Sissy
